Good Afternoon Everyone and Happy First Friday of the New Semester!
We are back in session and the January calendar is chock full. One of the exciting events of every January is Winter Homecoming and spirit week. Winter homecoming this year is on Friday, January 20 when our Grems welcome the Otterville Eagles to the McGremlin Gym. Please be looking for a lot more information on the game, the events of the evening and all of the Spirit Week hoopla in upcoming Beats!
What I am excited to announce today is a post game reception for parents and alumni in the Hoying Gym after the game on the 20th. The Alumni Association is sponsoring this event and we are looking forward to a great time. Here are some of the details:
When: Friday night January 20th after the Homecoming game
Where: Hoying Gym
Who: SHS Parents & Alumni
(Although this is an adults only event, the Sacred Heart senior class will be providing child care in the main gym for a free will donation. Proceeds from this go towards the Senior Mission Trip.)
What: Food, refreshments and wonderful fellowship. The Booster Club will also have vintage
uniforms available to look at and purchase!

Welcome back and Happy New Year! It has been a great 3 days back to school starting the second semester.
I am proud of the work ethic from our students and their final grades for the first semester. First semester report cards will be sent electronically today! Please look for those in your email.
Sound of Music Auditions
Ready to be in the spotlight? Auditions for the spring musical, “The Sound of Music”, will be held on Tuesday, January 10 beginning at 3:30pm in the Music Room. These auditions are for middle school and high school students only. Students do not need to prepare anything. Please see Miss Turner or Mr. Harman with any questions.
Kindergarten Screening
It’s time to look forward to the 23-24 school year! Kindergarten screening dates have been set for Feb 9, 2023 and Feb 10, 2023 for all students entering Kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year. The Death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, December 31, 2022
As most of you are aware, Pope Benedict stunned the world when he announced his resignation as pope in February of 2013. From March 13, 2013 when Pope Francis was named his successor until December 31, 2022, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI resided in Rome. In a very rare instance, on Thursday, January 5, 2023, one pope, Pope Francis will preside over the funeral of a retired pope, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. Our diocese along with many other dioceses throughout the World will continue the ritual of mourning for nine days following the funeral Mass. We will continue to pray for him in our petitions at Mass; we will offer a Mass of Remembrance at Sacred Heart at 10am on Saturday January 14 and the students will come together to pray the rosary, as every Catholic school in our diocese has been instructed to do. First Communion Parent Meeting
Parents of Children who will make First Communion in May 2023 will meet on Thursday January 12 in the Music Room of School. English Session at 6pm and Spanish Session at 7pm. Just a few pointers for all of us to remember: Adoration Chapel is available Tuesdays 9am-9pm, Thursdays 9am-9pm and Fridays 9am – 5:50 with Benediction at 5:50pm. This is a wonderful place to come pray before our Lord. In these sessions we will remind parents to teach their children to come forward with hands folded across their chest for a blessing if they are not Catholic. If they are Catholic and receiving communion, to make a throne for our Lord (St. Ambrose) with their hands and say “Amen” in an audible voice when they receive. To place the host in their mouth before they turn away from the person giving them the Eucharist and for them to walk back to the pew with their hands folded. While in line to receive and walking back from receiving, to give God thanks for this tremendous gift when the Infinite enters the finite. I offer these things for each of us to contemplate as we go to Mass and receive Eucharist.

XLT Adoration
On Tuesday, January 10th, all students will have the opportunity to go to Adoration during their Religion class. During Adoration, students and Religion teachers spend time in front of Jesus in the Eucharist in personal and collective prayer. Some sing, some pray the Rosary, and some spend their time in mental prayer, but we all come to Jesus to adore him and express our love to him. This is a beautiful and fruitful tradition that we are very pleased to experience together once a month. He loved us first, and we are happy to love him back with our words and actions. XLT Adoration also serves as a fount of energy and inspiration for the fulfillment of our duties. Like a car that has to stop to get gas, we need to stop and spend some time with him, knowing that he enjoys the time with us as well.
Happy New Years, we are looking forward to a great 2023 for all of our programs at Sacred Heart!

HEART CHECK SCREENING FOR YOUTH ATHLETES
The health and safety of your student is a top priority for all of us! That is why we want to keep
you informed when valuable health services are made available to our families. Although SAcred Heart does not endorse specific organizations, I wanted to share this offering with you courtesy of our friends from Lincoln School District.
On Saturday, Feburary 25th, My HeartCheck will be at Lincoln High School providing their
comprehensive heart assessments for local families. This program is the national leader in
youth heart screenings operated by highly trained medical professionals and overseen by
pediatric cardiologists. My HeartCheck has tested over 13,000 kids, regularly finding heart
conditions that could have gone undetected and caused serious health concerns. Through
special arrangements with Devon’s Beat, HeartChecks are being offered to anyone ages 8 to 25
for FREE, normally $1500.Pre-registration and a $20 deposit to hold your appointment is required.
A refund of your $20 deposit will be provided when you arrive for your appointment time.

Please join us next Friday, January 13th, for our first meeting of 2023, in the Sacred Heart Parish Center from 8am – 9am. We will be planning events for Catholic Schools Week (CSW), specifically student appreciation day and the teacher/staff luncheon. This luncheon is one of the great ways we show our teachers and faculty how much we appreciate everything they do to make Sacred Heart School a wonderful place for our children to learn and grow in their faith. We’ll also discuss any new teacher request, as well as new family oriented events coming this spring. We need your ideas!!

¡Buenas Tardes a Todos y Feliz Primer Viernes del Nuevo Semestre!
Estamos de vuelta en sesión y el calendario de enero está repleto. Uno de los eventos más emocionantes de cada mes de enero es Homecoming de invierno y la semana del espíritu. Audiciones para Sound of Music

La muerte del Papa Emérito Benedicto XVI, 31 de diciembre de 2022
Como la mayoría de ustedes saben, el Papa Benedicto sorprendió al mundo cuando anunció su renuncia como Papa en febrero de 2013. Desde el 13 de marzo de 2013, cuando el Papa Francisco fue nombrado su sucesor, hasta el 31 de diciembre de 2022, el Papa Emérito Benedicto XVI residió en Roma. En un caso muy raro, el jueves 5 de enero de 2023, un Papa, el Papa Francisco, presidirá el funeral de un Papa jubilado, el Papa Emérito Benedicto XVI. Nuestra diócesis, junto con muchas otras diócesis en todo el mundo, continuará con el ritual de duelo durante nueve días después de la Misa de funeral. Reunión de padres para la Primera Comunión
Los padres de los niños que harán la Primera Comunión en mayo de 2023 se reunirán el jueves 12 de enero en el Salón de Música de la escuela. Sesión en inglés a las 6:00 pm y sesión en español a las 7:00 pm. Solo algunos consejos para que todos recordemos: la Capilla de Adoración está disponible los martes de 9:00 am a 9:00 pm, los jueves de 9:00 am a 9:00 pm y los viernes de 9:00 am a 5:50 pm con la bendición a las 5:50 pm. Este es un lugar maravilloso para venir a orar ante nuestro Señor. En estas sesiones recordaremos a los padres que enseñen a sus hijos a presentarse con las manos cruzadas sobre el pecho para recibir una bendición si no son católicos. Si son católicos y están comulgando, hacer un trono para nuestro Señor (San Ambrosio) con sus manos y decir “Amén” en voz audible cuando reciban. Colocar la hostia en su boca antes de que se aparten de la persona que les da la Eucaristía y que caminen de regreso al banco con las manos cruzadas. Estando en la fila para recibir y volviendo de recibir, para dar gracias a Dios por este tremendo regalo cuando el Infinito entra en lo finito. Ofrezco estas cosas para que cada uno de nosotros las contemple mientras vamos a Misa y recibimos la Eucaristía.

Adoración XLT
El martes 10 de enero, todos los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de ir a la Adoración durante su clase de Religión. Durante la Adoración, los estudiantes y profesores de Religión pasan tiempo frente a Jesús en la Eucaristía en oración personal y colectiva. Algunos cantan, algunos rezan el Rosario, y algunos pasan su tiempo en oración mental, pero todos venimos a Jesús para adorarlo y expresarle nuestro amor. Esta es una hermosa y fructífera tradición que estamos muy contentos de vivir juntos una vez al mes. Él nos amó primero, y estamos felices de amarlo con nuestras palabras y acciones. Adoración XLT también sirve como fuente de energía e inspiración para el cumplimiento de nuestros deberes. Como un automóvil que tiene que detenerse para cargar gasolina, debemos detenernos y pasar un tiempo con él, sabiendo que él también disfruta el tiempo con nosotros.

Noche de alumnos de último grado – Porrismo y celebrar la clase del 2023!

McDonald’s se ha unido al programa nacional, pero nuestra marca local de McDonald’s sigue siendo la mejor opción al comprar tarjetas de regalo físicas a través de la aplicación RaiseRight. Elija McDonalds $5 – Local y/o McDonalds $10 – Local para asegurarse de obtener el mejor reembolso (5% en lugar del 2% con la cadena nacional).
Nuestro próximo pedido interno de tarjetas de regalo físicas será el lunes 9 de enero. Todos los pedidos enviados a la oficina de la escuela al final de la escuela, o a través de la aplicación RaiseRight antes de las 8:00 pm del día 9, se incluirán en el pedido. Los pedidos deben estar listos para ser recogidos la semana siguiente.
No olvide que tenemos varios minoristas SOLO disponibles a través de la oficina (es decir, Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens y VISA, por nombrar algunos). Acérquese durante nuestro horario de voluntariado los martes y jueves de 9:30 a. m. a 11 a. m. para compras inmediatas, o deje su pedido en la oficina o envíelo por correo electrónico a scrip@gogremlins.com. Nuestros voluntarios llenarán su pedido y le avisarán cuando esté disponible para recogerlo. RaiseRight estará disponible en todas las misas este domingo.
