We have all chosen to send our children to Sacred Heart School for a faith-based education centered on academic excellence, service, and activities. We are very grateful to everyone who supports our school financially and with their time to ensure it continues striving.
The upcoming bazaar and golf classic are two significant ways to have fun while supporting our school. If you have never been to these events, this is the year that you should go! Bazaar tickets for the dinner and auction are available for another four days. The golf classic is a way to show your skills and have some fun. Any help that you can provide for these events is greatly appreciated.

Faculty/Staff Member of the Month for September
New this year, each month, our faculty and staff get to nominate a co-worker to be recognized as the Faculty/Staff Member of the Month. This award recognizes our teachers’ and staff’s outstanding effort and contribution to make our school excellent for our students. For the inaugural award, we recognize Mrs. Teresa Dillon as the Faculty/Staff Member of the Month for September 2023. Mrs. Dillon is our office secretary and registrar, but she is so much more. Anyone who has spent time in the front office knows it is as busy as Grand Central Station and unpredictable as Missouri weather. Mrs. Dillon takes it with grace and a smile despite the situation. She is a true professional who quickly earned the trust and respect of her colleagues. She’s constantly the first and last person to greet you as you enter and exit SHS. She loves and cares for our school community and has gone above and beyond to create efficient office and enrollment processes. In addition to the office, she is always willing to help out in other areas. She sets an example of our Catholic faith for all and deserves to be recognized for her many contributions. Congratulations Mrs. Dillon!!! We are truly blessed to have you on the team!!
MU Health Screening K-5
Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 13th we will conduct general health screenings beginning at 8:30am for our k-5th grade students with the help of the MU Pediatric students. Screenings will consist of checking hearing, vision, and vitals (i.e. blood pressure, weight, and height).

Did you know the Bazaar Dinner Auction isn’t just a MAJOR fundraiser for the parish. It’s also a HUGE supporter of the school. Over the last two years alone, the St. Vincent de Paul Bazaar Dinner Auction has raised over $100,000 to invest in our school. This money was used to improve our cafeteria, the new stove, the walk-in freezer/refrigerator, and to fix the roof and back wall in the kitchen/maintenance area. Thanks to this monetary investment from the Bazaar, the school was able to fix these significant structural issues that had been going on for years. Another considerable investment from previous years was the playground improvement project to resurface the playground and add new equipment for our younger students. These are just two areas the Bazaar has supported the school throughout the years.
We encourage our parents to support the Bazaar Dinner Auction … so the Bazaar Dinner Auction can continue to support the parish, which supports our school!! You can support the Bazaar by buying tickets to attend the event, buying Raffle tickets, participating in the silent auction (in person or remotely) through our Bidpal website, and participating in the Live Auction. Sunday Night Youth Group
This past Sunday evening from 6:30-8pm the 20 member youth group team invited 6-12 grade students and their parents to an event. We met in Church and at 6:30pm, Kevin Morales and Suzanne Peterson introduced themselves and led the 20 High School students to the John Bosco Room, the room on the third floor of the Parish Center. The room is comfortable with couches and big chairs arranged for great discussion and conversation. Then, Liz Kehl and Donita Shipman introduced themselves and took the 6-8 grade students to the second floor room, the Maria Gartetti Room which is set up with round tables, a Smart Board TV and versatile in discussion and presentations. The parents and members of the youth group team in attendance went to the Parish Center. The team introduced themselves and then I gave the philosophy of why a Youth Group is needed even when we have a dynamic Catholic School where we want all of our parishioners’ children and many from outside our parish to attend. Basically, we promise to do all we can to help parents raise their children to be disciples of Jesus Christ. And, the school is a bridge to the parish; a great faith community of the students will be their school, but for Catholics, everything should lead us to and flow from our parish. So, we want them to feel connected and be an integral part of the parish so they know this is their faith community as well. Then parents enjoyed some good food and fellowship. The young people came back from their sessions, ate and we ended with about 10 minutes of praise and worship.
Because of our first pillar of hospitality, and the other pillars of prayer, formation and service, everyone who attends Sacred Heart School is invited to attend our Youth Group Sundays from 6:30-8pm. And, everyone who is in 6-12 grade who is a parishioner of St Vincent de Paul are welcome too. We start with the love and beauty of why the Commandments make so much sense for who we are and for who God created us to be. These are rather universal teachings all Christians can learn about together.
Wishing Mary a Happy Birthday!
Last Friday, September 8th, we celebrated Mary’s birthday with a beautiful white cake with blue sprinkles provided by our amazing Cafeteria Manager, Mrs. Betsy Gerke. All the students at Sacred Heart School had the opportunity to sing Happy Birthday to our Mother. Following what most scholars agree on, we were very happy to sing for her 2044th birthday and ended the singing saying “and infinite more” instead of “and many more” because we know she is in Heaven with her body and soul. Consequently, she keeps having more birthdays! Thank you, Mother, for your FIAT (Latin for “your will be done”) that initiated our Redemption.
Royal Flush – Restroom Reno FINAL Phase
In 2021, our Royal Flush renovation was our #1 priority and you answered the call! (Check out our Phase I and Phase II videos here and here.) The final phase of the Royal Flush is complete! The old JH bathrooms outside of the Hoying Gym were completely gutted to make way for a faculty/family restroom and storage.
Kyle Herrick ‘82, our Foundation president, was instrumental in raising funds for the campaign. He also put in hours of labor into seeing this multi-phase, multi-year project through to the end. Thank you, Kyle, and to everyone who supported the SHS Foundation and Royal Flush Campaign. Together, a major capital campaign moved from wish list to reality! Thank you, Royally!
Grandstand Update
Stay tuned! Next week we will know how much we earned from volunteering at the grandstand concessions during the Missouri State Fair. Annual Scholarship Breakfast – Friday, Sept. 15
Our Annual Scholarship Breakfast will be held in the McGremlin Gym on Friday, Sept. 15 from 8-9am. Why do we host this celebration? More than 90% of our families seek financial assistance to pay for their children to attend SHS. Financial support from St. Vincent de Paul and the SHS Foundation helps bridge the gap between what a family pays in tuition and the actual cost. Funding from the SHS Foundation also comes from families who have established named scholarships. Each year, leadership reviews the criteria of the scholarships and identifies SHS students to receive these scholarships.
Our scholarship breakfast is an opportunity to celebrate the students who were selected, to thank the donors, and to connect all involved on a more personal level.

Don’t forget we have several retailers ONLY available through the office (i.e. Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens, and VISA to name a few). Stop in at the school office on Tuesdays and Thursdays during our volunteer open hours from 9:00am – 11:00am for immediate purchases, or drop your order at the school office or email it to the program coordinator. Our volunteers will fill your order on Tuesdays and Thursdays and let you know when it’s available for pick-up. RaiseRight will not be at Sunday Masses this weekend. Queridas familias del Sagrado Corazón,
Todos hemos elegido enviar a nuestros hijos a la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón para recibir una educación basada en la fe centrada en la excelencia académica, el servicio y las actividades. Estamos muy agradecidos con todos los que apoyan a nuestra escuela financieramente y con su tiempo para garantizar que continúe por todo lo alto.
El bazar que está por venir y el clásico de golf son dos formas importantes de divertirse y al mismo tiempo apoyar a nuestra escuela. Si nunca has asistido a estos eventos, ¡este es el año al que debes ir! Las entradas del bazar para la cena y la subasta estarán disponibles durante cuatro días más. Este premio es para reconocer el esfuerzo y la contribución sobresalientes de nuestros maestros y personal, trabajando para hacer que nuestra escuela sea excelente para nuestros estudiantes. Para el premio inaugural, reconocemos a Teresa Dillon como la profesora/miembro del personal del mes de septiembre de 2023. Teresa se ha convertido en la cara sonriente de la escuela que saluda a todos los que cruzan la puerta. Examen de salud MU K-5
Mañana miércoles 13 de septiembre realizaremos exámenes de salud general a partir de las 8:30 am para nuestros estudiantes de kínder a quinto grado con la ayuda de los estudiantes de Pediatría de MU. Los exámenes consistirán en checar la audición, la visión y los signos vitales (es decir, presión arterial, peso y altura).

¿Sabía que la Subasta de Cena del Bazar no es sólo una GRAN recaudación de fondos para la parroquia, sino que también es un ENORME apoyo para la escuela? Sólo en los últimos dos años, la Subasta de Cena del Bazar de St. Vincent de Paul ha recaudado más de $100,000 para invertir en nuestra escuela. Este dinero se utilizó para hacer reparaciones en nuestra cafetería, la nueva estufa, el congelador/refrigerador y arreglar el techo y la pared trasera en la cocina/área de mantenimiento. Gracias a esta inversión monetaria del Bazar, la escuela pudo solucionar este importante problema estructural que había estado sucediendo durante años. Otra inversión importante de años anteriores fue el proyecto de reparar el patio de juegos para repavimentarlo y agregar nuevos equipos para nuestros estudiantes más jóvenes. Estas son sólo dos áreas en las que Bazaar ha apoyado a la escuela a lo largo de los años.

Noche de Grupo de jóvenes del domingo
El domingo pasado por la tarde, de 6:30 a 8:00 p. m., el equipo del grupo juvenil de 20 miembros invitó a estudiantes de 6.° a 12.° grado y a sus padres a un evento. Nos reunimos en la iglesia y a las 6:30 pm, Kevin Morales y Suzanne Peterson se presentaron y llevaron a los 20 estudiantes de secundaria al salón John Bosco, el salón en el tercer piso del Centro Parroquial. La sala es cómoda, con sofás y sillas grandes puestas para un gran debate y conversación. Luego, Liz Kehl y Donita Shipman se presentaron y llevaron a los estudiantes de 6.º a 8.º grado a la sala del segundo piso, la Sala Maria Gartetti, que está equipada con mesas redondas, un Smart Board TV y es versátil para debates y presentaciones. Los padres y miembros del equipo del grupo juvenil presentes fueron al Centro Parroquial. El equipo se presentó y luego les expliqué la filosofía de por qué es necesario un grupo de jóvenes incluso cuando tenemos una escuela Católica dinámica a la que queremos que asistan todos los hijos de nuestros feligreses y muchos de fuera de nuestra parroquia. Básicamente, prometemos hacer todo lo posible para ayudar a los padres a criar a sus hijos para que sean discípulos de Jesucristo. Y la escuela es un puente hacia la parroquia; una gran comunidad de fe de los estudiantes será su escuela, pero para los Católicos, todo debe llevarnos y fluir desde nuestra parroquia. Por eso, queremos que se sientan conectados y sean una parte integral de la parroquia para que sepan que esta también es su comunidad de fe. Luego los padres disfrutaron de buena comida y compañerismo. Los jóvenes regresaron de sus sesiones, comieron y terminamos con unos 10 minutos de alabanza y adoración.
Debido a nuestro primer pilar de hospitalidad y los otros pilares de oración, formación y servicio, todos los que asisten a la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón están invitados a asistir a nuestro grupo de jóvenes los domingos de 6:30 a 8 p.m. Y todos los que están en los grados 6-12 y son feligreses de San Vicente de Paúl también son bienvenidos. Comenzamos con el amor y la belleza de por qué los Mandamientos tienen tanto sentido para quiénes somos y para quién Dios nos creó. Estas son enseñanzas bastante universales que todos los cristianos pueden aprender juntos.

El viernes pasado, 8 de septiembre celebramos el cumpleaños de Maria con un hermoso pastel blanco con chispas azules proporcionado por nuestra increíble Gerente de Cafetería, la Sra. Betsy Gerke. Todos los alumnos del Colegio Sagrado Corazón tuvieron la oportunidad de cantarle Feliz Cumpleaños a nuestra Madre. Siguiendo lo que la mayoría de los estudiosos coinciden, estuvimos muy felices de cantarle su cumpleaños número 2044 y terminamos el canto diciendo “e infinito más” en lugar de “y muchos más” porque sabemos que ella está en el Cielo con su cuerpo y su alma. En consecuencia, ¡sigue teniendo más cumpleaños! Gracias Madre por tu FIAT (en latín “hágase tu voluntad”) que inició nuestra Redención.
Escalera Real – Baño Reno Fase FINAL
En 2021, nuestra renovación Royal Flush fue nuestra prioridad número uno y usted respondió a la llamada. (Vea nuestros videos de la Fase I y la Fase II aquí y aquí). ¡La fase final de la Escalera Real está completa! Los antiguos baños de JH fuera del gimnasio Hoying fueron completamente destruidos para dar paso a un baño y almacenamiento para profesores/familiares.
Kyle Herrick ’82, nuestro presidente de la Fundación, jugó un papel decisivo en la recaudación de fondos para la campaña. También dedicó horas de trabajo para llevar este proyecto de varias fases y varios años hasta el final. Gracias, Kyle, y a todos los que apoyaron la Fundación SHS y la Campaña Royal Flush. ¡Juntos, una importante campaña de capital pasó de la lista de deseos a la realidad! ¡Gracias, Royally!

Desayuno Anual de Becas – Viernes 15 de septiembre
Nuestro Desayuno Anual de Becas se llevará a cabo en el Gimnasio McGremlin el viernes 15 de septiembre de 8 a 9 am. ¿Por qué organizamos esta celebración? Más del 90% de nuestras familias buscan asistencia financiera para pagar la asistencia de sus hijos a SHS. El apoyo financiero de St. Vincent de Paul y la Fundación SHS ayuda a cerrar la brecha entre lo que una familia paga en matrícula y el costo real. Los fondos de la Fundación SHS también provienen de familias que han establecido becas designadas. Cada año, el liderazgo revisa los criterios de las becas e identifica a los estudiantes de SHS para recibir estas becas.

Nuestro próximo pedido interno de tarjetas de regalo físicas será el lunes 25 de septiembre. Todos los pedidos enviados a la oficina de la escuela antes del final de clases, o a través de la aplicación RaiseRight antes de las 8 p.m. del día 25, se incluirán en el pedido. Los pedidos deberían estar listos para ser recogidos la siguiente semana.

Visite la oficina de la escuela los martes y jueves durante nuestro horario de atención voluntaria de 9:00 a. m. a 11:00 a. m. para compras inmediatas, o deje su pedido en la oficina de la escuela o envíelo por correo electrónico al coordinador del programa. Nuestros voluntarios completarán su pedido los martes y jueves y le informarán cuando esté disponible para ser recogido. RaiseRight no estará en las misas dominicales este fin de semana.
