Sports Action

Volleyball: The varsity volleyball team opened their season with a convincing straight sets victory over Fr. Tolton last night in the SH gym.  They are now 1-0 on the season and travel to Crest Ridge tomorrow evening. First serve is at 6pm. The JV girls also opened with a win over Tolton last night.

Girls Golf: The girl’s next action is Tuesday, Sept. 4 as they travel to California for a quadrangular match with a 4pm tee time.

Soccer:  The varsity boys beat Northland Christian by a score of 6-2 last night in the Barstow Tournament.  Their record is now 2-0 on the season. The Grems play Maryville at 5:45 on Thursday in the semi-final round of the tournament.

Newcomer Dallin Chappell joined the Gremlins with the expectation of competing for the starting Goalkeeper spot.  After scoring three goals in the first two games, Chappell has shown the skills to contribute on the field as well.  Two of those goals came last night against Northland Christian in the first round of the Barstow Tournament.

The Gremlin’s established possession immediately avoiding the mistakes of their first game.  With Senior Sam Bello controlling the mid-field, it only took three minutes for Dallin Chappell to receive a pass, beat two defenders off the dribble, and score in the bottom left corner.  Less than 9 minutes later, Lucas Martin extended the lead with his second goal of the season.

Always a threat when he gets the ball, Francisco Rojas once again put on a dribbling showcase, routinely beating multiple defenders for scoring opportunities.  At the 21st minute, Rojas converted his third goal of the season into the back of the net. The Gremlins finished off the first half with a precise string of passes that saw the ball go from Sam Bello, to Rojas, to Chappell for the fourth Gremlin goal.

The second half saw Jude Rollings go forward from his normal center back position to score his second goal of the season off an assist by Sam Bello.  The Gremlins conceded a Northland Christian goal, but then quickly answered off an upper 90 shot by Nolan Walker. A defensive let-down allowed Northland Christian to score a goal in the last 50 seconds to end the game 6-2.  Senior Goalkeeper Easton Webb once again made several huge saves and continues to make big strides in goal for the Grems. The Gremlins face Class 2 Maryville on Thursday night in the second round. Maryville finished with a 14-4 record last year, beating Class 1 State Champions Bishop LeBlond.

Good Afternoon All!

Due to the short week this will be the only ‘general’ option c message that we will send this week.  Normally, as the school year progresses, we will send general information on Tuesdays and Friday and only information targeted to specific groups in between.  Remember, no school Friday due to Kaysinger Conference Professional Development meetings and no school Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Live from New York, It’s Saturday Night!

Hello SH parents! Just a friendly reminder to send your auction donations to school. We have asked school families to contribute to their classroom baskets (your room parent will contact you soon about that donation and due date) and to prayerfully consider an additional donation. We are still in need of gift cards, bottles of liquor, new toys or housewares, etc. You can also send a cash donation if you’d like.

All items apart from classroom baskets should be labeled, “SH auction”, and turned in to the school office NO LATER THAN 9/14. This year’s “Saturday Night Live” themed auction is the “can’t miss” event of the year, so get your tickets before they’re gone! Please call or text Suzann Jenkins at 660-553-0024 with any questions about donations or to purchase tickets. Hope to see you there!

Lego League

The Lego League Team will conduct their initial meeting next Wednesday, September 5th from 3 to 4:30 pm in Ms. Messina’s room.  The participating students will receive an email from Ms. Messina in the very near future with important information.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Mark Register
