The Disciple’s Armor: Freshmen Disciples

September 23, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm

From Father Joe… I am blessed to have a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary and Special Education. A challenge we teachers face when we teach religion is that it cannot (or should not) be taught like any other subject.

We are not simply imparting information. Rather, we consistently introduce disciples (students) to the person of Jesus Christ, inviting them to respond in love to Jesus.  At the same time, we want disciples to help others fall in love with Jesus. The Catholic Church has many pieces of armor that can assist us in growing in our relationship with Jesus Christ. The armor helps us in the spiritual battle to choose to be Jesus’ disciple, fall in love with him and protect us from Satan’s desire that we stay distant from the person of Jesus Christ.

The Disciple’s Armor: Freshmen Disciples Receive a Prayer Journal on September 23.

Mrs. Bolin has been teaching her freshmen religion class the importance of placing God in the center of their day to day living and not keeping Him isolated to prayer time.  One of the best ways to keep God in the midst of our daily lives is to spend some time reflecting on where we have seen him and ask for him to “show up” during the daily events.  She has been teaching her students the art of journaling. A great piece of armor for God’s disciple so we can see him active in our daily lives is a prayer journal. Families of the Freshmen class are invited to the Sacred Heart Chapel on September 18 at 2pm.  This is an important faith formation moment for our students and it would be great if their parents could be there, too!
