Greetings, Everyone!
I’d like to start today by saying, “Job Well Done” to our Athletic Director, Mrs. Amanda Blackburn. She did a remarkable job coordinating and running the Kaysinger Conference Varsity Basketball tournament under some very challenging conditions. Special thanks to Mrs. DeGraff for taking the lead on the Kaysinger Conference hospitality room and doing a great job in making guests within our building feel welcome. Thanks to all of the parents who contributed food and funds for the hospitality room.
Congratulations as well to the Smithton Tigers on the boys side and the Tipton Cardinals on the girls side. They are this year’s conference tournament champions!

Just a reminder, there is no school on Friday, February 12 due to a professional development day for faculty and no school on Monday, February 15 in honor of Presidents Day. We will send a Beat on Friday but there will be only one SH Beat next week and it will come out on Friday the 19th.

Sacred Heart students focused on praying during Catholic Schools Week!
It was an honor and privilege to pray with our School Community each day of Catholic Schools Week. Our students offered up their prayers for many in our community including our friends and benefactors. A spiritual bouquet was sent to many of them to let them know they were kept in prayers all week!
Here are some of the ways we celebrated Catholic Schools Week.

Monday, our students heard about the importance of feeding the hungry and how we do that at Open Door. We prayed from the Gospel of Matthew, when we feed the hungry, we feed Jesus. (LINK)

Tuesday, we came back to the gym, had our picture from the Joseph Shrine in the Commons and prayed a litany to St. Joseph since we are in the Year of St Joseph as declared by Pope Francis. (LINK)

Wednesday, we prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet. It was so beautiful as Mr. Hartman continued to play the piano more and more softly until he wasn’t playing at all and the whole gym was chanting the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Inspiring! (LINK)

Thursday, Mrs. McDonald brought several students onto the gym floor as each of them lead us in prayer for each bead of the Luminous Mysteries of the Living Rosary. Very well done, young students! (LINK)

National Marriage Week
In honor of National Marriage Week (Feb. 7-14) and as a Lenten resource, the Marriage in Christ At Home Seminar is free for couples who sign up by March 31, 2021. Once registered, access is free through May 31, 2021. You can learn more at marriageinchrist.com.
Special Mass for World Day of Prayer For The Sick, Thursday, February 11 at 11:15 am. Saint Pope John Paul II initiated this day in 1992 to encourage people to pray for those who suffer from illness and for their caregivers. Pope Benedict XVI announced his decision to retire due to his declining health on this day in 2013. A Mass with the anointing of the Sick will occur at St Patrick chapel at 11:15 am on Thursday, February 11. Confessions beforehand from 10:30 until 11 am.
All school Mass in the school gym at 8:30 am on Ash Wednesday, February 17.
Please note, we have received special instructions from Rome in regards to the practice of the distribution of Ashes on Ash Wednesday during the Pandemic:
Distribution of Ashes on Ash Wednesday:
During this time of the pandemic, the Holy See has modified the method of distributing the ashes, as outlined in the following “Note”: The Priest says the prayer for blessing the ashes. He sprinkles the ashes with holy water, without saying anything. Then he addresses all those present and only once says the formula as it appears in the Roman Missal, applying it to all in general: “Repent, and believe in the Gospel”, or “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return”. The Priest then cleanses his hands, puts on a face mask, and distributes the ashes to those who come to him or, if appropriate, he goes to those who are standing in their places. The Priest takes the ashes and sprinkles them on the head of each one without saying anything. Notice there is to be no touching the forehead. The distribution takes place at the normal time after the homily.
Catholic Schools Week Celebrations Continue
Thank you to our Active Parents Club, our Pastors and our Campus Ministry Team, and the rest of the Catholic Schools Week planning committee for carrying out a very successful Catholic Schools Week. It was full of prayer opportunities and celebrations for our teachers and students.
Bishop McKnight shared a video with the Sacred Heart faculty and staff last Thursday on Teacher/Staff Appreciation day to share the amazing news that Diocesean faculty and staff would be receiving bonuses thanks to their great work and tireless efforts. Thursday, February 11: is RED (and white) Carpet, aka Red and White Day! The pep rally will also happen at the end of the day.

Friday, February 12: No School, Homecoming GAME. The Sacred Heart Gremlins take on the La Monte Vikings starting at 5:30 pm with 2 quarters of JV boys followed by Varsity girls then Varsity Boys. The queen coronation will take place between the boys and girls varsity games! We will also announce the winner of the Gremlin Gear design contest.

Wednesday, February 17: Ash Wednesday with an All School Mass in the McGremlin Gym.

Thursday, February 18: Rescheduled Movie Genre Day and Senior Night at the Game. Check with your class president to know which movie theme your class is representing.

Friday, February 19: Rescheduled Celebrity Off Duty and the final regular season basketball game in Windsor.
Senior Parent Night Rescheduled
Senior parent night for ALL Seniors, the Class of 2021, has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 18th at the girl’s home game vs Windsor. Please be looking for more information on the schedule of events as the date draws nearer.

Maria Mergen
Maria will be attending the University of Missouri Kansas City. However, at this time, she is undecided as to her major. When asked what drew her to UMKC, Maria said she loved the idea of going away to college but wanted to be somewhat close to home. Maria said a big draw for her was the impressive campus technology and all of the opportunities that UMKC has to offer. The beautiful campus and surrounding area caught her attention as well! When asked if she was nervous about this new adventure, she said “maybe a little about making new friends…a lot of my class has been together since kindergarten.” But she is committed to staying on campus at least for the first two weeks to give herself an opportunity to meet people. “I’m certainly not going to meet anyone if I’m at my house in Sedalia.”

Kindergarten Screening NEXT WEEK
Sacred Heart School in Sedalia is offering free kindergarten developmental readiness screenings February 16-18. All children who will be 5 years of age by July 31, 2021, are invited to attend. Please contact the Sacred Heart School Admissions Office at (660) 827-3800 to schedule an appointment. SHS is a distinguished co-educational school for preschool through 12th-grade students. Bus services are available for students in Warrensburg, LaMonte, WAFB, and surrounding areas.
Each child is unique. However, this assessment provides parents with an opportunity to see how their child is progressing in relation to children of the same age. Families interested in enrolling at Sacred Heart for the 2021 – 2022 school year will have the opportunity to tour the campus, receive enrollment paperwork, and meet the kindergarten teachers. The screening is encouraged even if parents feel they may want to hold their child another year.
SCRIP In House Order
We are placing another in house order for the month of February this week. Submit your orders either to the school office or through the RaiseRight app. Any orders submitted by the end of school Thursday, February 11th should be ready for pickup by Thursday, February 18th.

¡Saludos a todos!
Me gustaría comenzar el día de hoy diciendo, “Trabajo Bien Hecho” a nuestra Directora de Deportes la Sra. Amanda Blackburn. Hizo un trabajo extraordinario coordinando y dirigiendo el Torneo de Baloncesto categoría Varsity de la Conferencia Kaysinger en unas condiciones muy desafiantes. Un agradecimiento especial a la Sra. DeGraff por tomar la iniciativa en la sala de hospitalidad de la Conferencia Kaysenger y hacer un gran trabajo para hacer que los huéspedes de nuestro edificio se sientan bienvenidos. Gracias a todos los padres que contribuyeron con alimentos y fondos para la sala de hospitalidad.

Mensaje de los Pastores
¡Los estudiantes del Sagrado Corazón se enfocaron en orar durante la Semana de Escuelas Católicas!
Fue un honor y privilegio orar con nuestra Comunidad Escolar todos los días de la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas. Nuestros estudiantes ofrecieron sus oraciones por muchos en la comunidad incluyendo nuestros amigos y benefactores. ¡A muchos de ellos se les envió un ramo espiritual para hacerles saber que los mantuvieron en oración toda la semana!
Estas son algunas formas en las que celebramos la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas.

El lunes, nuestros estudiantes escucharon acerca de la importancia de alimentar a los hambrientos y como lo hacemos en Open Door. Oramos del Evangelio de Mateo, cuando alimentamos a los hambrientos, alimentamos a Jesús. (LINK)

El martes, regresamos al gimnasio, tomamos nuestra foto del Santuario de San José del área de los comunes y oramos la letanía a San José ya que como lo declaró el Papa Francisco, estamos en el año de San José. (LINK)

El miércoles, oramos la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia. Fue hermoso que el Sr. Hartman continuara tocando el piano cada vez más suavemente hasta que dejó de tocar y todo el gimnasio estaba cantando la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia. ¡Inspirador! (LINK)

En honor a la Semana Nacional del Matrimonio (del 7 al 14 de febrero) y como un recurso de Cuaresma, el Seminario Matrimonio en Cristo en el hogar es gratuito para las parejas que se inscriban antes del 31 de marzo, 2021. Misa Especial de la Jornada Mundial de Oración por los Enfermos, jueves 11 de febrero a las 11:15 am
El Papa San Juan Pablo II inició este día en 1992 para invitar a las personas a orar por aquellos que sufren de enfermedades y por los que los cuidan. El Papa Benedicto XVI anunció su decisión de retirarse debido al deterioro de su salud en este día en 2013. Se llevará a cabo una misa con la unción de los enfermos en la Capilla de San Patricio a las 11:15 am el jueves 11 de febrero. Confesiones previas de 10:30 hasta las 11:00 am.

Distribución de Cenizas el Miércoles de Ceniza:
Durante este tiempo de pandemia, la Santa Sede ha modificado el método de distribución de las cenizas, como se describe en la siguiente “Nota”. El Sacerdote dice la oración para bendecir las cenizas. Rocía las cenizas con agua bendita sin decir nada. Luego se dirige a todos los presentes y sólo una vez dice la fórmula como aparece en el Misal Romano, aplicándola a todos en general: “Arrepiéntete y cree en el Evangelio” o “Recuerda que polvo eres y en polvo te convertirás”. A continuación, el sacerdote limpiará sus manos, se pondrá una mascarilla y distribuirá las cenizas a los que se acerquen a él o si procede, se dirigirá a los que están parados en sus lugares. El sacerdote toma las cenizas y las rocía sobre la cabeza de cada uno sin decir nada. Tenga en cuenta que no debe tocarse la frente. La distribución tiene lugar en el horario habitual después de la homilía.

Gracias a nuestros Club de Padres Activos, nuestros Pastores y nuestros Equipo de Ministerio del Campus y al resto del comité de planificación de la Semana de Escuelas Católicas por llevar a cabo una Semana de las Escuelas Católicas muy exitosa. Estuvo lleno de oportunidades de oración y celebraciones de nuestros maestros y estudiantes.

Maria asistirá a University of Missouri Kansas City. Sin embargo, en este momento, está indecisa en cuanto a su especialidad. Cuando se le preguntó que la atrajo de UMKC, María dijo que le encantaba la idea de irse a la universidad pero quería estar algo cerca de casa. Maria dijo que un gran atractivo para ella fue la impresionante tecnología del campus y todas las oportunidades que UMKC tiene para ofrecer. ¡El hermoso campus y el área circundante también llamaron su atención! Cuando se le preguntó si estaba nerviosa por esta nueva aventura dijo, “tal vez un poco sobre hacer nuevos amigos… gran parte de mi generación ha estado junta desde kindergarten.” Pero está comprometida a permanecer en el campus al menos durante las primeras dos semanas para darse la oportunidad de conocer gente. “Ciertamente no voy a conocer a nadie si estoy en mi casa en Sedalia.”

Evaluaciones de Kindergarten LA PRÓXIMA SEMANA
La Escuela del Sagrado Corazón en Sedalia ofrecerá evaluaciones gratuitas de preparación para el desarrollo de Kindergarten del 16 al 18 de febrero. Están invitados a asistir todos los niños con 5 años cumplidos antes del 31 de julio, 2021. Favor de comunicarse con la Oficina de Admisiones de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón al (660) 827-3800 para programar una cita. SHS es una distinguida escuela mixta para estudiantes desde preescolar hasta doceavo grado. El servicio de autobús está disponible para estudiantes en Warrensburg, LaMonte, WAFB y áreas circundantes.
Cada niño es único. Sin embargo, esta evaluación brinda a los padres la oportunidad de ver el progreso de su hijo en relación con niños de la misma edad. Las familias interesadas en inscribirse en el Sagrado Corazón para el año escolar 2021-2022 tendrán la oportunidad de recorrer el campus, recibir documentación de la inscripción y conocer a las maestras de kindergarten. Se invita a la evaluación incluso si los padres sienten que quieren tener a sus hijos un año más.
SCRIP Orden en Casa
Esta semana estaremos colocando otro pedido en casa para el mes de febrero. Envíe sus pedidos a la oficina de la escuela o mediante la aplicación RaiseRight. Los pedidos enviados a la escuela al final del día jueves 11 de febrero deben estar listos para recogerse el jueves 18 de febrero.
