Happy Tuesday! We have made it through the first three weeks of school! I am so proud to be a part of the Gremlin family and very thankful for how each and every one of you have welcomed me and my family to Sacred Heart! In all my education experience, as a student and as a teacher, I have never felt so “at home” in a school as I do at SH! I just wanted to say thank you and introduce myself a little bit.
I have three children, Brooklyn (3), Braden (11), and Triston (16). Triston and Braden are attending SH this year and have been welcomed with open arms! They are currently participating in soccer, and hope to also participate in basketball and baseball. They are absolutely thriving here and it makes me wonder why I waited so long to become a part of this family!! Brooklyn has a lot of special needs, so she started school at the Co-op this year. Her favorite past-time is to watch her big brothers play sports, so you will see a lot of her!
This year marks my 11th year in education. The past 10 years, I have been teaching math from grades 6 through college level. I graduated from SFCC in 2008 with an associate’s degree, transferred to Missouri Valley College where I cheered competitively and graduated with my bachelor’s in mathematics in 2010. After teaching for a couple years, I completed my master’s in secondary math education from WGU in 2013. And most recently, I was conferred my doctoral degree in curriculum and iInstruction in November 2021. I am passionate about mathematics, curriculum, and providing instructional support to fellow teachers.
As the Dean of Students, my job has many facets; supporting teachers, supporting students, and upholding the rules and regulations in place at Sacred Heart School. Although student discipline is a large part of my job, I want to get to know ALL the amazing students that walk these halls! Coming to see me is not always a bad thing; my door is always open and I want to hear about all the awesome things my students are doing!
This year has already been one of the best I’ve had in my career, and I hope it continues to get even better! I look forward to all of the exciting things coming up, like Homecoming and the Bazaar, and I can’t wait to see what great things this year holds!

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
From Our Faith Formation Director, Jose Maria Gonzalez
On September 15th, Hispanic Heritage Month will start, giving us yet another opportunity to recognize and celebrate the Hispanic culture and families that make up an important fiber of the fabric of our society. Hispanic families make up the majority of the Catholic population under 30 years old in our country and we wouldn’t want to be left out of this joyful celebration of multiculturalism, hospitality, and Catholicity.
This year, Sacred Heart will continue celebrating Hipanic Heritage Month by celebrating bilingual masses, praying in Spanish with the whole school community, celebrating the different Hispanic nationalities that are represented by our families and students, and creating the first ever group of Sacred Heart Madrinas.
The Sacred Heart Madrinas group takes its name from the Spanish word for ‘godmother’ and consists of Hispanic parents who, through their advice, endorsement, and presence in the life of the school, help us better serve this important community of our Catholic church and school. They will bring ideas, experiences, comments, projects, etc., to the table so the school can better serve the Hispanic community, alongside our continued commitment to our non-Hispanic families.
As Director of Faith Formation, and in my additional capacity as the Latino Enrollment Coordinator, I have been contacting our Hispanic parents to invite them to be part of this amazing team that will help us make the school experience better everyday, for all of our students and families.

Our Scholarship Breakfast will be held in the McGremlin Gym on Wednesday, Sept. 14, immediately following Mass. Why do we host this celebration? More than 90% of our families seek financial assistance to pay for their children to attend SHS. Financial support from St. Vincent de Paul and the SHS Foundation helps bridge the gap between what a family pays in tuition and the actual cost. Funding from the SHS Foundation also comes from families who have established named scholarships. Each year, leadership reviews the criteria of the scholarships and identifies SHS students to receive these scholarships.
Our scholarship breakfast is an opportunity to celebrate the students who were selected, to thank the donors, and to connect all involved on a more personal level.

Sacred Heart School is seeking nominations of outstanding groups and individuals to be inducted into its 2023 Sacred Heart School Hall of Fame. Anyone is eligible to submit nominations to the SHS Hall of Fame. Nomination forms must be completed and returned by Sept. 30, 2022. Many special events will take place this evening including a performance by the Sacred Heart High School Choir, a PINK spaghetti dinner, pink t-shirts for purchase, Pray for Coen bracelets, and a 50/50 raffle.

DEVON GROSE MEMORIAL SOCCER GAME – – – COMING TONIGHT!
Sacred Heart School, along with the family and friends of Devon Grose, invite you to attend The Devon Grose Memorial game THIS COMING TUESDAY at Clover Dell Park. This celebration of life is in conjunction with the boys’ soccer conference game between Sacred Heart and the Smithton Tigers. Varsity will play at 5pm followed by JV (if there are enough players for a JV game).
Shirts can be purchased for $15. Enjoy a delicious meal for $10. (Age 5 and under are free). Proceeds from the shirts and meals will benefit the Devon Grose Memorial Scholarship. Shirts and meals will be available for pick up that evening.
Devon’s family established the Devon Grose Memorial game following a tragic accident that took Devon’s life in 2016. Devon attended SHS from kindergarten through high school, graduating in 2015.
We will be recognizing the coaches, players and parents from the SH Soccer Team of Fall 2014 at halftime of the varsity game. All those connected with the 2014 team will be admitted for free as guests of the school. It should be a wonderful evening, great high school soccer action supporting an important cause!

RaiseRight Raise Days COMING SOON
If you missed out on the Back to School Bonus Rebate Sale, you are in luck!! RaiseRight will have Raise Days (formerly known as ThankScriping Days) on next week on September 15th & 16th. Our next in house bulk order for physical gift cards is Monday, September 12th. All orders submitted to the school office by the end of school, or through the RaiseRight app by 8pm, on the 12th will be included in the order. Orders should be ready for pick-up the following week. In the next few weeks we will be implementing some small procedural changes to the RaiseRight program. Keep an eye out for additional information in the Beat as we finalize the details.

¡Feliz martes! ¡Hemos superado las primeras tres semanas de clases! ¡Estoy muy orgullosa de ser parte de la familia Gremlin y muy agradecida por cómo todos y cada uno de ustedes nos han dado la bienvenida a mí y a mi familia al Sagrado Corazón! En toda mi experiencia educativa, como estudiante y como profesora, ¡nunca me había sentido tan “en casa” en una escuela como en Sagrado Corazón! Solo quería darles las gracias y presentarme un poco.
Tengo tres hijos, Brooklyn (3), Braden (11) y Triston (16). ¡Triston y Braden asistirán a Sagrado Corazón este año y han sido recibidos con los brazos abiertos! Actualmente están participando en fútbol y esperan participar también en baloncesto y béisbol. ¡Están absolutamente prosperando aquí y me pregunto por qué esperé tanto para convertirme en parte de esta familia! Brooklyn tiene muchas necesidades especiales, por lo que comenzó la escuela en la Cooperativa este año. Su pasatiempo favorito es ver a sus hermanos mayores practicar deportes, ¡así que la verán mucho!
Este año marca mi undécimo año en educación. Los últimos 10 años, he estado enseñando matemáticas desde el grado 6 hasta el nivel universitario. Me gradué de SFCC en 2008 con un título de asociado, me trasladé a Missouri Valley College, donde fui porrista competitiva y me gradué con mi licenciatura en matemáticas en 2010. Después de enseñar durante un par de años, completé mi maestría en educación matemática secundaria de WGU en 2013. Y más recientemente, obtuve mi doctorado en currículo e instrucción en noviembre de 2021. Me apasionan las matemáticas, el currículo y brindar apoyo instructivo a otros maestros.
Como Decano de Estudiantes, mi trabajo tiene muchas facetas; apoyando a los maestros, apoyando a los estudiantes y manteniendo las reglas y regulaciones vigentes en la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón. Aunque la disciplina de los estudiantes es una gran parte de mi trabajo, ¡quiero conocer a TODOS los increíbles estudiantes que caminan por estos pasillos! Venir a verme no siempre es algo malo; ¡Mi puerta siempre está abierta y quiero escuchar todas las cosas maravillosas que están haciendo mis estudiantes!
Este año ya ha sido uno de los mejores que he tenido en mi carrera, ¡y espero que siga mejorando! ¡Espero con ansias todas las cosas emocionantes que se avecinan, como Homecoming y Bazaar, y no puedo esperar a ver qué grandes cosas nos depara este año!

Celebrando el Mes de la Herencia Hispana
El 15 de septiembre comenzará el Mes de la Herencia Hispana, dándonos otra oportunidad más para reconocer y celebrar la cultura y las familias hispanas que constituyen una fibra importante del tejido de nuestra sociedad. Las familias hispanas constituyen la mayoría de la población católica menor de 30 años en nuestro país y no queremos quedarnos fuera de esta alegre celebración de multiculturalismo, hospitalidad y catolicidad.
Este año, el Sagrado Corazón continuará celebrando el Mes de la Herencia Hispana celebrando misas bilingües, orando en español con toda la comunidad escolar, celebrando las diferentes nacionalidades hispanas que están representadas por nuestras familias y estudiantes, y creando el primer grupo de Madrinas del Sagrado Corazón.
El grupo de Madrinas del Sagrado Corazón toma su nombre de la palabra española para ‘madrina’ y estará compuesto por padres hispanos que, a través de su consejo, respaldo y presencia en la vida de la escuela, nos ayudan a servir mejor a esta importante comunidad de nuestra iglesia católica y escuela. Traerán ideas, experiencias, comentarios, proyectos, etc., para que la escuela pueda servir mejor a la comunidad hispana, junto con nuestro compromiso continuo con nuestras familias no hispanas.
Como director de Formación en la Fe, y en mi capacidad adicional como coordinador de inscripción latina, me he estado comunicando con nuestros padres hispanos para invitarlos a formar parte de este increíble equipo que nos ayudará a mejorar la experiencia escolar todos los días para todos nuestros estudiantes. y familias

Nuestro desayuno de becas se llevará a cabo en el gimnasio McGremlin el miércoles 14 de septiembre, inmediatamente después de la misa. ¿Por qué organizamos esta celebración? Más del 90% de nuestras familias buscan asistencia financiera para pagar la asistencia de sus hijos al SHS. El apoyo financiero de San Vicente de Paul y la Fundación SHS ayuda a cerrar la brecha entre lo que una familia paga en colegiatura y el costo real. La financiación de la Fundación SHS también proviene de familias que han establecido becas con nombre. Cada año, el liderazgo revisa los criterios de las becas e identifica a los estudiantes de SHS para recibir estas becas.
Nuestro desayuno de becas es una oportunidad para celebrar a los estudiantes que fueron seleccionados, agradecer a los donantes y conectar a todos los involucrados en un nivel más personal.

Juego de fútbol DEVON GROSE MEMORIAL – – – ¡Esta noche!
