Good Afternoon Everyone!
Thanks to everyone who came in and helped make yesterday’s Open House event a success. The enthusiasm for a new school year was running high and we cannot wait to get started tomorrow.
We are welcoming several new faculty members this year. They have been introduced in the SH Beat over the summer but it would seem particularly appropriate to introduce them and welcome them again today.
Mr. Jose Maria Gonzalez
Mr. Gonzalez is serving as our assistant principal and he will be teaching 6th grade and 8th-grade mathematics. Mr. Gonzalez is extensively featured in this week’s Catholic Missourian, dated August 20, 2021. The article is titled, “New Administrators: Driven to lead young people to Christ.” You can find the Catholic Missourian online at cathmo.com and the article begins on page 13.
Mrs. Jennifer Walker
Mrs. Jennifer Walker is teaming up with Mrs. Sobaski to offer two sections of first grade. Mrs. Walker is a 1992 graduate of SHS. She returns to SHS with 22 years of teaching experience in early childhood education. She spent the last 15 years teaching in the Morgan County R-1 School District in Stover, Missouri. Mrs. Walker and her husband, Mark, are members of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. Their two children, Nolan ’19 and Natalie ’22 have attended SHS since kindergarten.
Ms. Rachel Newkirk
Ms. Newkirk is teaching 2nd grade this year. She is in her first year teaching and is bringing tremendous energy and enthusiasm to her classroom.
Mrs. Nancy Manning
Mrs. Manning recently retired from a successful teaching career in the Warrensburg school district. She is working in the front office as the secretary receptionist this year and teaching one period of Family and Consumer Science as a high school elective.
Mrs. Jacqueline Nehring
Mrs. Nehring is a first-year teacher coming to us from the business world. She will be teaching Art to students in K – 12 this year. Even though she has big shoes to fill she is excited to get started and will offer our students a great deal of talent and enthusiasm.
Mrs. Tanya Blades-Reed
Mrs. Reed will be teaching secondary and dual credit Science. She brings experience from the collegiate level and promises to be a great asset in getting our children prepared for post-secondary classwork.
Ms. Jena Sterret
Ms. Sterrit holds teaching certifications in both English and Spanish. She will be teaching Spanish this year from elementary through high school.
Ms. Chelsea Turner
Ms. Turner will be teaching high school English at Sacred Heart this year. She will also coach the speech team and partner with Mr. Hartman to direct the Spring Musical.
Mrs. Lisa YonceMrs. Yonce is not new but will be moving up from assistant band director to taking over the program full time. She brings a wealth of talent and experience and we are thrilled to have her in charge of our band students.
What Happens if…..
A number of parents and teachers asked a similar question yesterday at Open House. The question was, “What happens if a student will not follow the mask mandate?” While I do not expect this to be an issue because Sacred Heart students are traditionally respectful of authority and the guidelines set forth, I thought it would be fair to address the question here.

If a student comes to school without a mask they will gently and respectfully have one provided to them.

If they were to decline to wear the mask during the times prescribed by the school policy they will be gently and respectfully escorted to the nurse’s office to wait while the administration contacts their parents to come to pick them up.
Again, I do not foresee this being an issue. Our kids are terrific and we are all anxiously seeking that light at the end of the tunnel where we can move beyond Covid restrictions and function safely together in a happy and healthy environment.

Another Prayer for Back to School
Lord Jesus, I ask for Your help as I begin this new school year. Allow me to experience Your presence in the many blessings You put before me. Open my eyes to the new challenges and exciting opportunities that this new school year brings. Open my heart and mind to new friends and new teachers. Give me a generous spirit to be enthusiastic with my studies and courage to accept new opportunities. Help me to be attentive to my teachers and let me experience Your presence in my new friends. Jesus, inspire me to do my best this year! Amen
We can’t wait to start school with you again tomorrow and look forward to praying with our second through twelfth grade students at Mass. What a great way to start this amazing year the Lord has planned for us and is going to lead us through, as he does every year!
We priests know it will get more coverage in the Beat, but we too want to extend our thanks to all who worked at the concession stands. We also offer gratitude for those who helped us so we could offer Masses to the campers and fair workers and for those of you who spent time promoting the sanctity of life while at the state fair. Thank you for your incredible teamwork to serve, celebrate the mass and promote life!
We just want to remind everyone that during the year of St. Joseph, Pope Francis has also asked us to focus on ministering to families. So, over the past several months, we have been looking at papal documents that assist and support families: The background to Theology of the Body, Humanae Vitae, Familiaris Consortio and A Letter to Families by Pope John Paul II. We will continue to offer more of these at our Tap Into Faith sessions as the Year of St. Joseph continues. Thanks to everyone who has taken the opportunity to attend “live” or to watch them on our parish Facebook or YOUTube channel. We hope they have been helpful. If so, invite others to attend with you.
Last weekend at Mass, we concluded six weeks of the “Bread of Life Discourses” found in the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John. Please read John chapter 6 this week. Spend some family prayer time reading it, praying over it and discussing it.
First Day of School
We are looking forward to the new school year and especially the first day of school, which is just around the corner, on Wednesday, August 25. All parents can park and bring their child to their classroom for the first day of school provided they follow Covid protocols. All visitors, parents, students, and our staff who come into the building are expected to properly wear their masks. We highly encourage and celebrate families keeping with the tradition of taking outside pictures in various locations around our beautiful campus. Remember to keep Third Street in front of the school clear for the drop-off line.
Active Parent’s Club (APC) will be serving coffee in the Sacred Heart Parish Center. All parents are welcome to attend after they have dropped off their child, prior to mass for the first day of school.

¡Buenas tardes a todos!
Gracias a todos los que vinieron y ayudaron a hacer que el evento de open house del día de ayer fuera un éxito. El entusiasmo por un nuevo año escolar es muy grande y estamos ansiosos por comenzar el día de mañana.
Damos la bienvenida a varios miembros nuevos de la facultad este año. Los hemos presentado en el SH Beat durante el verano pero es particularmente apropiado presentarlos y darles la bienvenida nuevamente el día hoy.
Sr. Jose Maria Gonzalez
El Sr. Gonzalez se desempeña como nuestro subdirector y estará enseñando matemáticas a sexto y octavo grado. El Sr. Gonzalez aparece ampliamente en el Catholic Missourian de esta semana, con fecha del 20 de agosto de 2021. Sra. Jennifer Walker

La Sra. Yonce no es nueva en la escuela pero pasará de ser asistente del Director de la Banda Escolar a dirigirla de tiempo completo. Tiene mucho talento y experiencia y estamos encantados de tenerla a cargo de nuestros estudiantes de banda.
Que pasaría si …..
Muchos padres de familia y maestros hicieron la misma pregunta durante el open house. La pregunta fue “¿qué pasaría si los estudiantes no siguen la regla de usar cubrebocas?” Aunque espero que este no sea un gran problema porque los estudiantes del Sagrado Corazón son muy respetuosos a las reglas y lineamientos establecidos en la escuela. Creo que sería conveniente responder esas preguntas aquí.

Si los estudiantes llegan a la escuela sin cubrebocas, con gentileza y respeto se les proporcionará uno.

Si los estudiantes se oponen a usar el cubrebocas mientras sea recomendado por los lineamientos de la escuela, se llevará a los estudiantes a la oficina de la enfermera donde tendrán que esperar a que la administración se comunique con sus padres para que los recojan de la escuela.
Les reitero que no creo que esto vaya a ser un problema. Nuestros niños son geniales y todos buscamos ansiosamente esa luz al final del túnel donde podamos movernos más allá de las restricciones de covid y funcionar juntos de forma segura en un entorno feliz y saludable.
Como siempre, la administración, los pastores y el personal de la escuela del Sagrado Corazón están listos para ayudarle a usted y su familia. Estamos ansiosos por ayudar en todo lo que podamos para lograr un año escolar lo más feliz, seguro y productivo posible.
También le pedimos que siga acompañando al Obispo McKnight en sus oraciones del mes de agosto para nuestras iglesias locales.

Otra oración para el regreso a la escuela
Señor Jesus, pido tu ayuda al comienzo de este nuevo año escolar. Permíteme experimentar tu presencia en las muchas bendiciones que me diste. Abre mis ojos ante los nuevos desafíos y oportunidades emocionantes que trae este nuevo año escolar. Abre mi corazón y mente a nuevas amistades y maestros. Dame un espíritu generoso para entusiasmarme con mis estudios y para aceptar nuevas oportunidades. Ayúdame a estar atento a mis profesores y déjame experimentar tu presencia en mis nuevos amigos. Jesús, ¡inspírame a dar lo mejor de mí este año! Amén
Estamos ansiosos por comenzar la escuela el día de mañana y de poder orar con nuestros estudiantes de segundo a doceavo grado en misa el día de mañana. Que gran manera de comenzar este año increíble que el Señor ha planeado para nosotros y nos guiará como lo hace todos los años.
Los Sacerdotes sabemos que tendrán más cobertura en el Beat, pero queremos agradecer a todos los que trabajaron en los puestos de concesión. También queremos agradecer a todos los que hicieron posible que pudiéramos ofrecer Misa a los visitantes y trabajadores de la feria y para aquellos que pasaron tiempo promoviendo la santidad de la vida mientras estaban en la feria estatal.
Queremos recordarles que durante el año de San José, el Papa Francisco nos ha pedido que nos enfoquemos en ministrar a las familias. Por lo tanto, durante los próximos meses hemos estado examinando documentos papales que ayudan a las familias: Los antecedentes de la Teología del cuerpo, Humanae Vitae, Familiariz Consortio y Una Carta a las Familias por el Papa Juan Pablo Segundo. Seguiremos ofreciendo más de estos en las sesiones de Tap Into Faith a medida que vaya avanzando el año de San José. Gracias a todos los que los han visto en “vivo” o a través del canal de YouTube de la parroquia. Esperamos que hayan sido de gran ayuda. Y si es así inviten a otras personas a verlo con ustedes.
El fin de semana pasado concluimos las seis semanas de “ discursos de pan de vida” que se encuentra en el sexto capítulo del evangelio de San Juan. Esta semana, favor de leer el libro de San Juan capítulo seis. Tomen un tiempo con su familia para leerlo, orar, y hablar sobre él.
Primer Día De Clases
Este miércoles 25 de agosto, esperamos un nuevo año escolar y especialmente el primer día de clases que está a la vuelta de la esquina. Todos los padres de familia se pueden estacionar y entrar a dejar a su hijo en su salón el primer día de clases, siempre y cuando sigan los protocolos para covid. Todos los visitantes, padres de familia, estudiantes y los maestros deberán utilizar cubrebocas para poder entrar al edificio. Invitamos y celebramos a las familias que mantienen la tradición de tomar fotografías fuera de nuestro hermoso edificio. Recuerde dejar libre la línea de 3rd street para dejar a los estudiantes.
El Club de Padres Activos (APC por sus siglas en inglés) estará sirviendo café en el centro parroquial. Todos los padres de familia están invitados a asistir después de que dejen a sus hijos y antes de la Misa del primer día de clase.
