First Semester is winding down quickly and there is a lot going on at the school. One of the highlights of today’s Beat is a calendar of events that will take us through the remainder of the semester.
Please take a look at this and a couple of other pieces of information. Don’t hesitate to call or email if you have questions or concerns.
I hope you will have a chance to consider all the exciting possibilities of the Advent season with your family as these days leading up to Christmas proceed. Advent is a special time of repentance and renewal. If we just use this liturgical season to stay awake and be present with our God and Savior, the possibilities of a truly joyous Christmas are amazing!

California Math Contest
Sacred Heart High School took a small but mighty crew to participate in the California math contest this past Saturday. We had 4 students attend: Sr. Joseph Henke and Freshmen Kate Carney, Jordan Hill, and Jaden Velando. The results are listed below:
Kate Carney – 1st in Word problems 9, 2nd in Manual computation
Joseph Henke – 2nd in Word problems 12, 2nd in ACT math, 3rd in Hodgepodge and 2nd in Calculus
Kate Carney, Jordan Hill, and Jaden Velando took 3rd in 9th-grade team
Joseph Henke single-handedly took first in 12th-grade team
Kate Carney was 3rd top freshman overall
Joseph Henke was top senior overall

A Charter bus departs Sedalia Wednesday, January 22, and returns to Sedalia Saturday, January 25. Bus riders will have Thursday to visit DC sites and attend the vigil at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
This event is open to everyone. Trip fare for students is $230 with limited financial assistance available. Sign-ups are available in the school office. The deadline for RSVPs is Dec. 19. Senior Juan Fernandez Captures Offensive Player of the Year and Signs with SFCC
Senior Juan Fernandez signed his scholarship letter to play soccer for State Fair Community College in the Fall of 2020. Juan was recently named 1st Team All-State and Co-Offensive Player of the Year for the state of Missouri in Class 1. Juan was also named to the All-Conference, All-District and All-Region teams as well as being named the Offensive Player of the Year for Region 7/8. Congratulations to an amazing young man!!
Juan serves as a student aide for Mrs. Tippie’s third grade class and they were able to celebrate Juan’s signing with him.
SHS Speech Meet
Mrs. Bahner and our Talking Gremlins will be hosting a high school Speech Contest on Saturday, Dec. 14. Mrs. Bahner is looking for judges and food donations for the hospitality room. News from St. Vincent de Paul
Adoration Chapel Schedule – The adoration chapel will be closed Dec. 15 for everyone to have the opportunity to attend the Penance Service at St. Patrick Chapel at 4 p.m. and for the Follow the Star event at 6:30 p.m. The Chapel will also not open until noon on Wednesday, December 18 due to the Anointing Mass at 10:30am. The Chapel will also be closed on Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25 for Christmas and Tuesday, December 31, and Wednesday, January 1, for New Year’s.
Knights of Columbus/Daughters of Isabella Christmas Party – Jan 5
The Knights of Columbus/Daughters of Isabella Christmas party will be held on Sunday, January 5th from 2-4 p.m.. Come enjoy food, fun, and fellowship. If you have any questions, please contact Theresa at 827-3762.
Faith on Tap – County Distributing, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 19
This monthly event, sponsored by Pastors Fr. Joe Corel and Fr. David Veit, is an opportunity to gather in an informal, relaxed setting to learn more about, rejoice in, and discuss our Catholic Faith. It is firmly rooted in love of our Catholic Faith and is open to anyone 18 or older who has a desire and love of truth. The name is a “play on words” as these are almost always held at a well-respected location that serves beer “on tap,” (of course much water, soda, and other beverages and snacks are also consumed).
This month: Ten Lord’s A Leaping…What’s Up With That?! – Learn the stories behind our favorite holiday songs.

¡Saludos Padres del SHS!
El primer semestre se acerca al final con rapidez y hay muchas cosas pasando en la escuela. Uno de los aspectos relevantes del Beat de hoy es el calendario de eventos que nos guiará lo que resta del semestre.

Espero que tenga oportunidad de considerar todas las emocionantes posibilidades de la temporada de Adviento con su familia conforme estos días nos conducen a la Navidad. El Adviento es un tiempo especial de arrepentimiento y renovación. ¡Si utilizaramos esa temporada litúrgica para estar despiertos y presentes con Dios y nuestro Salvador, las posibilidades de la verdadera alegría navideña sería increíbles!

Competencia de Matemáticas en California
La preparatoria del Sagrado Corazón llevó a participar a un grupo pequeño pero poderoso al concurso de Matemáticas en California el pasado sábado. Asistieron 4 estudiantes: Senior Joseph Henke y Freshmen Kate Carney, Jordan Hill y Jaden Velando. Abajo se incluyen los resultados:
Kate Carney – 1er lugar en Problemas Redactados de 9o grado, 2o lugar en operaciones manuales
Joseph Henke – 2o lugar en Problemas Redactados de 12o grado, 2o lugar en Matemáticas de ACT, 3er lugar en Hodgepodge y 2o lugar en Cálculo
Kate Carney, Jordan Hill y Jaden Velando ocuparon el 3er lugar por equipo de 9o grado
Joseph Henke por sí solo, se llevó el primer lugar en equipo de 12o grado
Kate Carney ganó el 3er lugar general en categoría freshman
Joseph Henke fué el mejor senior en general

Únase al Evento Pro Vida más Grande del Mundo en Washington, D.C., en su 46a Marcha Anual por la Vida.
La demostración pacífica que se ha llevado a cabo desde 1973 reúne a cientos de miles como testigos de la verdad en relación a la mayor violación de derechos humanos de nuestra época, el aborto a petición legalizado. Un autobús partirá de Sedalia el miércoles 22 de enero y regresará el sábado 25 de enero. Los tripulantes del autobús tendrán el jueves para visitar sitios en DC y asistir a la vigilia en la Basílica de la Inmaculada Concepción.
Este evento está abierto a todos. La tarifa de viaje para los estudiantes es de $230 con asistencia financiera limitada. Las inscripciones están disponibles en la oficina escolar. El alumno Senior (12o grado) Juan Fernández Ganó el Título de Jugador Ofensivo del Año y Firma con SFCC
El alumno senior Juan Fernández firmó su carta de beca para jugar fútbol para el State Fair Community College en el otoño del 2020. Juan fue recientemente nombrado en el 1er Equipo del Todo el Estado y Jugador Co Ofensivo del Año para el Estado de Missouri en la Clase 1. Juan también fue nombrado en los equipos de Toda la Conferencia, Todo el Distrito y Toda la Región así como nombrado el Jugador Ofensivo del Año para la Región 7 / 8. ¡¡Felicitaciones a un joven tan increíble!!
Juan es ayudante en el grupo de 3er grado de la Sra. Tippie, ellos pudieron celebrar con Juan cuando firmó.
Competencia de Oratoria del SHS
La Sra. Bahner y nuestros Gremlins Parlantes serán los anfitriones de la Competencia de Oratoria a nivel Bachillerato el sábado 14 de diciembre. La Sra. Bahner está buscando jueces y donativos de alimentos para la habitación de hospitalidad. No se necesita experiencia como juez. Concierto Sigue la Estrella
El domingo 15 de diciembre a las 6:30 pm en la Capilla Sagrado Corazón será el concierto Sigue la Estrella, este es una celebración musical para la Sagrada Familia a cargo del Sr. Hartman (coro), la Sra. Edwards (banda) y la Sra. Bolin (ministra del campus). Se aceptarán donativos a libre albedrío para apoyar al departamento de Música de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón
Noticias de la Parroquia de San Vicente de Paúl
Horario de la Capilla de Adoración – La capilla de adoración estará cerrada el 15 de diciembre para que todos tengan la oportunidad de asistir al Servicio de Penitencia en la capilla San Patricio a las 4 p.m. y después al evento de Sigue la Estrella a las 6:30 p.m. La Capilla abrirá hasta el mediodía el miércoles 18 de diciembre debido a la Misa de Unción de las 10:30am. La capilla también estará cerrada el martes 24 y el miércoles 25 de diciembre por Navidad y el martes 31 de diciembre y el miércoles 1o de enero por Año Nuevo..

Faith on Tap – en el Centro de Distribución del Condado el jueves 19 de diciembre a las 6:30 p.m.
Este evento mensual es organizado por los sacerdotes Joe Corel y David Veit, esta es una oportunidad de reunirse en un entorno informal y relajado para aprender más, regocijarse y hablar sobre nuestra Fe Católica. Está firmemente enraizada en el amor a nuestra fe católica y está abierta a todas las personas de 18 años o mayores que tengan el deseo y el amor por la verdad. El nombre es un “juego de palabras” puesto que estos eventos son casi siempre en lugares con buena reputación que sirven cerveza de barril, (por supuesto también se consume agua y otras bebidas y bocadillos).
