Rachel’s Family was created two years ago to help build bonds between Sacred Heart School students. Every student from junior high to high school has a school “family” lead by a teacher that gather monthly to share, create, and build a stronger school together. Mrs. Buckley, school counselor, and Mr. Jones, dean of students, help organize events and facilitate the program.
On Thursday, January 31, 2019, Sacred Heart held its second annual Rachel’s Family Olympiad, which took place in the McGremlin gym. The games consisted of first, a tug-of-war game between two families: the second was a game in which a pair of pantyhose with a softball in one leg and the other leg placed on the student’s head was used to knock over a line of water bottles. The bottles had to be knocked over by using one’s head with no help from a student’s feet or arms. The third game was one of much skill: in this event, each family member lined up around the table topped with bowls of M&M’s and took straws, using the straws to move an M&M from one bowl to the next, one after another until the bowl at the end of the table was full. The students could only use the straws in their mouths to move the candy from one bowl to another.
The last and final event put the bragging rights to the test, with a competitive round of tug-of-war.
Mr. Jones made the students wait in anticipation throughout the day, as to when he would announce the family who had won the Olympics. Finally, over the intercom in the after school announcements, Mr. Jones announced Mrs. Starke’s family had taken the trophy home and now has bragging rights over everyone until next year.

It truly was awesome for our school to compete and show that no matter what we are doing or who’s against us, we are all one big family!
