Good Afternoon All,

Please allow me to take this opportunity to congratulate Mrs. Nikki Howell on her appointment as Sacred Heart School President effective July 1, 2023!  In working with her for these past 6 years I have found her to be extremely bright and innovative.  Whether it be creating a first class school store, leading an active and engaged Student Council or developing a nationally award winning yearbook, her energetic and enthusiastic approach to education has made SHS a better place to work and learn.  Add this to an impressive background in the business world prior to coming to Sacred Heart and it makes her a great fit as the person to help lead the school into the next phase of our future!

Mrs. Howell will team up with Mrs. Van Leer to generate valuable and necessary resources that will allow Mrs. Manning to lead our faculty and staff in offering the best educational product possible grounded in a strong Catholic Christian setting.  I am so excited to see what the future holds for Sacred Heart School.  My wife Julie and I can’t wait to see our granddaughters here learning and growing as Sacred Heart School students.

I know you already have it on your calendars but please don’t forget that “The Halls Are Alive … With The Sound of Music!”  The Sacred Heart spring musical, The Sound of Music, takes the stage at the Hayden Liberty Center on Friday, March 24th and Saturday, March 25th. Doors open at 6:30pm. Curtains open at 7pm. Cost is $5 per ticket and they are available at the School Office or at the box office the night of the show.  Trust me this will be a can’t miss!

Senior Spotlight – CARSON BELL

Carson Bell is excited to head to the CDL Academy at State Fair Community College this Fall!  Carson says that his dad encouraged him down this path because he will have several opportunities open up and he will be able to find a job anywhere.  Carson says that he will keep his current part-time job at Wal-Mart and looks forward to seeing his friends around campus at SFCC.  Carson is also earning an A+ scholarship that he can use at SFCC!

Senior Mission Trip

From Tuesday, March 14th thru Saturday, March 18th, 21 seniors and 4 chaperones (Mrs Nau, Mrs Manning, Mr Gonzalez and Father Cesar) headed to southern Missouri for 5 days of mission work and fun.  Each day started out with mass by Father Cesar and ended with faith filled reflection and daily recap by our Faith Formation Director, Mr. Gonzalez.

The mission work centered around supporting Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri. The students scraped and painted the exterior of a house in Nixa.  Everyone worked diligently on the grounds of the LifeHouse Crisis Maternity Home in Springfield. Completing yard work which consisted of repairing fencing, raking leaves, weeding raised garden beds, sweeping and cleaning a gazebo and lawn furniture and chopping small pieces of lumber.  After cleaning out a shed of old paint and supplies, two truck loads of unwanted items were taken to the dumpster. Finally, kitchen supplies, clothing, outwear, and household items were organized and stored for those in need.

Believe it or not there was plenty of down time to visit Silver Dollar City, shop at Tanger Outlet Mall, zipline and climb at Fritz’s, virtual flying at Beyond the Lense, mini golf and go karts. Everyone enjoyed three meals dining out together: Lamberts, IHop, and Fritz’s burgers and pizza. The house that everyone stayed in allowed for several home cooked meals of breakfast casserole, taco bar, grilled burgers and hotdogs. Thank you to APC for an amazing breakfast after Mass on the 14th to get us on the road with a hearty meal under our belts. and the senior parents and Mrs. Nau who donated plenty of snacks and other food and drink items for the week. It was definitely a week full of fond memories.

FIT Week

 

The junior class participated in FIT (Forty-hour Internship Try-out) last week.  Several area businesses were gracious enough to offer their expertise to our students and let them job shadow!  As usual, these businesses went above and beyond in making our students feel welcome while learning a career that they are interested in post-high school.  A BIG thank-you to all of our amazing hosts this year!

MU Engineering Day

Sacred Heart Freshmen in Mrs. Hagebusch’s class traveled to MU on Thursday, March 16th, to check out the Engineering Departments and Teams. Every year, departments and research groups at MU open their labs to the public to showcase the innovation happening at Mizzou Engineering. Current Engineering students volunteer to present and give tours to grade schools, high schools, and other community members.

Sacred Heart students visited exhibits ranging from the development of Baja Racing cars to plastic valves and veins used in the transplants of hearts and kidneys. Students witnessed how liquid nitrogen could change the structure of items, turning a Twinkie and a rubber duck into flying frozen pieces.

The VR lab demonstrated how animations were made and they used a massage chair with VR simulation to calm and lower anxiety and stress. This was a favorite!

The 2-hour tour was full of information and the students came away with a new appreciation of engineers and the various careers and opportunities in the Engineering world.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone that participated in our Paid Dress Up Day. On this day each year, we remember and honor the life of Zach Parsons. Zach was a Sacred Heart junior at the time of his death. He held high standards and had goals in every area of his life, from how he treated others to how he chose to dress. “You look good; you do good,” he liked to say. Zach treated everyone with respect and kindness. On this anniversary, we asked that students dress up and stretch beyond their comfort zones to lift others up in respect and kindness.

We raised over $685 in total. All proceeds from this Dress UP Day will be matched by the Parsons Family and an anonymous donor to benefit Sacred Heart’s Fine Arts Program. Thank you for giving and acting generously in memory of Zach!

Becoming the Hands & Feet of Jesus

 

Throughout this year, Mrs. Fulcher’s Freshman Religion class has taken “being the hands and feet of Jesus” to heart every Friday, by serving others within SH school and the St. Vincent de Paul Parish. Each week the class has focused on different areas to target to intentionally act on who God has called them to be. Areas targeted are based on the student’s direct influence … week 1 — their peers, then their next largest area of influence – their church community, then their larger (actual) community, then unsung heroes (lunchroom ladies, Mr. Hammerly, principals, office staff etc. etc.), then those who serve our school (business office, rectory, reading lab, tech director etc.). The ultimate goal is putting their faith and calling as children of God into action, intentionally, to learn that even normal acts of help and service can show Jesus to people, sometimes it’s just giving someone a smile or an unexpected helping hand.

Last week, the class focused on helping Mrs. Diefendorf clean the parish’s flower beds in preparation for spring planting. The students brought rakes from home; and raked all the flower beds around Sacred Heart Chapel, the parish center, and the rectory. Students filled 11 black trash bags full of leaves and trash in freezing weather. The students have frequently commented in class, “Sometimes Jesus is uncomfy!” It is hard to go outside of your comfort zone, especially for someone you don’t know. Through this year, the students have learned that if you remember everything you do is for Jesus, it makes it worth the sacrifice, even if those you are serving are strangers.

RaiseRight Everyday All Your Sporting Needs

It’s that time of year; spring sports have STARTED!!  Just in time to get all your sporting gear. Dick’s Sporting Goods are now available as egift cards. This means you can go shopping without having to guess how much you will spend two weeks before making sure you have the physical gift cards you need. Now you can go shopping, purchase your egift card through the RaiseRight app as you are checking out, and then use the egift card to pay. Even better, you’ll earn an 8% rebate on your egift card!!! There is nothing better than being able to purchase egift cards on demand to pay for your purchases and earning rebates to offset your tuition at the same time. Now that’s a home run!!

Our next in-house order for physical gift cards will be Monday, March 27th. All orders submitted to the school office by the end of school, or through the RaiseRight app by 8pm, on the 27th will be included in the order. Orders should be ready for pick-up the following week.

Don’t forget we have several retailers ONLY available through the office (i.e. Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens, and VISA to name a few). Come in during our volunteer open hours on Tuesday & Thursday from 9:30am – 11am for immediate purchases, or drop your order at the office or email it to the program coordinator. Buenas tardes a todos,

¡Permítame aprovechar esta oportunidad para felicitar a la Sra. Nikki Howell por su nombramiento como presidenta de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón a partir del 1 de julio de 2023! Al trabajar con ella durante los últimos 6 años, descubrí que es extremadamente brillante e innovadora. Ya sea creando una tienda escolar de primera clase, liderando un consejo estudiantil activo y comprometido o desarrollando un anuario ganador de premios a nivel nacional, su enfoque enérgico y entusiasta de la educación ha hecho de SHS un mejor lugar para trabajar y aprender. ¡Agregue esto a una experiencia impresionante en el mundo de los negocios antes de venir al Sagrado Corazón y la convierte en una persona ideal para ayudar a llevar a la escuela a la siguiente fase de nuestro futuro!

La Sra. Howell se unirá a la Sra. Van Leer para generar recursos valiosos y necesarios que permitirán a la Sra. Enfoque al Senior – CARSON BELL

¡Carson Bell está emocionado de dirigirse a la Academia CDL en State Fair Community College este otoño! Carson dice que su padre lo animó a seguir este camino porque se le abrirán varias oportunidades y podrá encontrar trabajo en cualquier lugar. Carson dice que mantendrá su trabajo actual de medio tiempo en Wal-Mart y espera ver a sus amigos en el campus de SFCC. ¡Carson también está obteniendo una beca A+ que puede usar en SFCC!

Viaje misionero de alumnos de último año

Desde el martes 14 de marzo hasta el sábado 18 de marzo, 21 alumnos de duodécimo grado y 4 chaperones (Sra. Nau, Sra. Manning, Sr. González y Padre Cesar) se dirigieron al sur de Missouri para 5 días de trabajo misionero y diversión. Cada día comenzó con una misa a cargo del Padre César y terminó con una reflexión llena de fe y un resumen diario por parte de nuestro Director de Formación en la Fe, el Sr. González.

El trabajo misionero se centró en apoyar a Caridades Católicas del Sur de Missouri. Los estudiantes rasparon y pintaron el exterior de una casa en Nixa. Todos trabajaron diligentemente en los terrenos de LifeHouse Crisis Maternity Home en Springfield. Terminar el trabajo de jardinería que consistió en reparar cercas, rastrillar hojas, desmalezar camas elevadas de jardín, barrer y limpiar una glorieta y muebles de jardín y cortar pequeños trozos de madera. Después de limpiar un cobertizo de pintura vieja y suministros, dos camiones cargados de artículos no deseados fueron llevados al basurero. Finalmente, se organizaron y almacenaron artículos de cocina, ropa y artículos para el hogar para los necesitados.

Lo crea o no, hubo mucho tiempo de inactividad para visitar Silver Dollar City, comprar en Tanger Outlet Mall, tirolesa y escalar en Fritz’s, vuelo virtual en Beyond the Lense, minigolf y karts. Todos disfrutaron de tres comidas de restaurante cenando juntos: hamburguesas y pizza de Lamberts, IHop y Fritz’s. La casa en la que todos se quedaron permitió varias comidas caseras de cazuela de desayuno, barra de tacos, hamburguesas a la parrilla y perritos calientes. Gracias a APC por un increíble desayuno después de la Misa el día 14 para ponernos en camino con una abundante comida en nuestra barriga. y los padres de los seniors y la Sra. Nau que donaron muchos bocadillos y otros alimentos y bebidas para la semana. Definitivamente fue una semana llena de gratos recuerdos.

Semana FIT

La clase de undécimo grado participó en FIT (prueba de pasantía de cuarenta horas) la semana pasada. ¡Varias empresas del área tuvieron la amabilidad de ofrecer su experiencia a nuestros estudiantes y permitirles observar el trabajo! Como de costumbre, estos negocios hicieron todo lo posible para que nuestros estudiantes se sintieran bienvenidos mientras aprendían una carrera que les interesaba después de la escuela preparatoria. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS a todos nuestros increíbles anfitriones este año!

Día de la Ingeniería en MU

Los estudiantes de noveno grado del Sagrado Corazón  en la clase de la Sra. Hagebusch viajaron a MU el jueves 16 de marzo para ver los departamentos y equipos de ingeniería. Cada año, los departamentos y grupos de investigación de MU abren sus laboratorios al público para mostrar la innovación que ocurre en Mizzou Engineering. Los estudiantes actuales de Ingeniería se ofrecen como voluntarios para presentar y dar recorridos a las escuelas primarias, preparatorias y otros miembros de la comunidad.

Los estudiantes del Sagrado Corazón visitaron exhibiciones que van desde el desarrollo de autos de Baja Racing hasta válvulas y venas de plástico utilizadas en los trasplantes de corazones y riñones. Los estudiantes fueron testigos de cómo el nitrógeno líquido podía cambiar la estructura de los artículos, convirtiendo un Twinkie y un patito de goma en pedazos voladores congelados.

El laboratorio de realidad virtual demostró cómo se hicieron las animaciones y usaron un sillón de masaje con simulación de realidad virtual para calmar y reducir la ansiedad y el estrés. ¡Este era un favorito!

El recorrido de 2 horas estuvo lleno de información y los estudiantes salieron con una nueva apreciación de los ingenieros y las diversas carreras y oportunidades en el mundo de la ingeniería.

Estamos increíblemente agradecidos con todos los que participaron en nuestro Paid Dress UP Day. Cada año, en este día, recordamos y honramos la vida de Zach Parsons. Zach era un estudiante de undécimo grado del Sagrado Corazón en el momento de su muerte. Tenía altos estándares y metas en cada área de su vida, desde cómo trataba a los demás hasta cómo elegía vestirse. “Te ves bien; haces bien”, le gustaba decir. Zach trató a todos con respeto y amabilidad. En este aniversario, les pedimos a los estudiantes que se vistan bien y se esfuercen más allá de sus zonas de comodidad para animar a los demás con respeto y amabilidad.

Recaudamos más de $685 en total. Todas las ganancias de este Dress UP Day serán igualadas por la familia Parsons y un donante anónimo para beneficiar el Programa de Bellas Artes del Sagrado Corazón. ¡Gracias por dar y actuar generosamente en memoria de Zach!

Convertirse en las manos y los pies de Jesús

 

A lo largo de este año, la clase de Religión de noveno grado de la Sra. Fulcher se ha tomado muy en serio “ser las manos y los pies de Jesús” todos los viernes, sirviendo a otros dentro de la escuela SH y la parroquia de San Vicente de Paul. Cada semana, la clase se ha centrado en diferentes áreas a las que apuntar para actuar intencionalmente sobre lo que Dios les ha llamado a ser. Las áreas enfocadas se basan en la influencia directa del estudiante… semana 1: sus compañeros, luego su siguiente área de influencia más grande: la comunidad de su iglesia, luego su comunidad más grande (real), luego los héroes anónimos (las señoras del comedor, el Sr. Hammerly, directores, personal de oficina, etc., etc.), luego aquellos que sirven a nuestra escuela (oficina comercial, rectoría, laboratorio de lectura, director técnico, etc.). El objetivo final es poner en acción su fe y su llamado como hijos de Dios, intencionalmente, para aprender que incluso los actos normales de ayuda y servicio pueden mostrar a Jesús a las personas, a veces es solo darle a alguien una sonrisa o una mano amiga inesperada.

La semana pasada, la clase se centró en ayudar a la Sra. Diefendorf a limpiar los macizos de flores de la parroquia en preparación para la siembra de primavera. Los estudiantes trajeron rastrillos de casa; y rastrillaron todos los macizos de flores alrededor de la Capilla del Sagrado Corazón, el centro parroquial y la rectoría. Los estudiantes llenaron 11 bolsas de basura negras llenas de hojas y basura en un clima helado. Los estudiantes han comentado con frecuencia en clase, “¡A veces Jesús está incómodo!” Es difícil salir de tu zona de confort, especialmente para alguien que no conoces. A lo largo de este año, los estudiantes han aprendido que si recuerdas que todo lo que haces es para Jesús, el sacrificio vale la pena, incluso si aquellos a quienes estás sirviendo son extraños.
