Greetings SHS and Happy Friday!
I am starting my section of the Beat today with a huge thank you to the generous folks at Wilson, Toellner and Associates. They made a terrific donation of office furniture to the school this summer. It was a wonderful upgrade for several of our offices and teachers.
Beginning on Monday, the furniture that has been rotated out of classrooms and offices will be on display in the Hoying Gym workout space. It is free for the taking. Please come in and take a look. If you see something you can use please feel free to take it with you!
Watch for Tuesday’s Beat. We will be releasing the school’s reopening plan in regard to Covid safety protocols. The plan was worked through at the School Advisory Council on Wednesday and we will put finishing touches on the plan with input from a variety of sources on Monday. No matter what else, rest assured that we will always do our very best to address the safety of our students, faculty, and staff, keep our students in the seats and the school open. It remains a very difficult situation and one in which we will NEVER be able to please everyone. Pray for us!

Grandstand Concession Volunteers: It takes all of us.

Ever heard that expression, “I won’t ask you to do something I won’t do myself?” Fr Joe will be working the grandstands concessions tonight, Sunday night and next Friday, too. Fr Dave will also be working shifts during the fair. However… I often ask people to do things I am not capable of doing. If I could do everything, where would the need for volunteers and paid staff be? Oh, and I would be God… and I am not God.
So, while nothing I ask of others is beneath me doing (probably what that sentiment means) there are lots of skills and talents I do not have that many of you have. So, let’s work together to get all the Lord is asking us to do to build up his kingdom here in Sedalia, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish and at Sacred Heart School! Thanks to all of you who show up and pitch in so often. You are appreciated!
Feast of the Assumption of Mary, body and soul taken into Heaven
This Feast, a Holy Day of Obligation that is elevated higher than a Sunday in Ordinary Time is celebrated this weekend. This Feast with its definition of the dogma was given to the whole Catholic Church on November 1, 1950 by Pope Pius XII. The belief that Mary, Mother of God was taken into Heaven, body and soul has been believed since the times of the apostles. The Feast is celebrated in late summer as the fruits of the land are coming into harvest to remind us that Mary, the highest of creation, is raised up as well. Things to do along with attending Mass as a family, is to bless the produce from your garden by giving thanks to God for the bountiful harvest.

Remember, everyone is welcome (parishioners and non-parishioners) to have their family portraits taken as we create our first St Vincent de Paul Pictorial Directory. These directories are so helpful for staff and all parishioners to recognize names and faces. Each family will receive a free 8×10.

Classroom assignments and schedules can be viewed on your FACTS Family Portal. If you need a hard copy, feel free to stop by the office. Junior High and High School Locker assignments will be posted at the office, as well as on the third floor.
Mrs. Smothers will be available in the health office (2nd floor) to answer health questions and/or sign up for Before/After school care.
Parents who have not completed their VIRTUS Training will be requested to go to the Computer Lab to complete this requirement.
The School Store will be open to purchase uniforms and Gremlin Gear. 2020-2021 High School yearbooks will also be available to pick up.
Other booths will be available to visit to gather information on APC, Booster Club, Volunteer opportunities.

Need uniforms? We have the best deal in town. Each gently used item is $5 or you can buy one item, get one free. We have 100’s of gently used uniforms in stock.
We have lots of options for Spirit Dress Days. This year they will occur on the second and fourth Mondays, unless otherwise noted. On Spirit Dress Days, students may wear school appropriate denim with a Gremlin Gear or a plain t-shirt of the appropriate uniform colors (PK-8: Red/White, 9-12: Red/White/Navy). If the top is not a Gremlin or Sacred Heart top there should be no other writing on it.
Ready to go shopping? Just stop by the office on Monday-Friday from 8am-noon or schedule an appointment with Mrs. Howell (nhowell@gogremlins.com).

Our next in house order will be Tuesday, August 24th. Any orders submitted to the school office by the end of the open house event or through the RaiseRight App on Monday, August 23rd will be included in the order. All orders submitted should be ready for pick-up by Monday, August 30th.

The Sacred Gremlins are wrapping up their first week of official practices and the Junior High Gremlins will start official practices on Monday, August 16th!
Pre Season competition is in place for Varsity Soccer and Volleyball.

Varsity Soccer will kick off its pre-season by hosting a Jamboree at Clover Dell on Saturday, August 21st. The first game will be at 10:00am on field 1 vs St. Pauls, 11:00am vs Knob Noster, 12:00 vs Lone Jack!

Varsity Volleyball will travel to Hickman to kick off their pre- season with a Jamboree. They will take on Blair Oaks at 6:00pm, Hickman at 6:30pm then St. Paul Lutheran at 7:00pm.

Varsity Football will open their season on the road at Braymer on Friday, August 27th, game time is 7:00pm

Varsity Soccer will open their season with the SC Shootout starting on Friday, August 27th at the Smith-Cotton Tiger Stadium, game time is at 5:00pm vs Willard.

Varsity Cross Country is entering their inaugural season, their first meet will be Saturday, August 28th in Warrensburg.

Varsity Volleyball will open their season at home on Monday, August 30th hosting Marshall, JV will start at 5:30.

Varsity Girls Golf will open their season at home with a Tri taking on Cole Camp and Green Ridge at the Sedalia CountryClub on Tuesday, August 31st, tee time is 4:00pm.

JH Soccer will start their season by hosting the Gremlin Invitational at Clover Dell Park on September 10th & 11th. The first game for the gremlins will be Friday night at 5:00 against Smithton.

JH Volleyball will kick off their season on the road at Otterville on Tuesday, September 14th with a start time of 5:00pm.

JH Football will kick off their season at home on Monday, September 13th against Sweet Springs with Malta Bend at Northwest High School, game start time is 5:30pm.

Hoy comienzo mi sección del Beat con un enorme agradecimiento a la generosa gente de Wilson, Toellner and Associates. Quienes este verano hicieron una excelente donación de muebles de oficina a la escuela. Fue una mejora maravillosa para varias de nuestras oficinas y profesores.
A partir del lunes, los muebles que han sido rotados fuera de las aulas y oficinas estarán en exhibición en el espacio de entrenamiento del Gimnasio Hoying. Puede tomarlos gratuitamente. Entre y eche un vistazo. Si ve algo que pueda usar, no dude en llevárselo.

Alguna vez escuchó la expresión, “No te pediré que hagas algo que no haré yo mismo? El Padre Joe estará trabajando en las concesiones de las tribunas esta noche, el domingo por la noche y también el próximo viernes. El Padre Dave también trabajará turnos durante la feria. Sin embargo… a menudo le pido a la gente que haga cosas que yo no soy capaz de hacer. Si pudiera hacer todo, ¿dónde estaría la necesidad de voluntarios y personal remunerado? Oh, sería Dios y no soy Dios.
Entonces, aunque nada de lo que les pido a los demás está por debajo de mí (probablemente lo que significa ese sentimiento), hay muchas habilidades y talentos que no tengo y muchos de ustedes tienen. ¡Trabajemos juntos para conseguir todo lo que el Señor nos pide que hagamos para construir su reino aquí en Sedalia, en la Parroquia de San Vicente de Paul y la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón! Fiesta de la Asunción de María, en cuerpo y alma llevados al Cielo.
Esta fiesta, un día Santo de Obligación que se eleva por encima de un Domingo Ordinario, se celebra este fin de semana. Esta fiesta con su definición del dogma fue dada a toda la Iglesia Católica el 1 de noviembre de 1950 por el Papa Pío XII. La creencia que María, Madre de Dios fue llevada al cielo, en cuerpo y alma, se ha creído desde tiempos de los apóstoles. La Fiesta se celebra a finales del verano cuando los frutos de la tierra están llegando a la cosecha para recordarnos que María, la máxima creación también ha resucitado. Las cosas que se pueden hacer además de asistir a misa en familia, es bendecir los productos de su jardín, dando gracias a Dios por la abundante cosecha.

Las asignaciones y los horarios del salón de clases se pueden ver en su Portal Familiar de FACTS. Si necesita una copia impresa, no dude en pasar a la oficina. La asignación de casilleros de Junior High y High School se publicará en la oficina así como en el tercer piso.

Fútbol Soccer Categoría Varsity comenzará su pretemporada el domingo 21 de agosto, llevando a cabo un Jamboree en Clover Dell. El primer juego será a las 10:00 am en el campo 1 vs St. Pauls, 11:00 am vs Knob Noster, 12:00 vs Lone Jack.
