The Coronavirus pandemic has forced all teachers to get creative and develop new platforms to bring education to their students. Here at Sacred Heart, the Kindergarten teachers have created a Google slide delivery platform to deliver daily instruction to their Kinders. An example has been included below.
Mrs. Dove has taken the lead in developing the lesson plans. She is careful to search for a variety of lessons that allow students to use motion, music, art, gross motor and fine motor skills while incorporating the 4th quarter curriculum.
Ms. Kramer has taken the lead in creating Google slides on which to deliver the lessons. One of Ms. Kramer’s first jobs was to teach Mrs. Dove how to use Google Slides so that both teachers could work together to create each day’s learning slides. Ms. Kramer is the technical “expert” in creating the learning slides and is the troubleshooter for Mrs. Dove and the Kinder parents. Together they make a great Kinder team!
The learning slides are divided into different subject areas: Notes to Parents, Morning Work, Review, Language Arts, Specials (Art, Music, PE, Computer, Spanish), Math, Social Studies/Science, and Religion. The learning slides are continually evolving. Each subject is now color-coded to help parents easily see slides needed for each subject.

Being cognizant that Kinder students must rely on their adult’s help and many of the adults are still working, slides now include a yellow star on priority slides to let parents know the slides that “must be” completed daily and ones that may be completed later. Since Kinders are really missing school, slides now include a teacher-recorded story so the students can “see” their teacher. Feedback from parents helps guide the teachers in making changes to the slides. Each day parents scan or photograph their child’s work and send it to the teachers for grading.
The Kindergarten teachers miss their Kinders terribly but are grateful that parents are successfully using this platform to keep their Kinders learning. Ms. Kramer states, “I never imagined that my first year teaching would look like this, but God placed me where I was needed and had a plan for me. I’m so blessed by the support and appreciation I have been given since joining the Sacred Heart family. I don’t think I would be this successful if I didn’t have Mrs. Dove and the other staff to guide and encourage me.”
Mrs. Dove states, “Ms. Kramer has been such a blessing since she joined the Sacred Heart family. Now that we must deliver instruction virtually, I feel God brought her specifically to Sacred Heart to help Kindergarten navigate this new form of learning.”
