Marian Apparitions: Signs of a Mother’s Love
Dear Family of God,
Let us take a moment to reflect on the Blessed Mother’s supernatural appearances to her children—what we call Marian Apparitions—and the loving messages she brings to lead us closer to her Son.
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel – England, 1251
Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock, holding the Child Jesus and showing him a brown scapular. She promised that those who die wearing it with devotion will not suffer eternal fire.
Our Lady of Guadalupe – Mexico, 1531
Appearing to Juan Diego, Mary asked that a church be built in her honor and promised protection and guidance for the people of Mexico and all who seek her intercession.
Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal – Paris, 1830
Mary appeared to St. Catherine Labouré, pressing the world to her heart. She requested that a medal be made, promising great graces to those who wear it faithfully.
Our Lady of Lourdes – France, 1858
To 14-year-old Bernadette, Mary called out: “Penance! Penance! Penance!” She invited prayer for sinners, promised healing, and revealed herself as the Immaculate Conception.
Our Lady of Fatima – Portugal, 1917
Appearing to three shepherd children, Mary urged the daily Rosary for peace and conversion, asking for prayer and sacrifice for those most in need of God’s mercy.
The Central Message of Marian Apparitions
-
Pray: Especially the Rosary, seeking God’s mercy and peace.
-
Repent: Turn away from sin and embrace conversion.
-
Trust: Deepen faith and follow Christ with love and devotion.
-
Receive: Her comfort, protection, and motherly care.
As we honor Mary, let us open our hearts to her divine embrace and allow her maternal protection to guide us always toward her Son, Jesus Christ.
