Happy Friday everyone,
I hope you had a wonderful and joyous Easter! We are back at it and getting in the groove of the 4th quarter. There are a lot of exciting things happening as the last few weeks of the 2020-2021 school year wind down. I certainly hope this has been a good year for your family. I know that I am thankful everyday that we have been able to be here in person this year and slowly, but surely, working our way back to some semblance of normalcy.
Mrs. Pyle is continuing to work hard to get everyone successfully enrolled for 21-22. If you still need to meet with her to finalize your child’s place in their class for the fall please take care of that at your earliest convenience.
Again, we hope your experience has been a good one this year and, if so, the greatest compliment you could offer us is to refer us to another great Catholic Christian family!
Just so that you are aware, we did do another drill on Wednesday practicing our hard lockdown procedures. Pettis County Sheriff, Dr. Brad Anders, was present for our drill and was able to pinpoint several classrooms and areas of our performance that needed further review. He will be back on April 30 to spend some time with faculty and staff to implement suggestions for improvement and offer additional training. We are striving to remain very aware of student safety. If you have questions about any of this please feel free to reach out to Mr. Jones.

St. Vincent de Paul Sing/Play Along (Music Jam Session)

St. Patrick’s Chapel Come one, Come All! Anyone in our St. Vincent de Paul parish who sings or plays an instrument join us to sing/play/learn some songs that may be used at our parish Masses in the future. Please let Dianne know if you will be coming, so that we can prepare appropriately.

Kindergarten Screening – April 30
Sacred Heart School is offering another free kindergarten developmental readiness screening on April 30. All children who will be 5 years of age by July 31, 2021, are invited to attend. Please contact the Sacred Heart School Admissions Office at (660) 827-3800 to schedule an appointment.
Senior Celebrations
Lucas Martin
Lucas has signed with State Fair Community College to play soccer. Upon finishing up at SFCC, he plans to go on to Logan University to study chiropractic medicine. He says he is excited to play soccer at the collegiate level amongst players that will help him become a better player. Lucas feels like playing multiple sports in high school while keeping his grades up has prepared him well for the upcoming year. Playing soccer will take a lot of his time, but he is used to balancing academics and sports. Plus…Lucas points out, he will not be in classes from 8-3 five days a week. What he is most excited about is that he is taking steps towards his goal of a full time career.

Spring sports are now in full swing! While at the last baseball and softball games I constantly heard folks yell “heads up” as fly balls are coming over the fence and it had me thinking that this week in the sports corner we should talk about concussions so HEADS UP!
Concussion awareness has become a hot topic the last several years in the athletic world. Over the last 10 years, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has worked to raise awareness of concussions among children and teens because they are more likely to get a concussion and take longer to recover when compared to adults.
Common symptoms include one or more of the following:

Headache
-
Confusion
-
Difficulty remembering or paying attention
-
Balance problems or dizziness
-
Feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy, or groggy
-
Feeling irritable, more emotional, or “down”
-
Nausea or vomiting
-
Bothered by light or noise
-
Double or blurry vision
-
Slowed reaction time
-
Sleep problems
-
Loss of consciousness
As administrators, coaches, players and parents we should all be aware of the signs and symptoms. If signs and symptoms occur we must act immediately. If you are diagnosed with a concussion by a physician it must be reported to the athletic director and the coach. Player safety is always the number one priority and after being diagnosed with a concussion there is a process that must be followed before the student athlete can resume to full activity. You must first be cleared by a physician to start the return to play progression.

Feliz Viernes a Todos,
¡Espero que hayan tenido una Pascua maravillosa y alegre! Estamos de vuelta y entramos en el 4to trimestre. Están sucediendo muchas cosas emocionantes a medida que terminan las últimas semanas del año escolar 2020-2021. Ciertamente, espero que este haya sido un buen año para su familia. Estoy agradecido diariamente de haber podido estar en persona durante este año y poco a poco pero con seguridad, trabajando en nuestro camino de regreso a la normalidad.
La Sra. Pyle continúa trabajando arduamente para que todos se inscriban exitosamente para el 21-22. Si aún necesita reunirse con ella para finalizar el proceso de asegurar un lugar para su hijo en el otoño, favor de agendar una cita lo antes posible.
Nuevamente, esperamos que su experiencia haya sido buena este año y de ser así, ¡el mayor cumplido que podría hacernos es recomendarnos otra gran familia Católica Cristiana!
Para su conocimiento, el miércoles hicimos otro simulacro practicando nuestros protocolos de cierre estricto. El Dr. Brad Anders, Alguacil del Condado de Pettis, estuvo presente en nuestro simulacro y pudo identificar varias aulas y áreas que necesitaban una revisión adicional. Regresará el 30 de abril para pasar un tiempo con los profesores y el personal e implementar sugerencias de mejora así como ofrecer capacitación adicional. Nos esforzamos por permanecer muy conscientes de la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes. Si tiene preguntas sobre este tema, no dude en comunicarse con el Sr. Jones.
Los invito a que estén atentos a los calendarios deportivos de primavera y salgan a apoyar a los estudiantes siempre que tengan oportunidad. ¡Que tenga un maravilloso fin de semana!

Evaluación de Kindergarten – 30 de abril

Celebraciones Senior
Lucas Martin
Lucas ha firmado con State Fair Community College para jugar fútbol soccer. Una vez que termine en SFCC, planea asistir a Logan University para estudiar medicina quiropráctica. Dice que está emocionado de jugar fútbol soccer a nivel universitario junto con los jugadores que le ayudarán a convertirse en un mejor jugador. Lucas siente que practicar varios deportes en high school y mantener buenas calificaciones al mismo tiempo lo ha preparado bien para el próximo año. Jugar fútbol soccer le llevará mucho tiempo pero está acostumbrado a balancear lo académico y lo deportivo. Además… Lucas señala que no estará en clases de 8 a 3 cinco días a la semana. Lo que más le entusiasma es que está dando pasos hacia su objetivo de una carrera de tiempo completo.

¡Los deportes de primavera ya están en pleno apogeo! Mientras que en los últimos juegos de béisbol y softbol constantemente escuché a la gente gritar “heads up” cuando las pelotas volantes se acercaban a la cerca, me hizo pensar que esta semana en el rincón deportivo deberíamos hablar sobre conmociones cerebrales así que ¡AVISO!
La conciencia de las conmociones cerebrales se ha convertido en un tema candente en los últimos años en el mundo deportivo. Durante los últimos 10 años, los Centros para el Control y Prevención de Enfermedades Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC por sus siglas en inglés) ha trabajado para crear conciencia sobre las conmociones cerebrales entre los niños y adolescentes porque tienen más probabilidades de sufrir una conmoción cerebral y tardan más en recuperarse en comparación con los adultos.
Los síntomas comunes incluyen una o más de las siguientes:

Dolor de cabeza

Confusión
-
Dificultad para recordar o poner atención

Problemas de equilibrio o mareo
-
Sentirse lento, confuso, brumoso o aturdido

Sentirse irritable, más emocional o “deprimido”

Pérdida de conciencia
Como administradores, entrenadores, jugadores y padres, todos debemos estar atentos a los signos y síntomas. Si se presentan signos y síntomas debemos actuar de inmediato. Si un médico diagnostica una conmoción cerebral, debe informar al director deportivo y al entrenador. La seguridad del jugador es siempre la prioridad número uno y después de ser diagnosticado con una conmoción cerebral hay un proceso que debe de seguirse antes de que el estudiante pueda reanudar su actividad completa. Primero debe de obtener la autorización de un médico para iniciar el regreso al juego progresivamente. El proceso completo se describe en este formulario de la MSHSAA- https://www.mshsaa.
