Greetings everyone,
We are two weeks into the new school year and it has been a great start. Welcome again to all new students, families, and teachers. It is exciting to have you as an intrical part of the Sacred Heart family. We are blessed to have returning families back on campus as well.
I would like to reshare a little background information about my career in education and what led to being principal at SHS. I attended, and graduated from, St. George Catholic grade school in Herman, MO. After graduating from Herman High School I went on to the University of Central Missouri and earned a Bachelors of Science in Education degree with teaching certification in Vocational Home Economics and Health Education 7 – 12. Shortly thereafter I completed a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
My teaching career began at the Sedalia Middle School where I taught for two years. From there I was offered the opportunity to begin a Family Consumer Science program in the Sweet Springs school district. Family life then took me to Warrensburg where I served the last 25 years of my public school career in the Warrensburg district. I have been very active in FCCLA over the years establishing strong organizations and programs in the schools and serving on the state level as well.
Upon retirement from the public education system, I actively researched how I might be able to contribute to Catholic Education, specifically at Sacred Heart School. My family has been a part of SHS in a variety of ways since 2014. Currently, our youngest son is a Junior at SH and has been here since 3rd grade. Our daughter attended three years of junior high here and my husband was the administrator at SH for three years. I have always felt a calling to serve and seek employment at SHS.
I view my role as principal as one who provides a positive school climate, supportive of teachers and students, and models Christian attitudes inside and outside of the school day. This will be a challenging position, however I continue to feel blessed to have the role of instructional leadership in a school that has a long history of preparing children well for college and for life in general.
Reflecting on the past two weeks I find myself asking the question: what is grace? Throughout our lives we are faced with challenges in the areas of relationships and communication. Incorporating grace into our lives may be difficult, however if we allow grace we give ourselves the opportunity to forgive one another and grow as an individual. Further we conclude that we are all human and mistakes will be made. No one is perfect. Allowing grace will hopefully help keep our relationship with God and others fulfilled and our lives being more positive. How do each of us include grace in our daily lives? What are the benefits of a grace filled life?

Memorial Service for children who died by Abortion at Sacred Heart Chapel
This Saturday, pro-life Americans throughout the country will gather at the gravesites of children who died by abortion and other memorial sites dedicated in their honor for the tenth annual National Day of Remembrance.

Together let us remember the victims of abortion and pray for a final end to this injustice in our land during the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children.
Usher/Greeter Training
After all Masses there will be a training session for ushers and greeters. This is such a wonderful opportunity to welcome fellow parishioners to Mass like we do when we enter the school at the beginning of the school day. If you and your family are interested, please join us after Masses this weekend.
Looking for a way to involve prayer in your busy life?
If you are, this month’s Tap Into Faith is a must attend. We will gather at the Sacred Heart Parish Center (next to the chapel) at 6:30pm on Thursday, September 15th. Bring some snacks and your favorite beverage.
Altar Server Training
Next week we will begin training for altar servers. This will be for Catholic students in 3-8 grades. Students will be taught the role of a server, go through what is expected of them during Mass and given a booklet on serving. This will be done during school hours.
Exaltation of the Cross
On Wednesday, September 14, the Church will celebrate “The Exaltation of the Holy Cross” with an All-School bi-lingual Mass beginning at 8:30am. “Being Christian”, Pope Benedict XVI wrote, “is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event”. In the Gospel the liturgy offers us on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross suggests that God wants to enter into a relationship of love with everyone. Prayers for Coen
Prayers from every corner of the world help to give Coen strength and courage on this oh-so-challenging journey. He needs them. He feels them. His family needs them and feels them and they mean much more than words can say.
The latest update from the family as of Sept. 3:
“This week we received hard news that Coen’s white blood cell count dropped to level 10 (it needed to be up to a 50). This canceled some family plans to visit with aunts, uncles, and cousins because of the extreme risk of infection. Struggling with losing his hair, Coen decided to shave his head this week. Also, There is an excruciating pain in his foot that will not subside. Even with medicine, this is the focus of Coen’s continuing pain. We also received news his next chemo round will be September 14 and this treatment will focus on attacking his cancer and building back up good bone marrow (his levels now are extremely low). It will be a vigorous process.”

Youth Basketball Camp Benefit for Coen Brown
The youth basketball camp at Windsor High School is this Sunday September 11. This is for boys and girls grades 3-9. All benefits go to the Brown Family. Individuals pay a $10 entry fee. Please see Emily Hesse or Emma Siron if you have questions.
Last week, students and staff participated in the Yearbook Signing party during Homeroom. Mrs. Howell and her yearbook staff were excited to celebrate in the dedication of the first place, nationally ranking, 2021-2022 yearbook to Mrs. Debbie Bolin! There are still some yearbooks left; if you forgot to order or did not receive yours, please call the office.

Altering hair color is against the SHS student appearance code policy. This includes peek a boo hair coloring and coloring of the ends or tips of hair. If you have any questions or need further clarification see Dr. Burdick or Mrs. Manning.

Skirts and Shorts must be no more than 5” above the knee when kneeling. Shorts are NOT to be rolled. To provide adequate time to order skirts, we will begin assigning fines on 9/19 for any students not in compliance with the length requirement.
Tuesday 9/13 is Paid Dress Down Day for ALL GRADES! Students must donate a minimum of $1 to dress down. Homeroom teachers will collect the donations and make note of students who did not pay. Those students are expected to be in full uniform all day.
Just a reminder of the expectations for paid dress day:

Students may wear shirts with print/pictures as long as there is no profanity, sexually suggestive theme, rude or disrespectful theme, or the promotion of the use of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco. Shirts must have a conservative neckline, midriffs/shoulders must be covered. Shirts must be long enough to cover the midriff when arms are extended upward. Sleeveless shirts or dresses, tank tops, spaghetti straps, and tops with revealing necklines or those that allow undergarments to be visible are not permitted. Shirts should not be longer than the student’s shorts.

All pants & jeans & shorts are to be neat and clean with no rips, holes, or frays.

Pajama pants, leggings, yoga pants, tight athletic pants, and spandex/spanx like material are not permitted.

All shorts or skirts/skorts/dresses (girls only) may be no more than 5” from the top of the knee.

Footwear that is sturdy closed-toe/closed-heeled is required. Sandals and crocs of any fashion are not permitted (including during warm-weather season and out of uniform days). Regulations for footwear remain the same as on regular dress code days.

Students are expected to be in modest and appropriate attire on non-uniform days.
Thursday 9/15 is PICTURE DAY!
Our Scholarship Breakfast will be held in the McGremlin Gym on Wednesday, Sept. 14, immediately following Mass. Why do we host this celebration? More than 90% of our families seek financial assistance to pay for their children to attend SHS. Financial support from St. Vincent de Paul and the SHS Foundation helps bridge the gap between what a family pays in tuition and the actual cost. Funding from the SHS Foundation also comes from families who have established named scholarships. Each year, leadership reviews the criteria of the scholarships and identifies SHS students to receive these scholarships.
Our scholarship breakfast is an opportunity to celebrate the students who were selected, to thank the donors, and to connect all involved on a more personal level.

DEVON GROSE MEMORIAL SOCCER GAME – – – COMING THIS TUESDAY!
Sacred Heart School, along with the family and friends of Devon Grose, invite you to attend The Devon Grose Memorial game THIS COMING TUESDAY at Clover Dell Park. This celebration of life is in conjunction with the boys’ soccer conference game between Sacred Heart and the Smithton Tigers. Varsity will play at 5pm followed by JV (if there are enough players for a JV game).
Shirts can be purchased for $15. Enjoy a delicious meal for $10. (Age 5 and under are free). Proceeds from the shirts and meals will benefit the Devon Grose Memorial Scholarship. Shirts and meals will be available for pick up that evening.
Devon’s family established the Devon Grose Memorial game following a tragic accident that took Devon’s life in 2016. Devon attended SHS from kindergarten through high school, graduating in 2015.
We will be recognizing the coaches, players and parents from the SH Soccer Team of Fall 2014 at halftime of the varsity game. All those connected with the 2014 team will be admitted for free as guests of the school. It should be a wonderful evening, great high school soccer action supporting an important cause!

Saludos a todos,
Estamos a dos semanas del nuevo año escolar y ha sido un gran comienzo. Bienvenidos nuevamente a todos los nuevos estudiantes, familias y maestros. Es emocionante tenerte como parte integral de la familia del Sagrado Corazón. Tenemos la suerte de tener familias que regresan al campus también.
Me gustaría volver a compartir un poco de información básica sobre mi carrera en educación y lo que me llevó a ser directora de SHS. Asistí y me gradué de la escuela primaria St. George Catholic en Herman, MO. Después de graduarme de Herman High School, fui a la Universidad de Central Missouri y obtuve una Licenciatura en Ciencias en Educación con certificación de enseñanza en Economía Doméstica Vocacional y Educación para la Salud 7 – 12. Poco después completé una Maestría en Currículo e Instrucción.
Mi carrera docente comenzó en la Escuela Secundaria Sedalia, donde enseñé durante dos años. A partir de ahí, me ofrecieron la oportunidad de comenzar un programa de Ciencias del Consumidor Familiar en el distrito escolar de Sweet Springs. Luego, la vida familiar me llevó a Warrensburg, donde serví los últimos 25 años de mi carrera en la escuela pública en el distrito de Warrensburg. He estado muy activa en FCCLA a lo largo de los años estableciendo organizaciones y programas sólidos en las escuelas y sirviendo también a nivel estatal.

Entrenamiento de ujieres/saludadores
Después de todas las Misas habrá una sesión de entrenamiento para ujieres y saludadores. Esta es una oportunidad maravillosa para dar la bienvenida a mis feligreses a misa como lo hacemos cuando entramos a la escuela al comienzo del día escolar. Si usted y su familia están interesados, únase a nosotros después de las Misas este fin de semana.

Si es así, debe asistir al Toque de fe de este mes. Nos reuniremos en el Centro Parroquial Sagrado Corazón (junto a la capilla) a las 6:30 pm el jueves 15 de septiembre. Traiga algunos bocadillos y su bebida favorita.
Capacitación de monaguillos
La próxima semana comenzaremos a entrenar a los monaguillos. Esto será para estudiantes católicos en los grados 3-8. A los estudiantes se les enseñará el papel de un servidor, revisarán lo que se espera de ellos durante la Misa y se les entregará un folleto sobre cómo servir. Esto se hará durante el horario escolar.
Exaltación de la Cruz
El miércoles 14 de septiembre, la Iglesia celebrará “La Exaltación de la Santa Cruz” con una misa bilingüe para toda la escuela a partir de las 8:30 am. “Ser cristiano”, escribió el Papa Benedicto XVI, “no es el resultado de una elección ética o de una idea elevada, sino del encuentro con un acontecimiento”. En el Evangelio la liturgia que nos ofrece en la Fiesta de la Exaltación de la Santa Cruz sugiere que Dios quiere entrar en una relación de amor con todos. Oraciones para Coen
Las oraciones de todos los rincones del mundo ayudan a darle fuerza y coraje a Coen en este viaje tan desafiante. Él los necesita. Él los siente. Su familia los necesita y los siente y significan mucho más de lo que las palabras pueden expresar.
La última actualización de la familia a partir del 3 de septiembre:
“Esta semana recibimos la dura noticia de que el recuento de glóbulos blancos de Coen bajó al nivel 10 (debía llegar a 50). Esto canceló algunos planes familiares para visitar a tías, tíos y primos debido al riesgo extremo de infección. Luchando por perder su cabello, Coen decidió afeitarse la cabeza esta semana. Además, hay un dolor insoportable en su pie que no desaparece. Incluso con medicamentos, este es el foco del dolor continuo de Coen. También recibimos noticias de su próxima quimioterapia. La ronda será el 14 de septiembre y este tratamiento se centrará en atacar su cáncer y reconstruir una buena médula ósea (sus niveles ahora son extremadamente bajos). Será un proceso vigoroso”.

Nuestro desayuno de becas se llevará a cabo en el gimnasio McGremlin el miércoles 14 de septiembre, inmediatamente después de la misa. ¿Por qué organizamos esta celebración? Más del 90% de nuestras familias buscan asistencia financiera para pagar la asistencia de sus hijos al SHS. El apoyo financiero de San Vicente de Paul y la Fundación SHS ayuda a cerrar la brecha entre lo que una familia paga en colegiatura y el costo real. La financiación de la Fundación SHS también proviene de familias que han establecido becas con nombre. Nuestro desayuno de becas es una oportunidad para celebrar a los estudiantes que fueron seleccionados, agradecer a los donantes y conectar a todos los involucrados en un nivel más personal.

Nominaciones para el Salón de la fama – vencen el 30 de septiembre
La Escuela del Sagrado Corazón está buscando nominaciones de grupos e individuos destacados para ser admitidos en su Salón de la Fama de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón de 2023. Cualquier persona es elegible para presentar nominaciones al Salón de la Fama de SHS. Los formularios de nominación deben completarse y devolverse antes del 30 de septiembre de 2022. Juego de fútbol DEVON GROSE MEMORIAL – – – ¡Este martes!
Finalmente, la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón, junto con la familia y los amigos de Devon Grose, lo invitan a asistir al juego The Devon Grose Memorial este martes en Clover Dell Park. Esta celebración de la vida se lleva a cabo en conjunción con el partido de conferencia de fútbol masculino entre el Sagrado Corazón y los Tigres de Smithton. Varsity jugará a las 5:00 pm. seguido de JV (si hay suficientes jugadores para un juego de JV).
Las camisas se pueden comprar por $15. Disfrute de una deliciosa comida por $10. (Los menores de 5 años entran gratis). Las ganancias de las camisetas y las comidas beneficiarán a la Beca Conmemorativa Devon Grose. Camisas y comidas estarán disponibles para recoger esa noche.
La familia de Devon estableció el juego Devon Grose Memorial luego de un trágico accidente que le quitó la vida a Devon en 2016. Devon asistió a la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón desde el kindergarten hasta la escuela preparatoria y se graduó en 2015.
Estaremos reconociendo a los entrenadores, jugadores y padres del equipo de fútbol SH de otoño de 2014 en el medio tiempo del juego varsity. Todos aquellos relacionados con el equipo de 2014 serán admitidos gratuitamente como invitados de la escuela. ¡Debería ser una noche maravillosa, una gran acción de fútbol de la escuela preparatoria apoyando una causa importante!

Los días de aumento de RaiseRight llegarán pronto
Si se perdio la oferta de reembolso de bonificación de regreso a clases, ¡está de suerte! RaiseRight tendrá los Raise Days (anteriormente conocidos como ThankScriping Days) el 15 y 16 de septiembre. Esta venta de reembolso adicional sólo está disponible a través de la aplicación RaiseRight para tarjetas de regalo electrónicas y recargables. Si aún no ha configurado su cuenta en línea, ¡no es demasiado tarde! Nuestro próximo pedido masivo interno de tarjetas de regalo físicas es el lunes 12 de septiembre. Todos los pedidos enviados a la oficina de la escuela antes del final de la escuela, o a través de la aplicación RaiseRight antes de las 8:00 pm. del día 12, se incluirán en el pedido. Actualmente estamos buscando un conductor de eventos para atletismo y actividades. También estamos buscando un conductor sustituto para la ruta diaria de Warrensburg. El pago es de $13.50 por hora. ¡Después de una pausa de dos años debido a Covid, la parte del día de diversión familiar de este emocionante evento está de vuelta! Planee unirse a nosotros en el Sedalia Country Club el lunes 26 de septiembre y sea parte de nuestra celebración anual. Estamos ofreciendo comida y juegos GRATIS a partir de las 4:00 pm. como parte de nuestro 12.º Clásico Anual de Golf.
Todavía estamos aceptando equipos para la parte de golf del evento también.
