Josten’s Class Ring Order

Our Josten’s representative met with our juniors and seniors this morning to hand out class ring pre-order information. They will return on Friday, September 22nd for those who wish to order. An $80 deposit is required. Class rings will be delivered on Tuesday, December 5th.

SHS Booster Club – It’s Where You Want To Be

Are you looking for a way to get involved at school and support athletic opportunities for our students at the same time? If so, join us in the Commons Monday, September 18th for our first meeting of the school year. Parents, grandparents, coaches, and all supporters of Sacred Heart Athletics are welcome. It takes all of us working as a team to make sure our students have opportunities to excel athletically, in addition to academically. Help us as we begin planning for the Winter sports season. We hope to see you there!

APC Discount Cards On Their Way

It was the 3rd week of September and all through the school, in backpacks big and small, APC discount cards were making their way home. Hot off the presses, the 2024 APC discount cards will be making their way into your hands by the end of next week. Keep your eyes peeled for the manilla envelope with your cards next Thursday or Friday. Remember if your kids are in grades K-5 you will have one envelope for your family. If you have kids in grades 6-12 each student will receive an envelope. Back again by popular demand, the Ice Cream Sundae Party for the classes that sell the most in elementary, junior high, and high school.

Paid Dress Down Day- Cancer Perks

The first Paid Dress Down Day of the year is Wednesday, September 20th and will benefit Cancer Perks. Cancer Perks is a local non-profit that assists cancer patients within our community. They offer gas mileage reimbursement, assistance with medical needs, and any other day to day need. Cancer Perks supports patients who choose Bothwell Regional Health Center, Western Missouri Medical Center, or Fitzgibbon Hospital. The only requirement to qualify is to have a medical or financial need AND being treated in one of those three hospitals. 100% of their funds stay in our three counties and their overhead costs are less than 5%, unheard of for almost all non-profits.

MU Health Screening K-5 – Date Changed

On Wednesday, September 20th we will conduct general health screenings beginning at 8:30am for our K-5th grade students with the help of the MU Pediatric students. Screenings will consist of checking hearing, vision, and vitals (i.e. blood pressure, weight, and height).

Fall Picture Day

5th Grade Receives Armor of God, the Rosary at Mass Tuesday September 19

Every student from first through twelfth grade receives a prayer tool each year. This coming Tuesday, the 5th grade students will receive their red rope Rosary. Please pray for our fifth grade students and their families.  Mrs. LIbby has great ideas on how she will continue to teach the students to pray the rosary throughout this year. May we all pick up our rosaries and pray them more often this year. Thank you fifth grade students for inspiring each of us to pray our rosary more often!

Exalt (XLT) Adoration September 19

A few years back when we introduced adoration of the Blessed Sacrament to the school it came with some anticipated raised eyebrows. As we enter our fifth year of XLT Adoration, I don’t think there are too many who want to see this important tradition go away. First, everyone in our school keeps a very busy hectic schedule. And, we never want to make our busy-ness an idol or think we can take on more without the assistance of God. So, once a month, everyone in the school, not just students, are invited to the chapel to “just be” in front of the Blessed Sacrament and pray. What makes this different from the adoration chapel is that there is a lot of upbeat and meditative Christian Music played to assist us in our prayers. Many prayer devices are offered so the adorers can fill up their time with good prayer. Feel free to come join us in prayer. If you work during the day our adoration chapel is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-9pm and Fridays from 9am-6pm. Anyone can come and “just be” with our Lord.

Where was I in the 90’s?

I graduated high school in 1989. I was ordained a priest in 2000. Between high school graduation and ordination to the priesthood, I was in college throughout the 90’s: 5 years at Culver-Stockton College (BS in Elementary and Special Education), 2 years at Conception Seminary College (Pre-Theology degree), and 4 years at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary (M.Div and MA in Pastoral Studies). So, I’ll try to be a college student at the Bazaar on Saturday September 23.  See you there! It’s going to be a great night!!

Faith Formation at SHS

Sacred Heart School assists families in the formation of their children. We cooperate with parents, who are the first educators of their children, in forming good Christians who will go into the world and spread the good news of Jesus to all environments. Wherever they go, Sacred Heart students carry with them the love of God they have deep within their hearts. The sacraments are at the core of our faith formation program, and the First Communion and Confirmation are two examples. With the first one, the students receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. With the second, the students renew their Baptismal promises and assume an active role in the evangelization of the world. To receive these two sacraments, students undergo a thorough program that helps them understand the consequences and meaning of their actions. As I said at the beginning, parents are the first educators, and the preparation for these two sacraments is no exception. With their excellent testimony and conversation, parents help these two sacraments mark a critical point in their children’s lives. I invite all parents to think and pray about the testimony you give to your kids. I have witnessed many, many good examples, and I have had a good number of good conversations with parents about this matter. Our volunteers will fill your order on Tuesdays and Thursdays and let you know when it’s available for pick-up. RaiseRight will not be at Sunday Masses this weekend. Orden de anillos de clase de Josten

Nuestro representante de Josten se reunió con nuestros estudiantes del grado once y doce esta mañana para entregarles información sobre el pedido anticipado de anillos de clase. Regresarán el viernes 22 de septiembre para quienes deseen realizar un pedido. Se requiere un depósito de $80. Los anillos de clase se entregarán el martes 5 de diciembre.

SHS Booster Club: es donde quieres estar

¿Está buscando una manera de involucrarse en la escuela y apoyar las oportunidades deportivas para nuestros estudiantes? Tarjetas de descuento de APC en camino

Era la tercera semana de septiembre y por toda la escuela, en mochilas grandes y pequeñas, las tarjetas de descuento de APC iban camino a casa. Recién salidas de la imprimidora, las tarjetas de descuento de APC 2024 llegarán a sus manos a finales de la próxima semana. Mantén los ojos bien abiertos para ver el sobre manilla con tus tarjetas el próximo jueves o viernes. Recuerde que si sus hijos están en los grados K-5, tendrá un sobre para su familia. Si tiene hijos en los grados 6-12, cada estudiante recibirá un sobre. De regreso por demanda popular, la Fiesta de Ice Cream Sundae para las clases que más venden en primaria, secundaria y preparatoria.

Día de vestimenta informal pagado: ventajas contra el cáncer

 El primer día de vestimenta informal pagado del año es el miércoles 20 de septiembre y beneficiará a Cancer Perks. Cáncer Perks es una organización local sin fines de lucro que ayuda a los pacientes con cáncer dentro de nuestra comunidad. Ofrecen reembolso por millas de gasolina, asistencia con necesidades médicas y cualquier otra necesidad diaria. Cáncer Perks apoya a los pacientes que eligen Bothwell Regional Health Center, Western Missouri Medical Center o Fitzgibbon Hospital. El único requisito para calificar es tener una necesidad médica o financiera y recibir tratamiento en uno de esos tres hospitales. 5to Grado Recibe Armadura de Dios, el Rosario en Misa del Martes 19 de Septiembre

Cada estudiante desde primero hasta duodécimo grado recibe una herramienta de oración cada año. Este próximo martes los alumnos de 5to grado recibirán su Rosario de cuerda roja. Por favor oren por nuestros estudiantes de quinto grado y sus familias. La Sra. LIbby tiene grandes ideas sobre cómo continuará enseñando a los estudiantes a rezar el rosario durante este año. Que todos recojamos nuestros rosarios y los recemos con más frecuencia este año. ¡Gracias estudiantes de quinto grado por inspirarnos a cada uno de nosotros a rezar nuestro rosario con más frecuencia!

Exaltación (XLT) Adoración 19 de septiembre

Hace unos años, cuando introdujimos la adoración del Santísimo Sacramento en la escuela, hubo algunas sorpresas anticipadas. Al entrar en nuestro quinto año de Adoración XLT, no creo que haya muchos que quieran que esta importante tradición desaparezca. Primero, todos en nuestra escuela mantienen una agenda muy ocupada. Y nunca queremos hacer de nuestro ajetreo un ídolo o pensar que podemos asumir más sin la ayuda de Dios. Entonces, una vez al mes, todos en la escuela, no solo los estudiantes, son invitados a la capilla para “simplemente estar” frente al Santísimo Sacramento y orar. Lo que hace que esto sea diferente de la capilla de adoración es que se toca mucha música cristiana alegre y meditativa para ayudarnos en nuestras oraciones. Se ofrecen muchos dispositivos de oración para que los adoradores puedan ocupar su tiempo con una buena oración. Siéntete libre de unirte a nosotros en oración. Si trabaja durante el día, nuestra capilla de adoración está abierta los martes y jueves de 9 a. m. a 9 p. m. y los viernes de 9 a. m. a 6 p. m. Cualquiera puede venir y “simplemente estar” con nuestro Señor.

¿Dónde estaba yo en los 90?

Me gradué de la High School en 1989. Fui ordenado sacerdote en el año 2000. Entre la graduación de la High School y la ordenación al sacerdocio, estuve en la universidad durante los años 90: 5 años en Culver-Stockton College (licenciatura en  primaria y educación especial), 2 años en Conception Seminary College (título de Pre-Teología) y 4 años en Kenrick-Glennon Seminary (M.Div y MA en Estudios Pastorales). Entonces, intentaré ser un estudiante universitario en el Bazar el sábado 23 de septiembre. ¡Nos vemos allí! ¡¡Va a ser una gran noche!!

Formación de fe en SHS

El Colegio Sagrado Corazón ayuda a las familias en la formación de sus hijos. Cooperamos con los padres, que son los primeros educadores de sus hijos, en la formación de buenos cristianos que irán al mundo y difundirán la buena nueva de Jesús en todos los ambientes. Dondequiera que vayan, los estudiantes del Sagrado Corazón llevan consigo el amor de Dios que tienen en lo más profundo de sus corazones. Los sacramentos son el centro de nuestro programa de formación de la fe, y la Primera Comunión y la Confirmación son dos ejemplos. Con el primero, los alumnos reciben por primera vez a Jesús en la Eucaristía. Con la segunda, los estudiantes renuevan sus promesas bautismales y asumen un papel activo en la evangelización del mundo. Para recibir estos dos sacramentos, los estudiantes se someten a un programa exhaustivo que les ayuda a comprender las consecuencias y el significado de sus acciones. Como dije al principio, los padres son los primeros educadores, y la preparación a estos dos sacramentos no es una excepción. Con su excelente testimonio y conversación, los padres ayudan a que estos dos sacramentos marquen un punto crítico en la vida de sus hijos. Invito a todos los padres a pensar y orar por el testimonio que dan a sus hijos. He sido testigo de muchísimos buenos ejemplos y he tenido un buen número de buenas conversaciones con padres sobre este asunto. Nuestro próximo pedido interno de tarjetas de regalo físicas será el lunes 25 de septiembre. Todos los pedidos enviados a la oficina de la escuela antes del final de clases, o a través de la aplicación RaiseRight antes de las 8 p.m. del día 25, se incluirán en el pedido. Los pedidos deberían estar listos para ser recogidos la siguiente semana.

No olvide que tenemos varios  SÓLO disponibles a través de la oficina (es decir, Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens y VISA, por nombrar algunos). Visite la oficina de la escuela los martes y jueves durante nuestro horario de atención voluntaria de 9:00 a. m. a 11:00 a. m. para compras inmediatas, o deje su pedido en la oficina de la escuela o envíelo por correo electrónico al coordinador del programa. Nuestros voluntarios completarán su pedido los martes y jueves y le informarán cuando esté disponible para ser recogido. RaiseRight no estará en las misas dominicales este fin de semana.
