Dear Sacred Heart Families,

What a fantastic homecoming week we just wrapped up! From spirited events to unforgettable moments, this year’s festivities were truly extraordinary. A huge congratulations to the freshman class for winning Fall Homecoming! Their enthusiasm and creativity were on full display, and it was incredible to see their hard work pay off.

Throughout the week, our school community came together in a sea of red and white, showcasing our pride and unity. It was heartwarming to witness everyone embracing the spirit of homecoming, creating an atmosphere filled with joy and camaraderie.

Thank you to everyone who participated, organized, and cheered! Your support made this week unforgettable.

Last week we celebrated Fall Homecoming at Sacred Heart, and over the weekend we celebrated the feast day of our parish patron, St. Vincent de Paul. It made for a busy week, but full of grace, as well!

Armor of God – 7th Grade

At the 8:30am Mass last Thursday morning, the 7th graders received the Bible as the next item in their Armor of God.

Athletes & Disciples – Adoration Under the Stars

After both JV and Varsity Boys’ Soccer victories on Friday evening, we were thrilled to have around 120 of our students, families, alumni, staff, and parishioners stick around at Suzie Ditzfeld Memorial Field for the second installment of our Athletes and Disciples event series, giving public witness to the Catholic faith that informs every activity at Sacred Heart, including its athletic program.

Students themselves organized volunteers to be servers for Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction, and a group of student and alumni musicians provided beautiful and prayerful music to accompany the time of adoration, under the direction of Mr. Hartman

Annual St. Vincent de Paul Bazaar Dinner Auction

  

We had a wonderful turnout on Saturday evening for the annual parish Bazaar. It was great to see everyone in their Black & White, coming to support our parish and the mission of the Church here in Pettis County. Some even reported seeing St. Vincent de Paul himself among our guests!

Celebrating St. Vincent de Paul

  

This weekend marks five years since the Catholics of Pettis County were brought together as St. Vincent de Paul Parish. We celebrated by observing his feast day at our weekend Masses, and by installing and blessing the new statutes of St. Vincent de Paul in each of our chapels. Thanks to all who helped with preparations for these beautiful additions to our worship spaces.

Hispanic Heritage Month – Blessed Miguel Pro

This month we celebrate the 36th anniversary of the Beatification of Blessed Miguel Pro by Pope St. John Paul II on September 25, 1988. Miguel was a young Jesuit priest who died a martyr in Mexico City in 1927.

Born in the city of Guadalupe in the state of Zacatecas in Mexico, Miguel left his native land to study to be a priest, due to the anticlerical provisions of the 1917 Constitution. Ordained a priest in 1925, he returned to his homeland in 1926 to minister clandestinely to the Catholic faithful, suffering persecution at the hands of the government. After only a year of such ministry, in 1927, he was discovered, arrested, and executed by firing squad without a trial. His feast day is November 23, the anniversary of his death.

As he went to his martyrdom, Miguel was heard praying for those who persecuted him, “May God have mercy on you! May God bless you! Lord, Thou knowest that I am innocent! With all my heart I forgive my enemies!” His final words were “Viva Cristo Rey” – “Long Live Christ the King!”

Blessing of the Pets

Looking ahead this week (since I forgot to put this in the Beat on Friday!) October 4th is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. On his feast day, it is customary for parish members to bring their pets for the priest to bless their animals. This blessing is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures. On Thursday, October 3, 2024 beginning at 8:00am, we will continue our tradition of elementary students attending the Blessing of the Pets.

The blessing will take place on the blacktop on the north side of the school. Parents can report to the playground with their pet. All students are to report to the classroom for lunch count and attendance. Elementary students will be dismissed to the playground following morning prayer and announcements.

After the blessing has taken place, the parent and pet will be dismissed and students will return to the classroom. Unfortunately, we cannot have animals remain with us during the school day.  Cats and other critters should be contained in a cage or carrier. Dogs must be on a leash.

State Fair Grandstand Concession RESULTS!

The results of our work at the Grandstand Concessions are in! We were able to fill 87 shifts earning a total of $10,099.55 for SHS! Based on our total, we allocated $2,080 for class incentives. The incentive was divided based on class participation. AND any class that covered 12 or more shifts earned a class party! Here are the results! Thanks to everyone who makes this “work to earn” possible!

High Five Friday

High Five Fridays are such a fabulous and emerging tradition, especially with the soccer teams and cheerleaders leading the way! It’s wonderful to see students coming together to celebrate and build excitement, especially during Homecoming week. It’s a fantastic way to kick off the weekend and make lifelong memories at Sacred Heart!

Junior High Kaysinger Art Contest

The Junior High artists did an amazing job at the Kaysinger Art Contest. On September 24th  Sacred Heart took 2nd place in the group project out of 10 schools.  Nealy Jennings received 3rd place in Multimedia, Hunter Engles received 3rd place in Marker, and Avery Dillon received 3rd place in colored pencil.  Please congratulate all of the artists.

The Sacred Heart Before School Care (BSC) and After School Care (ASC) offers a fun, safe, and nurturing environment for all Sacred Heart students in kindergarten – 6th grade. We promote a balanced, supportive, and active, learning environment where students are encouraged to learn and discover through materials, participate in activities that challenge them and try novel ideas that foster creativity.

In Before School Care (BSC), students will need to enter at the cafeteria doors. Press the buzzer to be let into the building. Students will go directly to the cafeteria and check-in.

• Before School Care hours are 6:30am to 7:30am

• Full Time $10/week per family

• Drop-In $3/day (must sign-up in advance)

In After School Care (ASC), students have the opportunity to play with friends and relax at the end of the day. The program also provides students the opportunity to do homework with supervision from Sacred Heart Childcare staff. CLICK HERE

APC Win-Win Cards Two Weeks Left for Incentives!!

There are two weeks left to sell APC Discount Cards and return your envelope with money for the cards sold. All envelopes returned by Friday, October 11th will be counted towards the Ice Cream Treat Party incentive and the incentives to class treasuries for junior high and high school students. If you still have cards to sell, the final date to return all money and unsold cards is Friday, November 8th.

If you need more cards to sell, please call the school office at 660-827-3800. If you don’t plan to sell your cards, we ask for you to consider making a donation to APC and returning the cards so another student can sell them.

Don’t forget we have several retailers ONLY available through the office (i.e. Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens, and VISA to name a few). Stop in at the school office on Tuesdays and Thursdays during our volunteer open hours from 9:00am – 11:00am for immediate purchases, or drop your order at the school office or email it to the program coordinator at scrip@gogremlins.com. Our volunteers will fill your order on Tuesdays and Thursdays and let you know when it’s available for pick-up. We will not be at Masses this weekend. Queridas familias del Sagrado Corazón,

¡Qué fantástica semana de Homecoming que acabamos de concluir! Desde eventos animados hasta momentos inolvidables, las festividades de este año fueron verdaderamente extraordinarias. ¡Muchísimas felicitaciones a los Freshman por ganar Homecoming de otoño! Su entusiasmo y creatividad estaban a la vista y fue increíble ver que su arduo trabajo dio sus frutos.

A lo largo de la semana, nuestra comunidad escolar se reunió en un mar de rojo y blanco, mostrando nuestro orgullo y unidad. Fue conmovedor ver a todos abrazar el espíritu de Homecoming, creando una atmósfera llena de alegría y camaradería.

¡Gracias a todos los que participaron, organizaron y animaron! Su apoyo hizo que esta semana fuera inolvidable.

La semana pasada celebramos Homecoming en el Sagrado Corazón y durante el fin de semana celebramos la fiesta de nuestro patrón parroquial, San Vicente de Paúl. ¡Fue una semana ocupada, pero también llena de gracia!

Armadura de Dios – 7mo grado

En la Misa de las 8:30 am del jueves pasado por la mañana, los estudiantes de séptimo grado recibieron la Biblia como el siguiente elemento de su Armadura de Dios.

Atletas y Discípulos – Adoración Bajo las Estrellas

Después de las victorias de JV y Varsity Boys’ Soccer el viernes por la noche, estábamos encantados de tener alrededor de 120 de nuestros estudiantes, familias, exalumnos, personal y feligreses en el Suzie Ditzfeld Memorial Field para la segunda entrega de nuestra serie de eventos Atletas y Discípulos, dando testimonio público de la fe Católica que informa cada actividad en el Sagrado Corazón, incluido su programa deportivo.

Los propios estudiantes organizaron voluntarios para ser servidores de la Exposición Eucarística y la Bendición, y un grupo de estudiantes y ex alumnos músicos proporcionaron música hermosa y de oración para acompañar el tiempo de adoración, bajo la dirección del Sr. Hartman.

Subasta anual de cena del Bazaar de San Vicente de Paúl

  

Tuvimos una participación maravillosa el sábado por la noche en el Bazaar anual de la parroquia. Fue fantástico ver a todos en blanco y negro, viniendo a apoyar nuestra parroquia y la misión de la Iglesia aquí en el condado de Pettis. ¡Algunos incluso informaron haber visto al propio San Vicente de Paúl entre nuestros invitados!

Celebrando a San Vicente de Paúl

Este fin de semana se cumplen cinco años desde que los Católicos del condado de Pettis se reunieron como la parroquia de San Vicente de Paúl. Celebramos observando su fiesta en nuestras Misas de fin de semana e instalando y bendiciendo los nuevos estatutos de San Vicente de Paúl en cada una de nuestras capillas. Gracias a todos los que ayudaron con los preparativos de estas hermosas incorporaciones a nuestros espacios de adoración.

Mes de la Herencia Hispana – Beato Miguel Pro

Este mes celebramos el 36 aniversario de la Beatificación del Beato Miguel Pro por el Papa San Juan Pablo II el 25 de septiembre de 1988. Miguel era un sacerdote joven Jesuita que murió mártir en la Ciudad de México en 1927.

Nacido en la ciudad de Guadalupe en el estado de Zacatecas en México, Miguel abandonó su tierra natal para estudiar para ser sacerdote, debido a las disposiciones anticlericales de la Constitución de 1917. Fue ordenado sacerdote en 1925, regresó a su tierra natal en 1926 para ministrar clandestinamente a los fieles Católicos, sufriendo persecución a manos del gobierno. Después de sólo un año de ese ministerio, en 1927, fue descubierto, arrestado y ejecutado por un pelotón de fusilamiento sin juicio. Su fiesta es el 23 de noviembre, aniversario de su muerte.

Mientras se dirigía a su martirio, se escuchó a Miguel orar por quienes lo perseguían: “¡Que Dios tenga misericordia de ustedes! ¡Que Dios te bendiga! ¡Señor, tú sabes que soy inocente! ¡Con todo mi corazón perdono a mis enemigos! Sus últimas palabras fueron “Viva Cristo Rey” – “¡Viva Cristo Rey!”

Bendición para las mascotas

Mirando hacia el futuro esta semana (¡ya que olvidé poner esto en el Beat del viernes!), el 4 de octubre es el día festivo de San Francisco de Asís. En su día festivo, es costumbre que los feligreses traigan sus mascotas para que el sacerdote las bendiga. Esta bendición se lleva a cabo en memoria del amor de San Francisco de Asís por todas las criaturas. El jueves 3 de octubre de 2024 a partir de las 8:00 a.m., continuaremos nuestra tradición de que los estudiantes de primaria asistan a la Bendición de las Mascotas.

La bendición se llevará a cabo en el asfalto del lado norte de la escuela. Los padres pueden presentarse en el patio de recreo con su mascota. Todos los estudiantes deben presentarse a su salón para contar el almuerzo y asistencia. Los estudiantes de primaria saldrán al patio de recreo después de la oración y los anuncios de la mañana.

Después de que se haya realizado la bendición, los padres y su mascota saldrán y los estudiantes regresarán al salón de clases. Desafortunadamente, no podemos permitir que las mascotas permanezcan con nosotros durante el día escolar.  Los gatos y otros animales deben estar contenidos en una jaula o transportador. Los perros deben estar atados.

Los viernes de High Five son una tradición fabulosa y emergente, ¡especialmente con los equipos de fútbol y las porristas dirigiendo! Es maravilloso ver a los estudiantes reunirse para celebrar y generar entusiasmo, especialmente durante la semana de Homecoming. ¡Es una manera fantástica de comenzar el fin de semana y crear recuerdos para toda la vida en Sagrado Corazon!

Concurso de arte Kaysinger de secundaria

Los artistas de la secundaria hicieron un trabajo increíble en el Concurso de Arte Kaysinger. El 24 de septiembre, Sagrado Corazón obtuvo el 2º lugar en el proyecto en grupo entre 10 escuelas. Nealy Jennings recibió el 3er lugar en Multimedia, Hunter Engles recibió el 3er lugar en Marcador y Avery Dillon recibió el 3er lugar en lápiz de color.  Por favor felicite a todos los artistas.

Actualmente nos quedan algunos lugares en nuestra clase de preescolar de 4 años. Las clases se ofrecen tres días a la semana, los lunes, miércoles y viernes. No olvide que tenemos varios minoristas SOLO disponibles a través de la oficina (es decir, Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens y VISA, por nombrar algunos). Con el año escolar llegando a su fin, pasaremos a nuestro horario de verano para completar pedidos. Si desea comprar tarjetas de regalo físicas, visite la oficina de la escuela los martes y jueves de 9 a.m. a 11 a.m. para compras inmediatas o deje su pedido en la oficina de la escuela o envíelo por correo electrónico al coordinador del programa a scrip@gogremlins.com. Nuestros voluntarios completarán su pedido los martes y jueves y le informarán cuando esté disponible para ser recogido. No estaremos en las Misas este fin de semana.
