Dear Sacred Heart Families,

On Sunday, we lit the second Advent candle. Called “Bethlehem Candle,” it is a reminder of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. Our Junior High and High School students certainly took us on a journey as they presented “Follow the Star” at the Sacred Heart Chapel on Sunday evening. Our Choir Director, Darrin Hartman, and Band Director, Christine Micheals, skillfully led our students, and they brought the spirit of Christmas to our ears.

As the festive spirit continues, we eagerly anticipate the Elementary Christmas Concert scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the McGremlin Gym. It promises to be a delightful evening of joyful melodies and holiday cheer.

Additionally, we extend a warm invitation to all for our upcoming “Little Grems” night on Friday. Join us for an enjoyable time watching high school basketball, supporting our cheer clinic, and sharing fun moments with our Little Gremlins. We look forward to welcoming everyone to these special events!

National Yearbook Program of Excellence

We are thrilled to celebrate that our Sacred Heart yearbook program has achieved the Jostens 2023 National Yearbook Program of Excellence award at the Gold Level. Our yearbook program has earned four national awards over the last six years. “My favorite part of yearbook has to be reliving all of the fun memories,” Senior Brooke Epple said.

The National Yearbook Program of Excellence recognizes engaging yearbooks representing the student body while helping students develop 21st-century skills such as communication, collaboration, and information and communication technologies (ICT) literacy. The award was presented to the Spectrum yearbook program for achieving defined criteria in three categories: creating an inclusive yearbook, generating school engagement, and successfully managing the yearbook creation process.

APC 5th grade Ice Cream Party

Last Friday the 5th grade enjoyed Blizzards courtesy of APC for selling the most APC discount cards per student in grades K-5. It was a WinWin!!  Next up will be the 7th grade for junior high and the seniors for the high school.

Computer Applications Class Goes to College

The students from the Computer Applications Class have been engaged in various activities throughout the semester, but the one that has generated the most excitement among them is the exploration of technology. They have been delving into industries where technology is utilized in remarkable and unconventional ways. The University of Central Missouri extended an invitation for the students to visit and explore their Music Technology Department. During the visit, the students had the opportunity to experience recording sessions in the sound booth, play on a Steinway piano, explore an authentic recording studio, and learn from Dr. Eric Honour, the Chair of the School of Visual and Performing Arts. This visit provided a valuable hands-on learning experience for the students.

Follow The Star

Sacred Heart Chapel was full of joyful music Sunday evening with the musical talents of the junior high and high school choir and band. Parents and parishioners alike came out to enjoy the celebration of the Holy Family.

NET Retreat

On Friday, December 8th, all the high school students gathered at the McGremlin gym for the 2023 NET Retreat, led by the NET Team. The National Evangelization Team (NET) is an organization that challenges young Catholics, through relational ministry, to follow Christ and embrace a life of community in the Church. They bring well-trained college students from around the country to inspire students with their testimonies, activities, and evident and joyful love of God. The theme for this year’s retreat was “Choose Joy.” Even though it sounds obvious that we want to choose to be joyful, our lives present many obstacles to our being closer to God, who is the only source of real and permanent joy. Social Media, especially among young people, can be one of those obstacles and can bring lots of anxiety, depression, and isolation. The retreat gave our students lots of ideas to reflect on that will help them recognize God’s immense love for them and how joyful it is to say yes to him in every circumstance.

3rd Grade Armor of God

On Friday, December 8th, during the All School Mass to celebrate the Immaculate Conception of Mary, third-grade students received their Armor of God: the scapular. The scapular is a sacramental in the Catholic Church that holds spiritual significance for believers. It consists of two small pieces of cloth or other materials connected by strings, which are worn over the shoulders as a sign of devotion and a reminder of one’s commitment to follow Christ. Sacramentals like this are believed to dispose individuals to receive the graces of the sacraments and to help them grow in holiness.

Our Lady of Guadalupe

Today, December 12th, we are celebrating the feast of our Lady of Guadalupe. We give our Mother Mary this title because of all the apparitions to Saint Juan Diego that happened in Mexico back in 1531. On top of the natural devotion we have towards Jesus’s mother and our mother, we also celebrate the fact that she is the patroness of the Americas, meaning that she is the patroness of more than 20 countries. To celebrate this important feast, the entire student body got together for an all-school Mass, knowing that our Mother is pleased to see us next to her divine son, our Lord Jesus. We pray to God through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe!

Gremlin Boys Basketball Take 1ST Place At The Pilot Grove Tournament

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys basketball team who defeated Bunceton Prairie Home to take first place in the PG tournament. Conner Brown led the way for the Grems (4-1) with 21 points, Carter Rice added 16 and Connor Rice chipped 10! Thanks to all who attended the tournament this week for all your support.

The Missouri Soccer Academic Team is a highly select group of seniors from all four classes who have excelled on the field, in their communities and in the classroom during their high school careers. Nominees are first screened for soccer excellence based on information provided by their coach of their playing success and other contributions to the team. Players that meet the criteria for soccer excellence are then evaluated academically using a combination of their GPA and ACT score (GPA x ACT). Players must also participate in more than two additional extra-curricular activities in order to be considered. The top players on this objective ranking are placed on the Academic Team. This is the second season to have a Small School (Classes 1-2) and a Large School (Classes 3-4) designation.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce the third annual AVCA Best and Brightest Awards for Girls High School Senior student-athletes. The AVCA Best & Brightest Award is an award meant to honor individual high school Senior student-athletes who excel on and off the court. To be eligible for the Best and Brightest Award, Senior student-athletes must have earned at least a 3.5 Unweighted/4.0 Weighted GPA (or the equivalent, if using a different GPA scale) during their junior year AND play in 50% of their varsity team’s sets during their senior season. Nominations for the award were completed last week.

Queridas familias del Sagrado Corazón,

El domingo encendimos el segundo cirio de Adviento. Llamada “Vela de Belén”, es un recordatorio del viaje de María y José a Belén. Nuestros estudiantes de la secundaria y High School ciertamente nos llevaron en un viaje cuando presentaron “Follow the Star” en la Capilla del Sagrado Corazón el domingo por la noche. Nuestro director de coro, Darrin Hartman, y la directora de banda, Christine Micheals, dirigieron hábilmente a nuestros estudiantes y trajeron el espíritu navideño a nuestros oídos.

Mientras continúa el espíritu festivo, anticipamos ansiosamente el concierto de Navidad de primaria programado para el miércoles a las 6:30 pm en el gimnasio McGremlin. Promete ser una velada encantadora de alegres melodías y alegría navideña.

Además, extendemos una cálida invitación a todos para nuestra próxima noche de “Little Grems” el viernes. Programa de Excelencia del Anuario Nacional

Estamos encantados de celebrar que nuestro programa del anuario del Sagrado Corazón haya obtenido el premio Jostens 2023 National Yearbook Program of Excellence en el nivel Oro. Nuestro programa de anuario ha ganado cuatro premios nacionales en los últimos seis años. “Mi parte favorita del anuario tiene que ser revivir todos los recuerdos divertidos”, dijo Brooke Epple, Senior.

El Programa de Excelencia del Anuario Nacional reconoce anuarios atractivos que representan al alumnado y al mismo tiempo ayudan a los estudiantes a desarrollar habilidades del siglo 21, como la comunicación, la colaboración y la alfabetización en tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC). El premio se entregó al programa del anuario de Spectrum por lograr criterios definidos en tres categorías: crear un anuario inclusivo, generar participación escolar y gestionar con éxito el proceso de creación del anuario.

Fiesta de helados de quinto grado de APC

El viernes pasado, el quinto grado disfrutó de Blizzards, cortesía de APC, por vender la mayor cantidad de tarjetas de descuento de APC por estudiante en los grados K-5. ¡¡Fue una situación en la que todos ganan!! El siguiente será el séptimo grado de secundaria y los seniors de high school.

La clase de aplicaciones informáticas va a la universidad

Los estudiantes de la Clase de Aplicaciones Informáticas han estado involucrados en diversas actividades a lo largo del semestre, pero la que ha generado mayor entusiasmo entre ellos es la exploración de la tecnología. Han estado profundizando en industrias donde la tecnología se utiliza de maneras notables y poco convencionales. La Universidad de Central Missouri extendió una invitación para que los estudiantes visitaran y exploraran su Departamento de Tecnología Musical. Durante la visita, los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de experimentar sesiones de grabación en la cabina de sonido, tocar en un piano Steinway, explorar un estudio de grabación auténtico y aprender del Dr. Eric Honor, presidente de la Escuela de Artes Visuales y Escénicas. Esta visita proporcionó una valiosa experiencia de aprendizaje práctico para los estudiantes.

La Capilla del Sagrado Corazón estuvo llena de música alegre el domingo por la noche con los talentos musicales del coro y la banda de la escuela secundaria y high school. Tanto los padres como los feligreses salieron a disfrutar de la celebración de la Sagrada Familia.

Retiro NET

El viernes 8 de diciembre, todos los estudiantes de high school se reunieron en el gimnasio McGremlin para el Retiro NET 2023, dirigido por el Equipo NET. El Equipo Nacional de Evangelización (NET) es una organización que desafía a los jóvenes Católicos, a través del ministerio relacional, a seguir a Cristo y abrazar una vida de comunidad en la Iglesia. Traen estudiantes universitarios bien capacitados de todo el país para inspirarlos con sus testimonios, actividades y el amor evidente y gozoso de Dios. El tema del retiro de este año fue “Elige la alegría”. Aunque parezca obvio que queremos elegir ser alegres, nuestras vidas presentan muchos obstáculos para estar más cerca de Dios, quien es la única fuente de alegría real y permanente. Las redes sociales, especialmente entre los jóvenes, pueden ser uno de esos obstáculos y generar mucha ansiedad, depresión y aislamiento. El retiro les dio a nuestros estudiantes muchas ideas para reflexionar que les ayudarán a reconocer el inmenso amor de Dios por ellos y lo gozoso que es decirle sí en cualquier circunstancia.

Armadura de Dios de tercer grado

El viernes 8 de diciembre, durante la Misa de Toda la Escuela para celebrar la Inmaculada Concepción de María, los estudiantes de tercer grado recibieron su Armadura de Dios: el escapulario. El escapulario es un sacramental en la Iglesia Católica que tiene un significado espiritual para los creyentes. Consiste en dos pequeños trozos de tela u otros materiales conectados por cuerdas, que se llevan sobre los hombros como signo de devoción y recordatorio del compromiso de seguir a Cristo. Se cree que los sacramentales como este disponen a las personas a recibir las gracias de los sacramentos y les ayudan a crecer en santidad.

Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe

Hoy, 12 de diciembre, celebramos la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Le damos este título a nuestra Madre María por todas las apariciones a San Juan Diego que sucedieron en México allá por 1531. Además de la devoción natural que tenemos hacia la madre de Jesús y nuestra madre, también celebramos el hecho de que ella es la patrona de América, lo que significa que es la patrona de más de 20 países. Para celebrar esta importante fiesta, todos los estudiantes se reunieron para una Misa para toda la escuela, sabiendo que nuestra Madre se complace en vernos al lado de su divino hijo, nuestro Señor Jesús. ¡Oramos a Dios por la intercesión de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe!

Gremlin Boys Basketball obtiene el primer lugar en el torneo Pilot Grove

Felicitaciones al equipo de baloncesto Varsity Boys que derrotó a Bunceton Prairie Home para obtener el primer lugar en el torneo PG. ¡Conner Brown abrió el camino para los Grems (4-1) con 21 puntos, Carter Rice agregó 16 y Connor Rice aportó 10! Gracias a todos los que asistieron al torneo esta semana por todo su apoyo.

El Equipo Académico de Fútbol de Missouri es un grupo altamente selecto de estudiantes de seniors de las cuatro clases que se han destacado en el campo, en sus comunidades y en el salón durante sus carreras en high school. Los nominados primero son evaluados por su excelencia futbolística basándose en la información proporcionada por su entrenador sobre su éxito como juego y otras contribuciones al equipo. Los jugadores que cumplen con los criterios de excelencia futbolística son evaluados académicamente utilizando una combinación de su GPA y su puntuación ACT (GPA x ACT). Los jugadores también deben participar en más de dos actividades extracurriculares adicionales para ser considerados. Los mejores jugadores en esta clasificación objetiva se ubican en el Equipo Académico. Esta es la segunda temporada que tiene la designación de Escuela Pequeña (Clases 1-2) y Escuela Grande (Clases 3-4).

La Asociación Estadounidense de Entrenadores de Voleibol (AVCA) se enorgullece de anunciar la tercera edición anual de los premios AVCA Best and Brightest Awards para estudiantes-atletas de último año de secundaria. No olvide que tenemos varios  SÓLO disponibles a través de la oficina (es decir, Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens y VISA, por nombrar algunos). Visite la oficina de la escuela los martes y jueves durante nuestro horario de atención voluntaria de 9:00 a. m. a 11:00 a. m. para compras inmediatas, o deje su pedido en la oficina de la escuela o envíelo por correo electrónico al coordinador del programa. Nuestros voluntarios completarán su pedido los martes y jueves y le informarán cuando esté disponible para ser recogido. RaiseRight estará en todas las Misas el 17 de diciembre.
