Dear Sacred Heart Families,
It is so good to be back in the building this week! I have missed our students, faculty, and staff. As some of you may know, I spent much of last week at The Diocesan Leadership Conference. It was a time for our Diocesan principals to unite in prayer, fellowship, and learning. I was thrilled to see that the focus for this year was building strong teachers, standards, and goals through leadership. I learned many things to help Ms. McMullin and I continue leading our school. I look forward to sharing what I learned with our faculty and helping them become the best teachers they can be.
Our newer teachers also had some excellent training last week. Typically once a month, they meet in cohorts to learn and discuss topics relevant to classroom teachers. BTAP as it is called is put on by MTDS or the Missouri Teacher Development System. So far this year, teachers have discussed the technology tools they are using in their programs, classroom management tools, how to build partnerships with their students and parents, and how to set and achieve clear learning goals. I am really proud of how excited and invested they are in their BTAP programs. I have seen firsthand that many of them are using what they learn to make their classrooms a dynamic learning environment.
It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is around the corner! With that said, enrollment for the 25-26 school year will open very soon. I am thrilled with how our year is progressing. We have so much to be proud of at Sacred Heart. Our students are learning and growing in their academics and most importantly, their faith. I am proud to send my own children to Sacred Heart School. Our family has seen firsthand how our school and parish can help guide students into becoming hardworking, generous, thoughtful, smart, leaders. I am grateful that you too see the value of a Sacred Heart education!
As our 2024 Stewardship Renewal winds down, please take the time to pray and respond to God’s call to grow closer to Him. The question I asked myself while filling out my card included, “How can I help make our school and parish a better place?” Please fill out and submit your commitment card as soon as possible. This card is a tangible reminder of your commitment to the Sacred Heart community, and therefore we must have it to begin your registration for the 25-26 school year. The deadline to submit your commitment card is Saturday, November 30th.

Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Next Thursday, November 21, the Church celebrates the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The event celebrated by this feast is not recorded in the New Testament, but in the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James, an early Christian writing almost as old as parts of the New Testament. While the Church does not recognize it as having been inspired, and therefore does not consider it a part of the canon of Sacred Scripture, it is from this document that the Church has received the names Mary’s parents, Sts. Joachim and Anne, and the story of them bringing her to the Temple when she was three years old, to be raised there and completely dedicated to God until her marriage to St. Joseph.
There are records of this feast day being celebrated by the Christians in Jerusalem as far back as the 6th century. Our celebration of Mary’s Presentation is a celebration of her complete dedication to God and her perseverance in the fullness of grace she received at her Immaculate Conception.

It remains a common practice in many Hispanic Catholic communities to present three-year old children to the Church to receive a special blessing and give thanks to God for the gift of the child’s life. Parents who celebrate this blessing for their children follow the example of Sts. Joachim and Anne that we celebrate on this feast day.
Giving Thanks
St. Paul famously exhorts us: Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Here are Sacred Heart School and St. Vincent de Paul Parish we have so much to be thankful for! And during this month of November, we have some great opportunities to put our gratitude into action by giving back to those in need.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
On Tuesday, November 26, all of our students will attend the 8:30am Mass at Sacred Heart Chapel for Thanksgiving week, at which the Student Council will organize and lead a food drive. Canned goods and other non perishable food items will be collected during Mass, and delivered afterwards to the Open Door Service Center.
Thanksgiving Meals For Those in Need
You will find information below on how to help with the annual St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving Dinner for Those in Need. Last year we served over 1000 meals on Thanksgiving day to people in our community. Lots of help is needed to make this event a success, and we encourage our school families to get involved. Check out the information below or call the parish office to learn more about how to volunteer.
If you or someone you know would like to place an order to receive meals on Thanksgiving Day, please call 660-619-6509 and be ready to provide your name, address, phone number, number of meals needed (limit to 10 per address), and whether it will be pick-up or delivery.

Picture Retakes
Picture retakes are scheduled for Thursday, 11/21 at 8am. If your child is needing to retake their school picture, please make sure they are in their best uniform!
If you purchased and were unhappy with your Picture Package, please send your Picture Package, intact with nothing missing from the package, to school with your student on Retake Day. Your Retake Picture Package will be produced and shipped to the school four weeks after Retake Day. Please note, if your child is photographed on the original and Retake Picture Days, the Retake picture will replace the original picture in certain products, like the yearbook.

Student Council Food Drive for Open Door
Sacred Heart Student Council is hosting the annual canned food drive.
Kindergarten through 5th Grade students please bring canned food to your classroom.
Grades 6th – 8th please bring your canned goods to homeroom.
Grades 9-12 students must have your cans in the designated car by 7:30am to count toward the spirit stick.
WE NEED YOU!!! Volunteer to Help With the St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving Day Meals
We are still in need of volunteers to help with the Thanksgiving Dinner For Those In Need service project. Our greatest needs are volunteers to bake cookies, dropping them off by Tuesday, November 26, and to help in the kitchen, on the serving line, and clean-up on Thanksgiving Day. If you are looking for an opportunity to start a new tradition with your family, to add more meaning to this holiday which is meant to focus on being Thankful for the blessings God has given you, then we ask you to consider signing up to volunteer. Sign-Up to Help the Booster Club at Gate & Concession Stand Winter Sports
A big thank you to our gate and concession stand volunteers. We couldn’t do it without you!
If you have a student-athlete, sign-up to work at the concession stand or the gate. Each student-athlete is required to work two shifts in the concession stand or gate for Booster Club. A parent is required if the student is under age 14. If a student and parent both work the same shift, then two shifts are covered, and you have met your requirement! Now is a great time for winter and spring athletes to meet their requirements ahead of their seasons!
If the concession stand/gate duty requirement is not met, your FACTS account will be charged $100.

Sacred Heart School Hall of Fame – Call for Nominations
Applications due Dec. 2
Sacred Heart School is seeking nominations of outstanding groups and individuals to be inducted into its Sacred Heart School Hall of Fame.
The mission of the Sacred Heart School Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor the extraordinary accomplishments of the members of the Sacred Heart School family and celebrate those who can be looked upon as legitimate role models by current and future Gremlins.
Candidates for strong consideration include alumni who have made a positive impact on the world in which they live during their Sacred Heart years and/or after leaving Sacred Heart. Candidates also can include groups (such as teams) and non-alumni (SHS faculty, staff, parents, and volunteers) who have in some way made a positive, meaningful, and lasting contribution to Sacred Heart School.
Anyone is eligible to submit nominations to the SHS Hall of Fame. Nomination forms must be completed and returned by Dec. 2. Nomination forms are available at https://www.gogremlins.com/

Queridas familias del Sagrado Corazón,
¡Qué bueno es estar de regreso en el edificio esta semana! He extrañado a nuestros estudiantes, profesores y personal. Como algunos de ustedes sabrán, pasé gran parte de la semana pasada en la Conferencia de Liderazgo Diocesano. Fue un momento para que nuestros directores diocesanos se unieran en oración, compañerismo y aprendizaje. Me emocionó ver que el enfoque de este año era formar maestros, estándares y metas sólidos a través del liderazgo. Aprendí muchas cosas para ayudar a la Sra. McMullin y a mí a seguir dirigiendo nuestra escuela. Espero compartir lo que aprendí con nuestro cuerpo docente y ayudarlos a convertirse en los mejores maestros posibles.
Nuestros maestros más nuevos también recibieron una excelente capacitación la semana pasada. Por lo general, una vez al mes, se reúnen en grupos para aprender y discutir temas relevantes para los profesores de salones. BTAP, como se le llama, lo organiza MTDS o el Sistema de Desarrollo Docente de Missouri. En lo que va del año, los maestros han discutido las herramientas tecnológicas que están utilizando en sus programas, las herramientas de gestión del salón, cómo construir asociaciones con sus estudiantes y padres, y cómo establecer y lograr objetivos de aprendizaje claros. Estoy realmente orgullosa de lo entusiasmados y comprometidos que están con sus programas BTAP. He visto de primera mano que muchos de ellos están utilizando lo que aprenden para hacer de sus salones un entorno de aprendizaje dinámico.
¡Es difícil creer que el Día de Acción de Gracias está a la vuelta de la esquina! Dicho esto, muy pronto se abrirán las inscripciones para el curso escolar 25-26. Estoy encantada con cómo está progresando nuestro año. Tenemos mucho de qué estar orgullosos en Sagrado Corazon. Nuestros estudiantes están aprendiendo y creciendo en lo académico y, lo más importante, en su fe. Estoy orgullosa de enviar a mis propios hijos a la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón. Nuestra familia ha visto de primera mano cómo nuestra escuela y parroquia pueden ayudar a guiar a los estudiantes para que se conviertan en líderes trabajadores, generosos, reflexivos e inteligentes. ¡Estoy agradecida de que ustedes también vean el valor de una educación del Sagrado Corazón!

Presentación de la Bienaventurada Virgen María
El próximo jueves 21 de noviembre, la Iglesia celebra la Presentación de la Bienaventurada Virgen María. El evento que se celebra con esta fiesta no está registrado en el Nuevo Testamento, sino en el apócrifo Protoevangelium de Santiago, un escrito cristiano primitivo casi tan antiguo como partes del Nuevo Testamento. Si bien la Iglesia no lo reconoce como inspirado y, por lo tanto, no lo considera parte del canon de la Sagrada Escritura, es de este documento de donde la Iglesia recibió los nombres de los padres de María, San Joaquín y Santa Ana, y la historia de cómo la llevaron al Templo cuando tenía tres años, para criarla allí y dedicarse completamente a Dios hasta su matrimonio con San José.
Hay registros de que los cristianos de Jerusalén celebraban esta fiesta desde el siglo VI. Nuestra celebración de la Presentación de María es una celebración de su dedicación completa a Dios y su perseverancia en la plenitud de la gracia que recibió en su Inmaculada Concepción.
Presentación de tres años
En muchas comunidades católicas hispanas sigue siendo una práctica común presentar a los niños de tres años a la Iglesia para que reciban una bendición especial y den gracias a Dios por el don de la vida del niño. Los padres que celebran esta bendición para sus hijos siguen el ejemplo de los santos Joaquín y Ana, que celebramos en esta fiesta.
La Gratitud
San Pablo nos exhorta: Vivan siempre alegres, oren sin cesar, den gracias en toda ocasión, pues esto es lo que Dios quiere de ustedes en Cristo Jesús (1 Tesalonicenses 5,16-18). ¡Tenemos tanto por lo que estar agradecidos en la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón y en la Parroquia San Vicente de Paúl! Y durante este mes de noviembre, tenemos grandes oportunidades de poner nuestra gratitud en acción ayudando a los necesitados:
Campaña de recolección de alimentos de Acción de Gracias
El martes 26 de noviembre, todos nuestros estudiantes asistirán a la Misa de las 8:30am en la Capilla del Sagrado Corazón para la semana de Acción de Gracias, en la que el Consejo Estudiantil organizará y dirigirá una campaña de recolección de alimentos. Se recolectarán alimentos enlatados y otros alimentos no perecederos durante la Misa y se entregarán después al Open Door Service Center.
Comidas de Acción de Gracias para los necesitados
A continuación, encontrará información sobre cómo ayudar con la cena anual de Acción de Gracias de San Vicente de Paúl para los necesitados. El año pasado, servimos más de 1000 comidas el día de Acción de Gracias a personas de nuestra comunidad. Se necesita mucha ayuda para que este evento sea un éxito y alentamos a las familias de nuestra escuela a participar. La repetición de fotografías está programada para el jueves, 21 noviembre a las 8 a.m. Si su hijo necesita volver a tomarse la fotografía escolar, ¡asegúrese de que esté con su mejor uniforme!
Si compró su paquete de fotografías y no está satisfecho con él, envíelo intacto y sin que falte nada del paquete, a la escuela con su estudiante el día de repetición. Su paquete de fotografía de recuperación se producirá y enviará a la escuela cuatro semanas después del día de recuperación. Tenga en cuenta que si se fotografía a su hijo en los días original y de repetición de fotografías, la fotografía de repetición reemplazará la fotografía original en ciertos productos, como el anuario.

El Consejo Estudiantil del Sagrado Corazón está organizando la colecta anual de alimentos enlatados.
Estudiantes de Kinder a quinto grado, traigan comida enlatada a su salón de clases.
Grados 6º a 8º, por favor traiga sus productos enlatados al salón de clases.
Los estudiantes de los grados 9 a 12 deben tener sus latas en el automóvil designado antes de las 7:30 a.m. para contar para el spirit stick.

Si tiene un estudiante-atleta, regístrese para trabajar en el puesto de comida o en la puerta. Cada estudiante-atleta debe trabajar dos turnos en el puesto de comida o en la puerta del Booster Club. Se requiere un padre si el estudiante tiene menos de 14 años. Si un estudiante y un padre trabajan en el mismo turno, entonces se cubren dos turnos y usted ha cumplido con su requisito. ¡Ahora es un buen momento para que los atletas de invierno y primavera cumplan con sus requisitos antes de sus temporadas!
Si no se cumple con el requisito de servicio en el puesto de comida/puerta, se le cobrarán $100 a su cuenta FACTS.

Estamos buscando nominaciones de grupos e individuos destacados para ser incluidos en el Salón de la Fama de nuestra Escuela del Sagrado Corazón.
La misión del Salón de la Fama de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón es reconocer y honrar los logros extraordinarios de los miembros de nuestra familia de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón y celebrar a aquellos que pueden ser considerados modelos legítimos por los Gremlins actuales y futuros.
Los candidatos para una fuerte consideración incluyen ex alumnos que han tenido un impacto positivo en el mundo en el que viven durante sus años en el Sagrado Corazón y/o después de dejar el Sagrado Corazón. Los candidatos también pueden incluir grupos (como equipos) y no ex alumnos (profesores, personal, padres y voluntarios de SHS) que de alguna manera hayan hecho una contribución positiva, significativa y duradera a la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón.
