The Sacred Heart Beat – Wednesday, November 24

Wednesday, November 24

Good Afternoon Everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope the Thanksgiving holiday is joyous and peaceful for you and your family.  We look forward to closing the semester on a high note when we get back on the 29th.  Please encourage your child to prepare well and do all they can to be successful on their end of semester assignments, projects and exams!

Winter extracurricular activities are off to a good start.  The varsity boys basketball team is 2-0 with wins over a couple of good Class 3 programs in Russellville and St. Paul’s Lutheran.  The girls lost their opener last night in a well played game with the St. Paul’s Lutheran Saints out of Concordia.  Both teams travel to Columbia tonight to take on the Christian Fellowship Knights before taking a few days off for Thanksgiving break.

The speech team has had a couple of meets so far as well.  Last night in the first phase of the Kaysinger Conference meet Sophomore Mariah Van Leer placed 1st in Humorous Interpretation and freshman Sophie Anderson brought home the 2nd place medal in Storytelling!

Please take a look below in the ‘Athletics’ section below for the full list of post season honors and wrap up of the fall seasons!

Don’t forget: The enrollment process for 2022-2023 has begun. The FACTS Application window for 2022-2023 school year opened November 1.  Please contact Mrs. Pyle in the finance department or Mrs. Manning in the main office for assistance in getting this process started for your family.

Once again, please have a blessed and joyous Thanksgiving holiday!

Students Return from NCYC – A Note from Debbie Bolin, Campus Minister

Our students returned from NCYC. We thank everyone for keeping them in their prayers. Come Holy Spirit fill the hearts of your people!  On November 19, at The National Catholic Youth Conference our topic was The Sacrament of Baptism. Love flowing through our veins! God is always calling us by name. As we watched a family be baptized into the church. We remembered one even closer to home. As our Church was being renovated in 2010, I set up a baptismal font in the middle of the gym with beautiful plants, a small wading pool and a fountain for these children to be baptized. It was such a special time for this family as well as our student body to experience this transformation as the children came out of the locker room dressed in their dazzling white outfits. I felt the Holy Spirit then and I know he is with us today as two of those three children are with me right now at NCYC. Abby, Claire and Eli Smeltzer were baptized on Friday, May 14th, 2010. Claire is now 18 and Eli is 17.

What a blessing it has been watching these children grow up in Sacred Heart School and continue their journey in faith. “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and enkindle them in the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit and they will renew the face of the earth.

Preschool Parking Lot

Another significant campus improvement took place last week. The preschool parking lot needed attention, and it indeed received quite the transformation. Thank you to the Sacred Heart Foundation board for approving this capital improvement and to all our Foundation donors who made this happen.

Reaching our Foundation Annual Fund Drive Goal makes improvements like this (and the bathrooms, playground equipment, and student scholarships) possible.

We’re halfway toward our goal of $250,000.

Several generous donors will match your gift up to $75,000, making your gift go even further!

STUCO FOOD DRIVE A SMASHING SUCCESS!

A charitable heart and a competitive drive to win the spirit stick helped SHS collect its largest food donation in the history of the school’s Thanksgiving food drive. “Cases, not cans” was the challenge, and students in grades K-12 responded. SHS student leaders, faculty, and parents delivered a total of 10,828 pounds (that’s over five tons!) of food to Open Door Ministries. That beats last year’s record of 7,272 pounds. All food stays local to support our neighbors in need. The big picture and the big winner is our community.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the Annual Food Drive.  The food drive is part of our spirit stick competition for the high school. Congratulations to all of our classes. The total weight is divided by the number of students in the class to provide their placing.
4th Place – Juniors – 12 pounds of food per student

3rd Place – Freshman – 25 pounds of food per student

2nd Place – Seniors – 48 pounds of food per student

1st Place – Sophomores – 316 pounds of food per student
