Advent greetings!

This time of year is abundantly busy but how blessed we are to have a student schedule full of activities! From hitting the shots at the basketball games to the high notes at the annual Follow the Star concert, I’m once again so very proud of our students and grateful for our families who support them with these many endeavors. This beat is full of celebrations and important dates to help everyone finish this semester strong.

Please encourage your children to focus and prepare well for their semester exams.  If you have little ones we look forward to seeing you at tomorrow night’s Christmas concert.  It will be delightful!  Thank you for your continued prayer, support and partnership!

We Celebrate Sister Mary Ruth

Mary gave us the example of quiet, faithful devotion to God: a life of service, humility, piety, and extraordinary effectiveness. If it weren’t for Mary’s quiet and steadfast disposition to do the will of God, our rendition wouldn’t have taken place. If it weren’t for the quiet and steadfast disposition of all the religious sisters, like Sister Mary Ruth, around the world, God only knows where we would be. We can be certain, though, that their faith, smiles, tender hearts, and hard work have brought all sorts of blessings to the world and our communities. We thank Sister Mary Ruth for her devotion and dedication, for her hard work and countless hours of service and faithful testimony. Thank you, Sister Mary Ruth for all you have done, the love and faith you have put into what you do, the amazing testimony of Christian life, and for being such a positive, energizing, and exemplary member of the Sacred Heart Family.

Elementary Service Projects

The first through fifth grade classes are preparing blessing bags again this year for our parishioners 80 years and older. We are assembling the bags this week and on Friday 120 bags will go home with 18 families who will then deliver the goodies during the next week. We love sharing joy with our fellow parishioners!

Hands and Feet of Jesus

This year Mrs. Fulcher’s freshman religion class has done weekly lessons on being the hands and feet of Jesus. This week students stood outside the school and passed out notes of encouragement to passers-byer. Pictured in Delaney Grose, Mary Butner and Gabe Malacara.

Christmas Cards for the Elderly Parishioners

For >80 parishioners Mrs. Fulcher’s classes created 186 Christmas cards for our elderly parishioners for the 2022 Christmas season.

All School Mass for The Immaculate Conception

Once again we came together at Mass to celebrate the Immaculate Conception of our Blessed Mother. Her Immaculate Conception marked the beginning of Mary’s life and vocation. As father Joe mentioned during the homily, this special gift did not mean that Mary was incapable of sinning, and yet, she did not, giving us the most excellent example, after her Son, Jesus. It is always exciting to see the whole student body, all the staff, and the administration together honoring our Mother. She appreciates our devotion and keeps granting us countless graces from her Son. Thank you, Mother, for your FIAT (Latin for “yes” or “thy will be done”), because your good disposition made our redemption possible.

Winter Sports Mass

As a ministry of Saint Vincent de Paul, Sacred Heart School has taken the responsibility to help parents educate their children in strong Catholic faith, excellent academics, and competitive sports. This past Sunday we came together to celebrate our winter athletes in the context of what we hold most dear, the Holy Mass. Coaches, athletes, family members, staff and administration, we all came together at Saint Patrick’s to celebrate this important part of our spirit. Everybody was very excited because we did this during Mass in Spanish. For some of our students, this was the first time they had been to Mass in Spanish and they were thrilled to see and hear something “different” from what they were used to. One of them said to me after Mass: “Mr. Gonzalez, I did not understand much, but I loved it. We should do this more often.” In the end, our celebration of winter sports became a double celebration: our athletes and their persistent effort to do their bes,t and the beautiful unity and diversity of our parish, Saint Vincent de Paul.

Novena and Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

The Novena (Ninth) came to its end as we celebrated Our Lady of Guadalupe. The piety of hundreds of devoted parishioners who came together throughout the nine days to pray the Rosary, both in English and Spanish, was evident and touching. Our Lady of Guadalupe took all those prayers into the hands of her Son, Jesus, and obtained from him countless graces for the good of our parish and its people. On Monday, this maternal feast came to its apex during the celebration of Holy Mass. Saint Patrick’s was specially adorned for the occasion and, as usual, was the stage for a familiar and vast gathering of faithful sons and daughters who wanted to express their devotion and love. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness for the Americas and to her we go imploring her help. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.

Weekly Advent Service at SHS

Christmas is around the corner. Carols, decorations, lights, trees, ornaments, music… it all fills the air and the hearts of parents, students, teachers, and everybody that is part of the Sacred Heart Community. But, we want to receive the coming of our Savior with clean and steadfast hearts, and for that, we have been working during Advent season with devotions, intentions, and good deeds. For instance, we come together once a week around the Advent wreath to stop and pray. One by one, we light the candles that announce the proximity of His coming. Following the liturgy our Church presents to us, we read and ponder the Word of the Lord and prepare our hearts, souls, and bodies because we want Mary, Joseph, and the Baby Jesus to find a clean and welcoming home in our hearts. We keep waiting and praying as we face the last week of classes and finals: help us, O Lord, to finish this semester applying ourselves to rigorous study so we can successfully complete our finals. Amen.

This week kicked off with a celebration for senior Kate Carney who has signed to attend Kansas State this fall and will join the rowing team. This Division 1 team practices in a state-of-the art rowing facility and is currently under the direction of head coach Patrick Sweeney.  Due to NCAA restrictions the coach was not able to be present) (https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-rowing)

Since joining SHS in 2017, Kate has been a stand out student and multi-sport athlete, participating in volleyball, basketball, track & field, choir, math team and previously golf, swing and dive. Kate brings determination and perseverance into everything that she does and is always willing to take on a new sport. These Wildcats are gaining a great Gremlin!

Pilot Grove Tournament Results

Last week both the Boys and Girls basketball teams competed in the Pilot Grove Classic Tournament. Both teams suffered only one loss for the duration of the tournament. The boys team brought home second place while the girls brought home a win in the consultation game. Great job, GREMS!

Congratulations to our Hall of Fame Class of 2023!

On behalf of the Hall of Fame selection committee, it’s my honor to share with you the inductees to our Sacred Heart School Hall of Fame Class of 2023! Our celebration of these special individuals will take place Saturday, April 29, in the McGremlin Gym.

Jim ‘53 and Pat (Ryan ‘53) Fall – Jim and Pat are both proud members of the SHS Class of 1953. They have been faithful lifelong parishioners at Sacred Heart and St. Vincent de Paul Parish. Seven of their six children are SHS graduates and two of their great-grandchildren attend SHS. Throughout the years of parish and school life, the Falls – through faith and action – have been with us every step of the way.

Tom Jennewein – Coach Jennewein joined the SHS in faculty in 1974. Since that time, he would accumulate nearly 20 years as a coach and faculty member at SHS and even more years as a mentor and coach to aspiring athletes. While life has taken Coach to various places, SHS is a place he calls home.

Ken Mosier ‘70 – Ken attended Sacred Heart School from first through the 12th grade graduating in 1970. He credits the faith and academics learned at SHS as a foundation for his successful career and servant’s heart. He and his wife live in Minnesota, but they continue to be champions for SHS in many ways.

Mark Register ‘75 – Dr. Mark Register came to Sacred Heart School as a sophomore in the fall of 1972, graduating in the class of 1975. He pursued a career in education, and it wasn’t long before he felt a calling to return to SHS. He has spent 33 of his 43-year career at SHS. His unwavering commitment to his faith and to his school and parish has been instrumental in countless milestone moments that have advanced the mission and vision of Sacred Heart School.

Karolyn Spears ‘65 – Karolyn (Lamb) Spears is a 1965 graduate of Sacred Heart School. She entered SHS in 2nd grade and stayed through graduation. Her active involvement as a student was a foreshadowing of the energy and support she infuses into the life of the school and parish. One is hard-pressed to find a committee or volunteer activity that Karolyn hasn’t been on. Her willingness to serve has kept the heartbeat of our school and parish strong for many years.

The Sacred Heart Foundation was created as a not-for-profit corporation on June 14, 1979.  The foresight and dedication of these gentlemen, comprising the original Foundation Board, in creating an entity for the sole purpose of ensuring the long-term growth and sustainability of Sacred Heart School was remarkable, and no doubt driven by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. SHS has survived and thrived in great part to the SHS Foundation. Since its founding, the Sacred Heart Foundation has cultivated and gifted well over 5 million dollars to the school and has created an endowment that has grown to more than 3.3 million dollars today.

RaiseRight Last Minute Shopping

Christmas is almost here … it’s not too late to get your last minute shopping done and earn rebates at the same time. New this year, you can send egift cards as gifts through the app. When you are purchasing an electronic gift card there is a box under the amount to indicate you want to send it as a gift via email. You can even select a specific date for delivery!  It’s one more option to gift giving using the RaiseRight app.

Our next in house order for physical gift cards will be Monday, January 9th. All orders submitted to the school office by the end of school, or through the RaiseRight app by 8pm, on the 9th will be included in the order. Orders should be ready for pick-up the following week.

 Don’t forget we have several retailers ONLY available through the office (i.e. Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens, and VISA to name a few). Come in during our volunteer open hours on Tuesday & Thursday from 9:30am – 11am for immediate purchases, or drop your order at the office or email it to scrip@gogremlins.com. ¡Saludos de Adviento!

Esta época del año está muy ocupada, ¡pero qué bendecidos somos de tener un horario estudiantil lleno de actividades! Desde hacer los tiros en los juegos de baloncesto hasta las notas altas en el concierto anual Follow the Star, una vez más estoy muy orgulloso de nuestros estudiantes y agradecido por nuestras familias que los apoyan con todos estos esfuerzos. Este ritmo está lleno de celebraciones y fechas importantes para ayudar a todos a terminar este semestre con fuerza.

Anime a sus hijos a concentrarse y prepararse bien para sus exámenes semestrales. Si tiene pequeños los esperamos en el concierto de navidad de mañana por la noche. ¡Será grandioso! ¡Gracias por su continua oración, apoyo y colaboración!

Celebramos a la Hermana Mary Ruth

Mary nos dio el ejemplo de una devoción tranquila y fiel a Dios: una vida de servicio, humildad, piedad y extraordinaria eficacia. Si no fuera por la disposición tranquila y firme de Mary para hacer la voluntad de Dios, nuestra rendición no habría tenido lugar. Si no fuera por la disposición tranquila y firme de todas las religiosas, como la hermana Mary Ruth, en todo el mundo, solo Dios sabe dónde estaríamos. Sin embargo, podemos estar seguros de que su fe, sonrisas, corazones tiernos y trabajo arduo han traído todo tipo de bendiciones al mundo y a nuestras comunidades. Agradecemos a la Hermana Mary Ruth por su devoción y dedicación, por su arduo trabajo e innumerables horas de servicio y fiel testimonio. Gracias Hermana Mary Ruth por todo lo que ha hecho, el amor y la fe que ha puesto en lo que hace, el asombroso testimonio de vida cristiana y por ser un miembro tan positivo, energizante y ejemplar de la Familia del Sagrado Corazón.

Elementary Service Projects

Las clases de primero a quinto grado están preparando bolsas de bendición nuevamente este año para nuestros feligreses de 80 años o más. Estamos armando las bolsas esta semana y el viernes 120 bolsas irán a casa con 18 familias que luego entregarán las golosinas durante la próxima semana. ¡Nos encanta compartir alegría con nuestros compañeros feligreses!

Hands and Feet of Jesus

Misa escolar por la Inmaculada Concepción

Una vez más nos reunimos en Misa para celebrar la Inmaculada Concepción de nuestra Santísima Madre. Su Inmaculada Concepción marcó el comienzo de la vida y vocación de María. Como mencionó el padre Joe durante la homilía, este don especial no significaba que María fuera incapaz de pecar y, sin embargo, no lo hizo, dándonos el ejemplo más excelente, después de su Hijo, Jesús. Siempre es emocionante ver a todo el alumnado, todo el personal y la administración juntos honrando a nuestra Madre. Ella aprecia nuestra devoción y sigue concediéndonos innumerables gracias de su Hijo. Gracias, Madre, por tu FIAT (del latín “sí” o “hágase tu voluntad”), porque tu buena disposición hizo posible nuestra redención.

Misa de deportes de invierno

Cómo ministerio de San Vicente de Paúl, la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón ha asumido la responsabilidad de ayudar a los padres a educar a sus hijos en una fuerte fe católica, excelentes estudios académicos y deportes competitivos. El domingo pasado nos reunimos para celebrar a nuestros atletas de invierno en el contexto de lo que más apreciamos, la Santa Misa. Entrenadores, atletas, familiares, personal y administración, todos nos reunimos en San Patricio para celebrar esta parte importante de nuestro espíritu. Todos estaban muy emocionados porque hicimos esto durante la misa en español. Para algunos de nuestros estudiantes, esta fue la primera vez que asistieron a Misa en español y estaban encantados de ver y escuchar algo “diferente” de lo que estaban acostumbrados. Uno de ellos me dijo después de Misa: “Sr. Gonzalez, no entendí mucho, pero me encantó. Deberíamos hacer esto más seguido.” Al final, nuestra celebración de los deportes de invierno se convirtió en una celebración doble: nuestros atletas y su persistente esfuerzo por dar lo mejor de sí mismos y la hermosa unidad y diversidad de nuestra parroquia, San Vicente de Paúl.

Novena y Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe

La Novena llegó a su fin mientras celebramos a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. La piedad de cientos de devotos feligreses que se reunieron durante los nueve días para rezar el Rosario, tanto en inglés como en español, fue evidente y conmovedora. Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe tomó todas esas oraciones en manos de su Hijo, Jesús, y obtuvo de él innumerables gracias para el bien de nuestra parroquia y su gente. El lunes, esta fiesta maternal llegó a su punto álgido durante la celebración de la Santa Misa. San Patricio se adornó especialmente para la ocasión y, como es habitual, fue escenario de una reunión familiar y numerosa de hijos e hijas fieles que quisieron expresar su devoción. y amor. Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe es la Patrona de las Américas y a ella acudimos implorando su ayuda. Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, ruega por nosotros.

Servicio Semanal de Adviento en SHS

La Navidad está a la vuelta de la esquina. Villancicos, decoraciones, luces, árboles, adornos, música… Todo llena el aire y el corazón de padres, alumnos, maestros y todos los que formamos parte de la Comunidad Sagrado Corazón. Pero queremos recibir la venida de nuestro Salvador con corazones limpios y firmes, y para eso hemos estado trabajando durante el tiempo de Adviento con devociones, intenciones y buenas obras. Por ejemplo, nos reunimos una vez a la semana alrededor de la corona de Adviento para detenernos y orar. Una a una, encendemos las velas que anuncian la proximidad de Su venida. Siguiendo la liturgia que nos presenta nuestra Iglesia, leemos y meditamos la Palabra del Señor y preparamos nuestros corazones, almas y cuerpos porque queremos que María, José y el Niño Jesús encuentren un hogar limpio y acogedor en nuestros corazones. Seguimos esperando y orando mientras enfrentamos  la última semana de clases y exámenes finales: ayúdanos, Señor, a terminar este semestre aplicándonos al estudio riguroso para poder culminar con éxito nuestros exámenes finales. Amén.

Esta semana comenzó con una celebración para la estudiante de duodécimo grado Kate Carney, quien firmó para asistir a Kansas State este otoño y se unirá al equipo de remo. Este equipo de la División 1 practica en una instalación de remo de última generación y actualmente está bajo la dirección del entrenador en jefe Patrick Sweeney. Desde que se unió a SHS en 2017, Kate ha sido una estudiante destacada y atleta multideportiva, participando en voleibol, baloncesto, atletismo, coro, equipo de matemáticas y anteriormente en golf, swing y buceo. Kate aporta determinación y perseverancia a todo lo que hace y siempre está dispuesta a participar en un nuevo deporte. ¡Estos Wildcats están ganando un gran Gremlin!

Resultados del Torneo Pilot Grove

La semana pasada, los equipos de baloncesto masculino y femenino compitieron en el Torneo Clásico Pilot Grove. Ambos equipos sufrieron solo una derrota durante la duración del torneo. El equipo de niños se llevó a casa el segundo lugar mientras que las niñas se llevaron a casa una victoria en el juego de consulta. ¡Buen trabajo, GREMS!

¡Felicitaciones a nuestra Clase del Salón de la Fama de 2023!

¡En nombre del comité de selección del Salón de la Fama, es un honor para mí compartir con ustedes los miembros de nuestra Clase del 2023 del Salón de la Fama de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón! Nuestra celebración de estas personas especiales tendrá lugar el sábado 29 de abril en el gimnasio McGremlin.

Jim ‘53 y Pat (Ryan ‘53) Fall – Jim y Pat son miembros orgullosos de la generación de SHS de 1953. Han sido fieles feligreses de toda la vida en la parroquia del Sagrado Corazón y San Vicente de Paúl. Siete de sus seis hijos son graduados de SHS y dos de sus bisnietos asisten a SHS. A lo largo de los años de vida parroquial y escolar, los Fall, a través de la fe y la acción, han estado con nosotros en cada paso del camino.

Tom Jennewein – El entrenador Jennewein se unió a SHS en la facultad en 1974. Desde entonces, acumularía casi 20 años como entrenador y miembro de la facultad en SHS e incluso más años como mentor y entrenador de atletas aspirantes. Si bien la vida ha llevado a Coach a varios lugares, SHS es un lugar al que llama hogar.

Ken Mosier ‘70 – Ken asistió a la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón desde primero hasta el grado 12 y se graduó en 1970. Él acredita la fe y los estudios académicos aprendidos en SHS como la base de su exitosa carrera y su corazón de siervo. Él y su esposa viven en Minnesota, pero continúan siendo campeones de SHS de muchas maneras.

Mark Register ‘75 – El Dr. Mark Register llegó a la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón como estudiante de décimo grado en el otoño de 1972 y se graduó en la clase de 1975. Siguió una carrera en educación y no pasó mucho tiempo antes de que sintiera el llamado de regresar a SHS. Ha pasado 33 de sus 43 años de carrera en SHS. Su compromiso inquebrantable con su fe y con su escuela y parroquia ha sido fundamental en innumerables momentos importantes que han hecho avanzar la misión y la visión de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón.

Karolyn Spears ‘65 – Karolyn (Lamb) Spears se graduó en 1965 de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón. Ingresó a SHS en segundo grado y se quedó hasta la graduación. Su participación activa como estudiante fue un presagio de la energía y el apoyo que infunde en la vida de la escuela y la parroquia. Es difícil encontrar un comité o una actividad voluntaria en la que Karolyn no haya estado. Su voluntad de servir ha mantenido fuerte el latido del corazón de nuestra escuela y parroquia durante muchos años.

La Fundación Sagrado Corazón fue creada como una corporación sin fines de lucro el 14 de junio de 1979. La previsión y dedicación de estos señores, que integran el Patronato de la Fundación original, en crear una entidad con el único propósito de asegurar el crecimiento a largo plazo y la sostenibilidad de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón fue notable, y sin duda impulsada por la inspiración del Espíritu Santo. SHS ha sobrevivido y prosperado en gran parte gracias a la Fundación SHS. Desde su fundación, la Fundación del Sagrado Corazón ha cultivado y donado más de 5 millones de dólares a la escuela y ha creado una dotación que ha crecido a más de 3.3 millones de dólares en la actualidad.

La Navidad ya casi está aquí… no es demasiado tarde para hacer sus compras de última hora y obtener descuentos al mismo tiempo. Como novedad este año, puede enviar tarjetas de regalo electrónicas como obsequio a través de la aplicación. Cuando compra una tarjeta de regalo electrónica, hay una casilla debajo del monto para indicar que desea enviarla como regalo por correo electrónico. ¡Incluso puede seleccionar una fecha específica para la entrega! Es una opción más para regalar usando la aplicación RaiseRight.

Nuestro próximo pedido interno de tarjetas de regalo físicas será el lunes 9 de enero. Todos los pedidos enviados a la oficina de la escuela antes del final de la escuela, o a través de la aplicación RaiseRight antes de las 8:00 pm del día 9, se incluirán en el pedido. Los pedidos deben estar listos para ser recogidos la semana siguiente.

No olvide que tenemos varios minoristas SOLO disponibles a través de la oficina (es decir, Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens y VISA, por nombrar algunos). Acérquese durante nuestro horario de voluntariado los martes y jueves de 9:30 a. m. a 11 a. m. para compras inmediatas, o deje su pedido en la oficina o envíelo por correo electrónico a scrip@gogremlins.com. Nuestros voluntarios llenarán su pedido y le avisarán cuando esté disponible para recogerlo. RaiseRight estará disponible en todas las misas este domingo 13 de noviembre.
