Greetings All & Happy Friday!
Please allow me to begin today by congratulating Mrs. Dove, Ms. Kramer and our kindergarten students. The May Crowning that they celebrated with us at Mass on Wednesday has become one of the most beautiful and special events of the school year. This year was no exception. The children did a fantastic job and the celebration was both prayerful and moving. Well done little ones!
Today I am excited to announce the hiring of our new Assistant Principal for the 2021-2022 school year. As most everyone knows by now Mr. Jones will be leaving us at the end of the school year and filling his shoes will be no small task. With that being said I am pleased to announce Mr. Jose Maria Gonzalez as the Assistant Principal for next school year.
Mr. Gonzalez holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science with the equivalent of a Master’s in Transportation and Logistics. This summer he will be completing an additional Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Iowa. He began a career in civil engineering in 2014, but since 2017 he has been teaching mathematics and physics along with a number of religion courses at the secondary level.
We welcome Mr. Gonzalez and his wife Sarah to the Sedalia community and the Sacred Heart family. In the weeks to come I will be sharing more about Mr. Gonzalez and all of our new hires for the 2021-2022 school year.

Message From the Pastors
Happy Mother’s Day Weekend! I hope this is a beautiful weekend for many of you celebrating your mom (you!) Our Sacred Heart School is blessed to have so many great moms working and volunteering alongside one another to make our school community all that it can be. We know we have not seen our parents inside the school as much as we like this year, but with God’s help that will be different next academic year. Here, I just want to say what a great job our kindergarten teachers and helpers did with leading their students through a prayerful May Crowning of Mary. As brothers and sisters of Jesus, Mary is our Mother, too! Know of the priests’ prayers or all of you on this Mother’s Day Weekend. We will also keep those of you who are struggling, for whatever reason, with this holiday, that you may find peace and comfort.
May is Mental Health Month. Please check out a video on Formed that shows how spirituality and mental health work together. We always invite you to join Formed to see an entire Library dedicated to authentic Catholic teaching. Since our parish has a subscription, visit formed.org, click sign up, then sign up as parishioner, type St. Vincent de Paul, Sedalia and select it and fill in the remaining information. As we celebrate National Nurses Week, we want to send a special thank you to our school nurse, Celinda Smothers, and to all of our nurses in our school and parish families! Thank you for all you do to keep us healthy and bring us back to health!
Bishop McKnight will be here to offer the sacrament of Confirmation to our St Vincent de Paul parishioners during Mass at 2pm Sunday May 16th McGremlin Gym. Several of the students of Sacred Heart School will be confirmed at this ceremony! Please continue to pray for them at this milestone in their faith development and for continued growth in their spiritual lives.

Senior Celebrations
Melody Mertes
Melody will be attending State Fair Community College. She plans to take some college courses over the summer to check off as many general education requirements as she can before August. These classes, along with those dual credit hours acquired at SH, will leave her with approximately one year of classes at State Fair to complete all of her general education requirements. Upon accomplishing this, she will then attend Newman University in Wichita, to major in business. Melody’s interest in business was sparked by her accompanying mom to work on “take your daughter to work day” over the years. She is not exactly sure what aspect of business, but likes that the field incorporates numerous possibilities! Melody is a self-proclaimed “homebody”, aware that it will be difficult to move out when the time comes. She did plan wisely though if she is unable to make the drive home, she does have extended family that lives in Wichita.

All classes for students in grades 6-12 will have second semester cumulative finals. Here is the schedule.
Reminder to All Families
We only have a few short weeks left in this school year. Please check the FACTS Family Portal to make sure that all charges have been paid by May 28th so that you can receive your student’s grade card.
GREMMY Awards / HS Spring Concert
The annual Gremmy Awards / High School Spring Concert will take place on Wednesday, May 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the SHS McGremlin Gym.
Sacred Heart High School Choir and Band will both be featured at the ceremony. Awards will also be given. The highlight of the evening is when the cast of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown will reunite to sing the closing number Happiness.
Please plan to attend and support our Sacred Heart Fine Arts Program. We will practice social distancing and wear masks when appropriate.

¡Saludos a Todos y Feliz Viernes!
Permítame comenzar hoy felicitando a la Sra. Dove, la Srita. Kramer y a nuestros estudiantes de kindergarten. La Coronación de Mayo que celebraron con nosotros en la misa del miércoles se ha convertido en uno de los eventos más hermosos y especiales del año escolar. Este año no fue la excepción. Los niños hicieron un trabajo fantástico y la celebración fue a la vez conmovedora y llena de oración. ¡Bien hecho pequeños!
El día de hoy me complace anunciar la contratación de nuestro nuevo Subdirector para el año escolar 2021-2022. Como casi todos saben, el Sr. Jones nos dejará al final del año escolar y llenar sus zapatos no será una tarea sencilla. Con esto dicho, me complace anunciar que el Sr. Jose Maria Gonzalez es el Subdirector para el próximo año escolar.
El Sr. Gonzales tiene una Licenciatura en Ciencias de la Ingeniería con el equivalente a una Maestría en Transportación y Logística. Este verano finalizará una Maestría adicional en Liderazgo Educativo de la Universidad de Iowa. En el 2014, comenzó una carrera en ingeniería civil pero desde el 2017 ha estado enseñando matemáticas y física junto con un una serie de cursos de religión a nivel secundaria.
Le damos la bienvenida al Sr. Gonzales y a su esposa Sarah a la comunidad de Sedalia y a la familia del Sagrado Corazón. En las próximas semanas estaré compartiendo más sobre el Sr. Gonzalez y todo el personal nuevo para el año escolar 2021-2022.

Mensaje de los Pastores
¡Feliz fin de semana del día de las Madres! Espero que este sea un hermoso fin de semana para muchos de ustedes celebrando a su mamá (¡usted!). Nuestra Escuela del Sagrado Corazón tiene la bendición de tener muchas mamás maravillosas que trabajan y se ofrecen como voluntarias para juntas hacer de nuestra comunidad escolar todo lo que puede ser. Sabemos que este año no hemos visto a nuestros padres de familia dentro de la escuela tanto como nos gustaría pero con la ayuda de Dios esto será diferente el próximo año escolar. Aquí sólo quiero resaltar el gran trabajo que nuestras maestras y ayudantes de Kinder hicieron al guiar a sus estudiantes en oración durante el mes de mayo con la Coronación a María. Como hermanos y hermanas de Jesús, ¡María también es nuestra madre! Hacemos de su conocimiento que los sacerdotes estaremos orando por todas ustedes en este fin de semana del Día de las Madres. También tendremos en nuestras oraciones a todos aquellos que estén teniendo momentos difíciles por cualquier motivo durante estos días para que encuentren paz y consuelo.
Mayo es el mes de la Salud Mental. Favor de ver el video en Formed que muestra cómo la salud espiritual y la salud mental trabajan juntas. Al celebrar la Semana Nacional de las Enfermeras, queremos enviar un agradecimiento especial a nuestra enfermera de la escuela, ¡Celinda Smothers y a todas las enfermeras de nuestra escuela y de las familias de nuestra parroquia! Gracias por todo lo que hacen para ¡mantenernos saludables y devolvernos la salud!
El Obispo McKnight estará aquí para ofrecer el Sacramento de la Confirmación a nuestros feligreses de San Vicente de Paul el domingo 16 de mayo durante la misa del domingo a las 2:00 pm en el Gimnasio McGremlin. ¡Varios estudiantes de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón serán confirmados en esta ceremonia! Continúe orando por ellos en este acontecimiento para el desarrollo de su fe y por un crecimiento constante en sus vidas espirituales.

Celebraciones Senior
Melody Mertes
Melody asistirá a State Fair Community College. Planea tomar algunos cursos universitarios durante el verano para eliminar la mayor cantidad de los requisitos de educación general que pueda antes del mes de agosto. Estas clases, junto con las horas de crédito dual adquiridas en SH le dejarán aproximadamente un año de clases en State Fair para terminar todos los requisitos de educación general. Una vez que lo logre, asistirá a Newman University en Wichita para especializarse en Negocios. El interés de Melody en los negocios fue provocado por acompañar a su mamá al trabajo en “take your daughter to work day” a lo largo de los años. No está exactamente segura de que aspecto de negocios pero le gusta que ¡el campo incorpora numerosas posibilidades!. Melody se auto proclama “hogareña” consciente de que será difícil mudarse cuando llegue el momento. Lo planeó sabiamente, ya que si no puede conducir a casa tiene familiares que viven en Wichita.
Horario de Exámenes Finales
Todos los grupos de estudiantes en grados 6 al 12 tendrán finales acumulativos del segundo semestre. A continuación el horario (schedule).
Recordatorio para Todas las Familias
Sólo nos quedan unas pocas semanas de este año escolar. Favor de revisar el Portal Familiar de FACTS para asegurarse que todos los cargos se hayan pagado antes del 28 de mayo para que pueda recibir la boleta de calificaciones de su hijo.
Premios GREMMY / Concierto de Primavera de HS
Los Reconocimientos Anuales Gremmy / Concierto de Primavera de High School se llevarán a cabo el miércoles 12 de mayo a las 6:30 p.m. en el Gimnasio McGremlin.
El coro y la banda de Sacred Heart High School se presentarán en la ceremonia. También se entregarán los reconocimientos. El punto culminante de la noche será cuando el elenco de You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown se reúna para cantar el número de cierre Happiness.
Haga planes para asistir y apoyar el Programa de Arte del Sagrado Corazón. Practicaremos el distanciamiento social y el uso de cubrebocas cuando sea necesario
