The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Pope Pius XII established this feast in 1954. But the Blessed Virgin queenship has roots in scripture. At the Annunciation, Gabriel announced that Mary’s Son would receive the throne of David and rule forever. At the Visitation, Elizabeth calls Mary mother of my Lord. In all the mysteries of Mary’s life, she is closely associated with Jesus: Her queenship is a share in Jesus’ kingship.
The feast is a logical follow-up to the Assumption, and is now celebrated on the octave of that feast. In his 1954 encyclical To the Queen of Heaven, Pius XII points out that Mary deserves the title because she is Mother of God, because she is closely associated as the New Eve with Jesus’ redemptive work, because of her preeminent perfection, and because of her intercessory power. Since Jesus is the King of Kings, and since He sits on His throne at the right hand of the Father in Heaven, and since his mother was assumed into Heaven, body and soul, then the logical conclusion flowing from these truths lead us to today’s feast.
The fourth century Saint Ephrem called Mary Lady and Queen. Later Church fathers and doctors continued to use the title. Hymns of the 11th to 13th centuries address Mary as queen: Hail, Holy Queen Hail, Queen of Heaven, Queen of Heaven. The Dominican rosary and the Franciscan crown as well as numerous invocations in Mary’s litany celebrate her queenship.
As Queen, Mother Mary not only intercedes on our behalf, she also acts as her son’s mediator. From her heavenly throne, the Queen Mother of Heaven and Earth is entrusted with the grace of God. She is not the source, but she is privileged to be the instrument of distribution. As a loving mother, nothing pleases her more than to lavish every good thing upon her children on earth. She longs to gather all of her children together in Heaven, with and in her divine Son.
As we honor the Queen of Heaven today, ponder the Church’s ever-deepening understanding of her role. As the Church has increased its comprehension of Mary’s exalted role through the centuries, so we must individually make this discovery throughout our lives. Turn to her, seek her prayers, rely upon her intercession, and honor her as your mother and your queen. She is our protectress, our refuge, our hope, and our sweet delight. Her affection is perfect and her motherly love unmatched.

A Student’s Prayer for a New School Year
Lord Jesus, I ask for Your help as I begin this new school year. Allow me to experience Your presence in the many blessings You put before me. Open my eyes to the new challenges and exciting opportunities that this new school year brings. Open my heart and mind to new friends and new teachers. Give me a generous spirit to be enthusiastic with my studies and courage to accept new opportunities. Help me to be attentive to my teachers and let me experience Your presence in my new friends.
Jesus, inspire me to do my best this year! Amen
A Back to School Prayer
Blessed are You, Lord God, Creator of body, mind, and heart. You have sent the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge to guide Your people in all their ways.
At the beginning of this new school we implore your mercy: bless our students, teachers, staff, and their families, that together we may grow in faith, hope, and love as we learn from you and each other how to follow your Son Jesus.
Expand the horizons of our minds, that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; deepen our commitment to seek the truth of your ways; and enliven our faith to reach out to those in need.
Glory and praise to you, Lord God, in the Church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever.

Pope Leo XIV Appoints new Bishop of Jefferson City
Pope Leo XIV has appointed Fr. Ralph O’Donnell, 55, as the fifth Bishop of Jefferson City. The appointment was publicized today in Washington, D.C., by Cardinal Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States.
Born in Omaha in 1969, Fr. O’Donnell was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Omaha in 1997. He currently serves as Pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish in Omaha.
His appointment comes approximately three months after the previous Bishop of Jefferson City, the Most Reverend Shawn McKnight, was installed as Archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki was elected to serve as Diocesan Administrator, and continues in that role until the installation of the new bishop.

MoScholars Application – Deadline is August 25!
News just landed in our inbox that makes quality Catholic education more attainable than ever before. We want as many of our St. Vincent de Paul families to consider this opportunity. Filling out the MOScholars application for just two minutes could mean over $6,000 awarded each year to each student for the duration of their education at Sacred Heart School.
The Missouri State Treasurer’s Office has decided to REOPEN MOSCHOLARS K-12 SCHOLARSHIP applications for the 2025-26 school year! This is primarily an excellent opportunity for students who weren’t able to complete the application in the first window, kindergarteners, first graders, older students coming from a public school, and students with public-school-issued IEP/ISPs. If you have families that fit one of those categories, we highly encourage you to share this news. School Cafeteria
We are blessed to have a school cafeteria that students can utilize every school day. We encourage your students to eat the school-provided lunch. Sacred Heart School has a CLOSED lunch hour, which means students are NOT allowed to bring in fast food or have fast food delivered to the school for lunch consumption. We provide a hot lunch for all students who request it daily. FACTS Family Portal is used to track all lunch charges and the overall balance for each student’s account.

It’s Time for a New Pictorial Directory – Sign-up to Have Your Picture Taken for a FREE 8×10
It’s not too late to sign-up to have your picture taken for our church pictorial directory! Universal Church Directory will be here August 27-30 and September 10-13 to take pictures. There are still 30 spots left to sign up, 4 in August and 26 in September. Don’t forget you’ll receive a FREE 8×10 just for having your picture taken! La Realeza de la Santísima Virgen María
El Papa Pío XII instituyó esta fiesta en 1954. Sin embargo, la realeza de la Santísima Virgen tiene sus raíces en las Sagradas Escrituras. En la Anunciación, Gabriel anunció que el Hijo de María recibiría el trono de David y reinaría para siempre. En la Visitación, Isabel llama a María Madre de mi Señor. En todos los misterios de la vida de María, está estrechamente asociada a Jesús: su realeza es una participación en la realeza de Jesús.
Esta fiesta es una continuación lógica de la Asunción, y ahora se celebra en la octava de dicha fiesta. En su encíclica de 1954, A la Reina del Cielo, Pío XII señala que María merece este título por ser Madre de Dios, por estar estrechamente asociada, como la Nueva Eva, a la obra redentora de Jesús, por su preeminente perfección y por su poder de intercesión. Puesto que Jesús es el Rey de reyes, y puesto que está sentado en su trono a la diestra del Padre en el Cielo, y puesto que su Madre fue asunta al Cielo en cuerpo y alma, entonces la conclusión lógica que fluye de estas verdades nos conduce a la fiesta de hoy.
En el siglo IV, San Efrén llamaba a María Señora y Reina. Posteriormente, los Padres y Doctores de la Iglesia continuaron usando el título. Los himnos de los siglos XI al XIII se dirigen a María como reina: Dios te salve, Reina Santa, Dios te salve, Reina del Cielo, Reina del Cielo. El rosario dominico y la corona franciscana, así como numerosas invocaciones en la letanía de María, celebran su realeza.
Como Reina, la Madre María no solo intercede por nosotros, sino que también actúa como mediadora de su hijo. Desde su trono celestial, la Reina Madre del Cielo y de la Tierra recibe la gracia de Dios. Ella no es la fuente, pero tiene el privilegio de ser el instrumento de distribución. Como madre amorosa, nada le complace más que colmar de todo bien a sus hijos en la tierra. Anhela reunir a todos sus hijos en el Cielo, con y en su divino Hijo.
Al honrar hoy a la Reina del Cielo, reflexionemos sobre la comprensión cada vez más profunda que la Iglesia tiene de su papel. Así como la Iglesia ha profundizado su comprensión del exaltado papel de María a lo largo de los siglos, también nosotros debemos descubrirlo a lo largo de nuestra vida. Acudan a ella, busquen sus oraciones, confíen en su intercesión y hónrenla como su madre y su reina. Ella es nuestra protectora, nuestro refugio, nuestra esperanza y nuestro dulce deleite. Su afecto es perfecto y su amor maternal, incomparable.

Oración de un estudiante para un nuevo año escolar
Señor Jesús, te pido tu ayuda al comenzar este nuevo año escolar. Permíteme experimentar tu presencia en las muchas bendiciones que me ofreces. Abre mis ojos a los nuevos desafíos y las emocionantes oportunidades que trae este nuevo año escolar. Abre mi corazón y mi mente a nuevos amigos y nuevos profesores. Dame un espíritu generoso para entusiasmarme con mis estudios y la valentía para aceptar nuevas oportunidades. Ayúdame a estar atento a mis profesores y permíteme experimentar tu presencia con mis nuevos amigos.
Jesús, ¡inspírame a dar lo mejor de mí este año! Amén.
Una oración para regreso de clases
Bendito seas, Señor Dios, Creador del cuerpo, la mente y el corazón. Has enviado el Espíritu de sabiduría y conocimiento para guiar a tu pueblo en todos sus caminos.
Al comenzar esta nueva escuela, imploramos tu misericordia: bendice a nuestros estudiantes, maestros, personal y sus familias, para que juntos crezcamos en la fe, la esperanza y el amor mientras aprendemos de ti y de los demás a seguir a tu Hijo Jesús.
Amplía los horizontes de nuestra mente para que crezcamos en sabiduría, comprensión y conocimiento; profundiza nuestro compromiso de buscar la verdad de tus caminos; y aviva nuestra fe para ayudar a los necesitados. Gloria y alabanza a ti, Señor Dios, en la Iglesia y en Cristo Jesús por los siglos de los siglos.

El Papa León XIV nombra nuevo obispo de Jefferson City
El Papa León XIV ha nombrado al Padre Ralph O’Donnell, de 55 años, quinto Obispo de Jefferson City. El nombramiento fue anunciado hoy en Washington, D.C., por el Cardenal Christophe Pierre, Nuncio Apostólico en Estados Unidos.
Nacido en Omaha en 1969, el Padre O’Donnell fue ordenado sacerdote de la Arquidiócesis de Omaha en 1997. Actualmente es párroco de la Parroquia de Santa Margarita María en Omaha.
Su nombramiento se produce aproximadamente tres meses después de que el anterior Obispo de Jefferson City, el Reverendísimo Shawn McKnight, asumiera el cargo de Arzobispo de Kansas City, Kansas. Monseñor Robert A. Kurwicki fue elegido Administrador Diocesano y continuará en ese cargo hasta la instalación del nuevo obispo.

MoScholars Application – Deadline is August 25!
Acabamos de recibir noticias que hacen que la educación Católica de calidad sea más accesible que nunca. Hemos trabajado durante todo el verano para actualizar nuestro Manual del Estudiante de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón. La esencia del manual se ha mantenido; sin embargo, busque estas adiciones y aclaraciones:

Procedimientos de entrega y recogida
Cafetería Escolar
Tenemos la suerte de contar con una cafetería escolar que los estudiantes pueden usar todos los días escolares. Animamos a sus estudiantes a disfrutar del almuerzo escolar. La Escuela Sagrado Corazon tiene un horario de lonche CERRADO, lo que significa que los estudiantes no pueden traer comida rápida ni pedir que se la lleven a la escuela para su consumo. Ofrecemos un almuerzo caliente a todos los estudiantes que lo soliciten diariamente. El Portal Familiar FACTS se utiliza para dar seguimiento a todos los cargos por almuerzo y al saldo total de la cuenta de cada estudiante.

Pautas de horas de servicio para estudiantes de 6º a 12º grado
Los estudiantes deben cumplir con las horas de servicio requeridas (25 para preparatoria y 10 para secundaria) para pasar su respectiva clase de religión. Las pautas de servicio se publican aquí.

La membresía del Club de Apoyo incluye la publicación del apellido en el Muro de Membresía del Club de Apoyo en el Gimnasio McGremlin Sagrado Corazón para el año escolar 2025-2026. La cuota será cobrado automáticamente a la cuenta FACTS del estudiante según lo siguiente:

¡Nuestra subasta es la recaudación de fondos más grande de nuestra parroquia! Es una gran oportunidad para participar, reencontrarse con amigos y conocer gente nueva. ¡Nuestro último Encuentro de Damas de San Vicente de Paúl fue todo un éxito! Todas las que asistieron la pasaron de maravilla, reencontrándose con viejas amigas de la parroquia y creando amistades con feligresas que conocieron esa noche. ¡Fue tan divertido que lo repetiremos! Las invitamos a unirse a nosotras el lunes, 6 de octubre a nuestro próximo Encuentro de Damas. ¡Ayúdennos a convertir este evento en una nueva tradición para las mujeres de nuestra parroquia!

Nuestro próximo pedido interno de tarjetas de regalo físicas será el lunes, 25 de agosto. Todos los pedidos enviados a la secretaría de la escuela antes del mediodía, a la oficina de negocios antes de las 3 p.m. o a través de la aplicación RaiseRight antes de las 8 p.m. del día 25 se incluirán en el pedido. Los pedidos deberían estar listos para recoger la semana siguiente.
No olviden que tenemos varias tiendas disponibles SOLO a través de la oficina (por ejemplo, Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens y VISA, por nombrar algunas).
