Greetings and Happy Friday Everyone!
One week from tomorrow we will be kicking off our Sacred Heart School Foundation’s Annual Fund Drive with the “Battle of the Brains” event. Here are a few Fun Facts to get you into the spirit of this festive adult-only event.
Fun Fact: The solar array, LED lighting throughout campus, gym dimmers, PK playground equipment, restroom renovations, window signage and housing demos are just a few recent capital improvements made possible through gifts to our SHS Foundation.
Fun Fact: The SHS Foundation was established in 1979 with the singular mission of generating financial support for SHS. The foundation is, in many ways, the financial lifeblood of the school. The donations given to our foundation are invested. Each year, the foundation gives 5% of the investment corpus and 50% of the Annual Fund Drive proceeds in the form of need-based student scholarships. Named scholarships managed by the foundation are also awarded each year.
Fun Fact: Hundreds of supporters give to the SHS Foundation each year because they believe in what we are doing here and they recognize that a tremendous amount of commitment and sacrifice go into advancing quality Catholic education at SHS.
Fun Fact: The Battle of the Brains trivia night is our night to celebrate what we’ve been able to accomplish together and to get excited about our 2023 Annual Fund Drive.

Prepare for Lent With Fasting
Last week we reflected on the importance of prayer as an essential component of Chirstian life and a fruitful preparation for Lent. Another complementary way to prepare for Lent is by fasting, which means giving up some comfort or adopting some spiritual practice that leads to self-examination, repentance from sin, and, ultimately, renewal of the soul, all in anticipation of greater dedication to serving God and others. I like to compare this to the sacrifices we all make to stay healthy, whether we change our diet, try to have a more active life, avoid harmful practices, etc. If we do all that for our bodies, shouldn’t it be normal to do the same for our souls? As you consider what you might fast from this Lent, take these few ideas as a starting point to brainstorm: fasting from meat on Fridays, giving up complaining and replacing those comments with kind words, fasting from social media, and using that time to read the Bible instead. This “giving up and adopting” does not need to be something huge but something that helps us get closer to god. Step by step, if we persevere, we can go long distances.

WINTER SPORTS SENIOR NIGHT
Please join us Tuesday, February 14th to celebrate our seniors that participate in swim team, basketball and cheer! The Gremlins will host the LaMonte Vikings, starting at 5:30pm with 2 qtrs of JV followed by Varsity girls then Varsity boys! The Pep band will be performing, the cheer team has some special routines between quarters and we will honor the seniors at the conclusion of the girls game!
KAYSINGER YOUTH SPORTS REP
In the Kaysinger conference we have the wonderful opportunity to offer youth sports. Through this group we are able to offer Volleyball, Basketball, Softball and Baseball for elementary students.
We are seeking a new town rep for the 23-24 school years. This is a volunteer position. The town rep is responsible for attending the Kaysinger Youth Sports meetings and facilitating registration, team division and coordinating with the other town reps on the schedule.

One idea … purchase a $5 or $10 gift card for McD and leave it at the library for someone to find, or leave it at the drive-thru window to help pay for the vehicle behind you in line. Another idea is to pick a random vehicle at school, or even at Mass, and leave a gift card under their windshield wiper. There are so many opportunities to use RaiseRight to spread kindness throughout our community and bring light to someone’s day!!
Our next in house order for physical gift cards will be Monday, February 13th. All orders submitted to the school office by the end of school, or through the RaiseRight app by 8pm, on the 13th will be included in the order. Orders should be ready for pick-up the following week.
Don’t forget we have several retailers ONLY available through the office (i.e. Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens, and VISA to name a few). Come in during our volunteer open hours on Tuesday & Thursday from 9:30am – 11am for immediate purchases, or drop your order at the office or email it to the program coordinator. Saludos y feliz viernes a todos!
Una semana a partir de mañana daremos inicio a la colecta anual de fondos de la Fundación de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón con el evento “Batalla de cerebros”. Aquí hay algunos datos divertidos para sumergirte en el espíritu de este evento festivo solo para adultos.
Dato curioso: el panel solar, la iluminación LED en todo el campus, los atenuadores del gimnasio, el equipo de juegos de PK, las renovaciones de los baños, la señalización de las ventanas y las demostraciones de viviendas son solo algunas de las mejoras de capital recientes que fueron posibles gracias a las donaciones a nuestra Fundación SHS.
Dato curioso: La Fundación SHS se estableció en 1979 con la singular misión de generar apoyo financiero para SHS. La fundación es, en muchos sentidos, el alma financiera de la escuela. Las donaciones entregadas a nuestra fundación son invertidas. Cada año, la fundación otorga el 5% del corpus de inversión y el 50% de los ingresos de la campaña anual de fondos en forma de becas para estudiantes basadas en las necesidades. Prepárese para la Cuaresma con ayuno
La semana pasada reflexionamos sobre la importancia de la oración como componente esencial de la vida cristiana y preparación fructífera para la Cuaresma. Otra forma complementaria de prepararse para la Cuaresma es el ayuno, lo que significa renunciar a algún consuelo o adoptar alguna práctica espiritual que lleve al autoexamen, al arrepentimiento del pecado y, en última instancia, a la renovación del alma, todo en previsión de una mayor dedicación al servicio. Dios y los demás. Me gusta comparar esto con los sacrificios que todos hacemos para mantenernos saludables, ya sea que cambiemos nuestra dieta, tratemos de tener una vida más activa, evitemos prácticas nocivas, etc. Si hacemos todo eso por nuestro cuerpo, ¿no debería ser normal? hacer lo mismo por nuestras almas? Mientras considera lo que podría ayunar de esta Cuaresma, tome estas pocas ideas como punto de partida para una lluvia de ideas: ayunar de la carne los viernes, dejar de quejarse y reemplazar esos comentarios con palabras amables, ayunar de las redes sociales y usar ese tiempo para leer la Biblia en su lugar. Este “renunciar y adoptar” no tiene por qué ser algo enorme sino algo que nos ayude a acercarnos a Dios. Paso a paso, si perseveramos, podemos llegar lejos.

Noche de alumnos de duodécimo grado de los deportes de invierno

Estamos buscando un nuevo representante de la ciudad para los años escolares 23-24. Este es un trabajo voluntario. El representante de la ciudad es responsable de asistir a las reuniones de deportes juveniles de Kaysinger y facilitar el registro, la división del equipos y la coordinación con los otros representantes de la ciudad en el calendario.

¡No solo se acerca el Día de San Valentín la próxima semana, sino que también es la Semana de Actos de Bondad! Recuerde que tenemos varias tarjetas de baja denominación disponibles que son excelentes para compartir amabilidad donde quiera que vaya. Es una gran oportunidad para enseñar a nuestros hijos acerca de la amabilidad sin otra razón que la de ser amables. Una idea… puede obtener una tarjeta de regalo de $5 o $10 para McD y dejarla en la biblioteca para que alguien la encuentre, o dejarla en la ventanilla del autoservicio para ayudar a pagar el vehículo detrás de usted en la fila. Otra idea es elegir un vehículo al azar en la escuela, o incluso en Misa, y dejar una tarjeta de regalo debajo del limpiaparabrisas. ¡Hay tantas oportunidades para usar RaiseRight para difundir la bondad en nuestra comunidad y alegrar el día de alguien!
Nuestro próximo pedido interno de tarjetas de regalo físicas será el lunes 13 de febrero. Todos los pedidos enviados a la oficina de la escuela antes del final de la escuela, o a través de la aplicación RaiseRight antes de las 8:00 pm del día 13, se incluirán en el pedido. Los pedidos deben estar listos para ser recogidos la semana siguiente.
No olvide que tenemos varios minoristas SOLO disponibles a través de la oficina (es decir, Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens y VISA, por nombrar algunos). Acérquese durante nuestro horario de voluntariado los martes y jueves de 9:30 am a 11:00 am para compras inmediatas, o deje su pedido en la oficina o envíelo por correo electrónico a scrip@gogremlins.com. Nuestros voluntarios llenarán su pedido y le avisarán cuando esté disponible para recogerlo. RaiseRight no estará en las Misas este fin de semana. Reunión de APC la próxima semana
Únase a nosotros el próximo viernes 17 de febrero a las 8:00 am en el Centro Parroquial para nuestra próxima reunión de APC. Los temas a discutir son las solicitudes de los maestros para el musical de primavera y la planificación de un evento social familiar que se llevará a cabo a principios de la primavera. Necesitamos sus ideas!! Todos los padres de la escuela son bienvenidos a asistir. ¡¡Esperamos verlos!!
