Greetings SHS Families,
First-quarter is in our rearview mirror. Report cards came out yesterday and Parent-Teacher conferences are coming up next week. You should have received a message yesterday about these two topics but we have included the information in today’s message again just in case. Don’t forget: we have early outs on Tuesday and Wednesday next week to accommodate the Parent-Teacher conference schedule.
We were thrilled to have our grandparents in the building today. The kids are so happy to be able to show grandma and grandpa their school!
Monday will be our second paid dress down day of the year. This month our proceeds are going to help 11 of our high school students make the trek to NCYC. (the National Catholic Youth Conference) in Indianapolis Lucas Oil Stadium. Please keep them and Mrs. Bolin in your prayers!
One more reminder, winter weather dress code goes into effect on Tuesday, November 5th.

REPORT CARDS:
As you know paper REPORT CARDS went home yesterday with students in grades K-5. Parents of students in grades 6-12 can find their report card in the FACTS Family Portal.
You can access those report cards by going to our website – www.gogremlins.com – click on the PARENT PORTAL link in the top navigation and sign in. Click on the STUDENT tab once you are logged in and select REPORT CARD. In that view, you will be able to see your student’s entire report card. If you have more than one student, you can click near their name and select another child.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES:
Families with more than one child should send ONLY 1 conference request form listing ALL teachers you wish to see.
During these conferences, you will be able to participate in the discussion of your child’s academic progress. The days of conferences are Tuesday, October 29 and Wednesday, October 30, 2019, from 2:00 PM to 6:45 PM.
All JH teachers will be in the main gym on Tuesday to meet with parents from 2 PM – 4:30 PM & 5 PM – 7 PM. No need to schedule times for the JH Classes on Tuesday.
Return the attached sheet as soon as possible either to the main office OR via email edegraff@gogremlins.com: time slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We will schedule all appointment times and let you know when your conferences are via email.

Junior High Student Led Parent/Teacher Conferences
Sacred Heart Junior High Students (Grades 6-8) will be participating in Student Led Parent/Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, October 29th. Our entire Junior High Staff will be present in the McGremlin Gym for these conferences. Student led conferences require students to be invested in their own learning. The benefits of this format are the development of goal-setting, public speaking skills, and self-reflection on academic progress.
When you enter the gym with your student, the teachers will be sitting at tables around the sides of the gym. You may begin with the teacher of your choosing. Your students will have practiced their presentation to not exceed five minutes in length. This time frame will allow your students to present the information for all of their classes. After the five-minute presentation is concluded, please proceed to the next available teacher.
The conferences will be approximately five minutes in length and your students have been preparing SMART goals and portfolios for your review. These portfolios contain work that the students feel has been successful and assignments that they have struggled on. Attached is a video from Wildwood Magnet School who has successfully introduced this concept in their school.

After the conference, if you have additional concerns in a particular class, the Junior High Staff will have sign-up sheets at their tables for you to schedule a time to meet with that teacher.
Trunk or Treat Sponsored by Active Parents Club
In order for our Trunk or Treat to be a success for the entire community we need your help! Please consider having a “trunk” at our trunk-or-treat on October 31st from 4-6pm in the West Parking Lot. We encourage you do decorate your trunks but it is not required to participate. We had 500 kids last year and are hoping for more this year!
We will be serving up Hot Dogs, Hot Chocolate and have a Haunted School Bus too!

Days Off School and the Schedule for the BEAT
We have three consecutive 4 day weeks coming up. That is going to affect the days we will be sending home the SH Beat.
There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, November 1 (All Saints Day and a Holy Day of Obligation). Monday, November 4 (Teacher Professional Development in Jefferson City) and Monday, November 11 (Employee Benefits Training in Tipton).
The schedule for the SH Beat in this time frame will be Tuesday, November 5, Friday November 8, and Friday, November 15.

SHS to Host District Volleyball
The Grems will be hosting the MSHSAA District Tournament next week in the McGremlin Gym. Opening round play will be held on Monday, October 28. The finals are slated for Wednesday, October 30. This promises to be exciting high school volleyball action! Please come cheer on the girls.
Mrs. Kennon has asked me to share that we could really use some help in the concession stand next week for the District Volleyball Tournament. This is a great way to meet other Sacred Heart families and help your students get some service hours in.

Saludos FamIlias del SHS,
El primer cuarto está en nuestro espejo retrovisor. Los reportes de calificaciones se enviaron ayer a casa y las conferencias Padres Maestros serán la próxima semana. Debe haber recibido un mensaje sobre estos dos temas, sin embargo hemos incluido la información en el mensaje de hoy por si acaso no lo recibió. No olvide que tendremos salidas temprano el martes y el miércoles para acomodar los horarios de las conferencias Padres Maestros.
Nos encantó tener a nuestros abuelos hoy en el edificio.¡Los niños están felices por poder mostrarles su escuela a la abuela y al abuelo!
El lunes será el segundo día de Paid Dress Down del año. Este mes lo recaudado se destinará a ayudar a que 11 de nuestros estudiantes de bachillerato hagan el viaje a NCYC (Conferencia Nacional Católica Juvenil) al Indianapolis Lucas Oil Stadium. ¡Por favor mantenga a los estudiantes y a la Sra. Bolin en sus oraciones!
Un recordatorio más, el código de vestuario para clima frío entrará en vigor el martes 5 de noviembre.

REPORTES DE CALIFICACIONES:
Como ustedes saben los REPORTES DE CALIFICACIONES se enviaron a casa ayer para los estudiantes en grados de K a 5. Los padres de estudiantes en grados de 6-12 pueden encontrar su reporte de calificaciones en el Portal Familiar FACTS.
Pueden acceder a esos reportes de calificaciones visitando nuestra página web – www.gogremlins.com – de clic en el enlace del PORTAL FAMILIAR (Family Portal) en la parte superior del navegador e ingrese a su cuenta. Una vez que ha ingresado a su cuenta, haga clic en “STUDENT” (estudiante) y seleccione “REPORT CARD” (Reporte de Calificaciones). En esa vista, podrá ver el reporte completo de su estudiante. Si tiene más de un estudiante, puede hacer clic cerca del nombre de sus estudiantes y seleccionar a otro de sus hijos.

CONFERENCIAS PADRES MAESTROS:
Las familias con más de un niño deberán enviar SOLAMENTE 1 formato de petición de conferencia con el listado de TODOS los maestros a los que desea ver.
Durante estas conferencias, podrá participar en la discusión del progreso académico de su hijo. Los días de conferencia son el martes 29 y el miércoles 30 de octubre de 2019, de 2:00 PM a 6:45 PM.
Todos los maestros de grados JH (6o a 8o) estarán el martes en el gimnasio principal para reunirse con los padres de 2 PM – 4:30 PM y de 5 PM – 7 PM. No necesita agendar una cita para los grupos de JH si viene el martes.
Devuelva la hoja anexa tan pronto como sea posible: los horarios se llenan en el orden en que se reciben los formatos. Vamos a programar los horarios de las citas y le haremos saber vía email cuando son sus conferencias.
Los Estudiantes de Grados Junior High (6o a 8o) Dirigen las Conferencias Padres Maestros
Los Estudiantes de Grados Junior High (6o a 8o) del Sagrado Corazón participarán en las Conferencias Padres Maestros Dirigidas por Estudiantes el martes 29 de octubre. Nuestro personal docente de Junior High estará en el Gimnasio McGremlin para estas conferencias. Las conferencias dirigidas por estudiantes piden que los estudiantes inviertan en su propio aprendizaje. Los beneficios de este formato son el desarrollo del establecimiento de metas, habilidades para hablar en público autorreflexión en el progreso académico.
Cuando entre al gimnasio con su estudiante, los maestros estarán sentados en mesas alrededor del gimnasio. Puede comenzar con el maestro de su elección. Sus estudiantes habrán practicado su presentación para no pasarse de 5 minutos de duración. Este periodo de tiempo permitirá a sus estudiantes presentar la información de todas sus materias. Después de que termine la presentación de cinco minutos, por favor diríjase con el siguiente maestro disponible.
Las conferencias tendrán una duración aproximada de 5 minutos y sus estudiantes han estado preparando las metas SMART y sus portafolios para que los revise. Estos portafolios contienen trabajo en los que los estudiantes sienten que han sido exitosos y tareas en los que han tenido problema. Después de la conferencia, si tiene inquietudes adicionales en una materia en particular, el personal docente de grados de Junior High tendrá hojas de registro en sus mesas para que agende una cita con ese maestro.

Próximamente tendremos tres semanas seguidas de 4 días de clases. Esto afectará los días en los que estaremos enviando el SH Beat.
NO HABRÁ CLASES el viernes 1 de noviembre (Día de Todos los Santos y Día Santo de Obligación). Lunes 4 de noviembre (Desarrollo Profesional de los Maestros en Jefferson City) y lunes 11 de noviembre (Entrenamiento sobre los Beneficios de los Empleados en Tipton).
El calendario para el SH Beat en este periodo de tiempo será el martes 5 de noviembre, viernes 8 de noviembre y viernes 15 de noviembre.

SHS será el Anfitrión de los Juegos de Voleibol de Distrito
Los Grems serán los anfitriones del Torneo de Distrito de MSHSAA en el Gimnasio McGremlin. La ronda de apertura se jugará el lunes 28 de octubre. La final está programada para el miércoles 30 de octubre. Este promete ser acción emocionante de voleibol de bachillerato. Por favor venga a alentar a las chicas.
La Sra. Kennon me ha pedido que comparta que necesitamos ayuda en el puesto de concesión la siguiente semana durante el torneo de voleibol de distrito. Esta es una forma grandiosa de conocer a otras familias del Sagrado Corazón y de ayudar a sus estudiantes a obtener horas de servicio.
