Eighth Grade Mission Trip

“You my brothers were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather serve one another humbly in love.” Galatians 5:13

As we began our mission trip to Kansas City with prayer and a blessing to send us on our way, you could feel the excitement and anticipation building for what was yet to come. Little did we know how our trip and our lives would be changed by the end. This was the first time that 100% of the 8th grade students participated and I know they not only had a great time but truly grew closer to God and each other.

A common experience voiced by all was the joy in being able to help so many people.  The vastness of the Harvesters food pantry and the hundreds of people who needed food and clothing was humbling but made the students feel grateful for their own families and parents!

The week ended for the students with a little fun at the Tucker Leadership Academy.  The kids and chaperones were all pretty tired from all of the activities and shenanigans, but one student summed it up well saying, “This seems like a reward for all of our hard work these past few days.”

Eighth-grade class president Mariah VanLeer commented. “I feel like this trip really brought our class together. We truly and sincerely loved being with each other and had mutual happiness and affection. We respected the place we stayed and the wonderful lady that provided hospitality as well as the adults and each other. We all did our part and did not slack off during our service projects. During prayers and Mass in the Chapel, we remained quiet and respectful. I believe we enjoyed each other’s company and grew in our relationship with each other and God.”

Thank you Sacred Heart School and parents for making this opportunity possible. It was a wonderful, eye-opening experience doing all that we did for the goodness and glory of God!
