Dear Sacred Heart Families,

One of the many traditions we cherish at Sacred Heart is our annual Elementary Grandparents Day celebration. It truly warms my heart to see our chapel and gymnasium filled with the joy of children and their families. This year’s celebration was particularly special, and we are so grateful to our extraordinary teachers for helping students create thoughtful gifts and prepare a beautiful song.

We are incredibly blessed by those who give of their time to provide hospitality. I would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Liz Van Leer (Development Director), Mrs. Cortnie Sanders  (Gremlin Family  Partnership Event Chair), our parent volunteers, students, and faculty for hosting over 200 guests and making it look and feel so welcoming We couldn’t do this without everyone coming together. Thank you all for making this Grandparents Day one to remember!

We would love to have your family more involved with our school and parish. The Gremlin Family Partnership is a new initiative designed to align your unique interests and talents with various activities and projects at Sacred Heart School. A thriving community and positive culture are built when we all come together, working hand in hand. Your participation is wanted and needed!

Blessing of Pets

Last week the Church celebrated the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, a great saint who taught that all of creation teaches humanity about the glory of God our Creator, and who believed so strongly in the necessity of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ that, when no one else would listen, he would even preach to animals! To celebrate St. Francis here at Sacred Heart School, Dcn. Nestor Montenegro celebrated our annual Blessing of the Pets.

Armor of God – 5th Grade

Last week on Tuesday, October 1st, our 5th graders received the Rosary as the next piece of the Armor of God. Yesterday, October 7th was the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, and in the Catholic Church the whole month of October is traditionally dedicated to the Rosary.

Hispanic Heritage Month – St. Oscar Romero

As the patron saint of El Salvador, Saint Oscar Romero is very near and dear to us here at Sacred Heart, due to the large El Salvadoran population that we have here in St. Vincent de Paul Parish. St. Oscar Romero was an archbishop in El Salvador in the 20th century, who spoke out boldly against the human rights violations perpetrated by the government, as well as the persecution of those in the Church who worked to defend the poor. He was martyred on March 24, 1980, and canonized by Pope Francis on October 14, 2018.

I was still studying at the American seminary in Rome in 2018, and I was blessed to attend his canonization Mass. It was a privilege for me to be able to bless the new image of St. Oscar Romero that we installed in St. Patrick Chapel last year.

Prayer for Artists

On this Tuesday of the 27th Week in Ordinary Time, the whole Church will pray for artists during Evening Prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours, saying:

God establishes his people in hope. Let us cry out to him with joy:
You are the hope of your people, Lord.

We thank you, Lord,
— because in Christ you have given us all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

O God, in your hands are the hearts of the powerful; bestow your wisdom upon government leaders,

 — may they draw from the fountain of your counsel and please you in thought and deed.

The talents of artists reflect your splendor,
— may their work give the world hope and joy.

You do not allow us to be tested beyond our ability,
— strengthen the weak and raise up the fallen.

Through your Son you promised to raise men up on the Last Day,
— do not forget those who have died.

Tomorrow, several of our high school students will be participating in the Kaysinger Art Contest, and we offer this prayer for them, as well!

Blood Drive

We had an incredible turnout for the fall blood drive! Collecting 59 units is a fantastic achievement, especially knowing that those units could potentially save 177 lives. It is great to see our students and community working together to support such a meaningful cause.

Those who were unable to donate at our blood drive are encouraged to donate at any Community Blood Center Donation Center using our group code: KCHA. Donors can find the closest location to them by clicking HERE 

The next blood drive is scheduled January 29, 2025. Please, put it on your calendars!”

APC Win-Win Cards 2 Days Left for Incentives!!

There are 2 days left to sell APC Discount Cards and return your envelope with money for the cards sold. All envelopes returned by this Friday, October 11th will be counted towards the Ice Cream Treat Party incentive and the incentives to class treasuries for junior high and high school students. If you still have cards to sell, the final date to return all money and unsold cards is Friday, November 8th.

If you need more cards to sell, please call the school office at 660-827-3800. If you don’t plan to sell your cards, we ask for you to consider making a donation to APC and returning the cards so another student can sell them.

High Five Friday Dad Style was a big hit!!! We can’t think of a better way to start the day than with high fives! Crazy thing – there must have been a sale on red plaid shirts, or some fun moms behind the surprise for our dads with their matching shirts! Don’t forget we have several retailers ONLY available through the office (i.e. Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens, and VISA to name a few). Stop in at the school office on Tuesdays and Thursdays during our volunteer open hours from 9:00am – 11:00am for immediate purchases, or drop your order at the school office or email it to the program coordinator at scrip@gogremlins.com. Our volunteers will fill your order on Tuesdays and Thursdays and let you know when it’s available for pick-up. We will be at Masses this weekend, Sunday, October 13th. Queridas familias del Sagrado Corazón,

Una de las muchas tradiciones que apreciamos en Sagrado Corazón es nuestra celebración anual del Día de los Abuelos de Primaria. Realmente me alegra el corazón ver nuestra capilla y gimnasio llenos de la alegría de los niños y sus familias. La celebración de este año fue particularmente especial y estamos muy agradecidos con nuestros extraordinarios maestros por ayudar a los estudiantes a crear regalos bien pensados y preparar una hermosa canción.

Nos sentimos increíblemente bendecidos por aquellos que dedican su tiempo a brindar hospitalidad. Me gustaría extender un agradecimiento especial a la Sra. Liz Van Leer (Directora de Desarrollo), a la Sra. Cortnie Sanders (Presidente del Evento de Asociación Familiar Gremlin), a nuestros padres voluntarios, estudiantes y profesores por recibir a más de 200 invitados y hacer que luciera y fuera un ambiente tan acogedor. No podríamos hacer esto sin que todos se unieran. ¡Gracias a todos por hacer de este Día de los Abuelos uno inolvidable!

Nos encantaría que su familia estuviera más involucrada con nuestra escuela y parroquia. Gremlin Family Partnership es una nueva iniciativa diseñada para alinear sus intereses y talentos únicos con diversas actividades y proyectos en la Escuela Sagrado Corazón. Una comunidad próspera y una cultura positiva se construyen cuando todos nos unimos y trabajamos mano a mano. ¡Su participación es deseada y necesaria!

Bendición de las mascotas

La semana pasada la Iglesia celebró la fiesta de San Francisco de Asís, un gran santo que enseñó que toda la creación enseña a la humanidad acerca de la gloria de Dios nuestro Creador, y que creía tan firmemente en la necesidad de predicar el Evangelio de Jesucristo que, cuando nadie más escuchaba, ¡incluso predicaba a los animales! Para celebrar a San Francisco aquí en la Escuela Sagrado Corazón, Dcn. Néstor Montenegro celebró nuestra Bendición Anual de las Mascotas.

Armadura de Dios – 5to Grado

La semana pasada, el martes 1 de octubre, nuestros alumnos de 5to grado recibieron el Rosario como la siguiente pieza de la Armadura de Dios. Ayer 7 de octubre fue la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, y en la Iglesia Católica tradicionalmente todo el mes de octubre está dedicado al Rosario.

Mes de la Herencia Hispana – San Óscar Romero

Como santo patrón de El Salvador, San Óscar Romero es muy cercano y querido para nosotros aquí en el Sagrado Corazón, debido a la gran población salvadoreña que tenemos aquí en la Parroquia de San Vicente de Paúl. San Óscar Romero fue un arzobispo de El Salvador en el siglo XX, que habló audazmente contra las violaciones de derechos humanos perpetradas por el gobierno, así como la persecución de aquellos en la Iglesia que trabajaban para defender a los pobres. Fue martirizado en el 24 de marzo de 1980 y canonizado por el Papa Francisco el 14 de octubre de 2018.

Todavía estaba estudiando en el seminario americano en Roma en 2018 y tuve la bendición de asistir a su Misa de canonización. Fue un privilegio para mí poder bendecir la nueva imagen de San Óscar Romero que instalamos en la Capilla de San Patricio el año pasado.

Oración por los artistas

En este martes de la Semana 27 del Tiempo Ordinario, toda la Iglesia orará por los artistas durante la Oración de la tarde de la Liturgia de las Horas, diciendo:

Dios establece a su pueblo en la esperanza. Clamemos a él con alegría:

                  Tú eres la esperanza de tu pueblo, Señor.

Te damos gracias, Señor,

 — Porque en Cristo nos has dado todos los tesoros de la sabiduría y del conocimiento.

Oh Dios, en tus manos están los corazones de los poderosos; Otorga tu sabiduría a los líderes gubernamentales,

 — que beban de la fuente de tu consejo y te agraden en pensamiento y obra.

Los talentos de los artistas reflejan tu esplendor,

 — que su trabajo dé al mundo esperanza y alegría.

No permitas que seamos probados más allá de nuestras posibilidades,

 — fortalece a los débiles y levanta a los caídos.

Por tu Hijo prometiste resucitar a los hombres en el Último Día,

 — No olvides a los que han muerto.

Mañana, varios de nuestros estudiantes de preparatoria participarán en el Concurso de Arte Kaysinger y ¡también ofrecemos esta oración por ellos!

Donación de sangre

¡Tuvimos una participación increíble en la campaña de donación de sangre de otoño! Recolectar 59 unidades es un logro fantástico, especialmente sabiendo que esas unidades podrían salvar 177 vidas. Es fantástico ver a nuestros estudiantes y a la comunidad trabajando juntos para apoyar una causa tan significativa.

Se anima a aquellos que no pudieron donar en nuestra campaña de donación de sangre a donar en cualquier Centro de donación de Community Blood Center utilizando nuestro código de grupo: KCHA. Los donantes pueden encontrar la ubicación más cercana a ellos haciendo clic AQUÍ 

La próxima campaña de donación de sangre está programada para el 29 de enero de 2025. ¡Por favor, anótenlo en sus calendarios!”

Tarjetas APC Win-Win ¡¡Quedan dos días para incentivos!!

Quedan 2 días para vender Tarjetas de Descuento APC y devolver tu sobre con el dinero de las tarjetas vendidas. Todos los sobres devueltos antes de este viernes, 11 de octubre, contarán para el incentivo Ice Cream Treat Party y los incentivos para las tesorerías de clase para estudiantes de secundaria y preparatoria. Si todavía tienes tarjetas para vender, la fecha final para devolver todo el dinero y las tarjetas no vendidas es el viernes 8 de noviembre

Si necesita más tarjetas para vender, llame a la oficina de la escuela al 660-827-3800. Si no planea vender sus tarjetas, le pedimos que considere hacer una donación a APC y devolver las tarjetas para que otro estudiante pueda venderlas.
