Good Afternoon Everyone,

First semester is RAPIDLY drawing to a close and the enrollment season for 23-24 has begun.  Families should have received their invitation to enroll on Friday, November 17th. The email came from Sacred Heart School and the subject line stated “Re-enrollment is Open”.  If you have not seen this important communication you might check your spam files.

Here is a quick reminder on how the process plays out:

The FACTS Application window for the 2023-2024 school year opened on Monday, NOVEMBER 21!  Parents asked for adjustments to be made in the enrollment process and improvements were made!

Here are a few reminders:

• All families will be able to use the 2021 tax returns to complete the application.

• The grant/aid application fee, SIS fees and FACTS online enrollment forms are all included in the enrollment processing fee for the 2023-2024 school year.

• All families meeting the deadline of January 20, 2023 will receive the discounted enrollment processing fee of $150 if the enrollment contract is completed by March 31, 2023.

• As of April 1, 2023 the enrollment processing fee moves to $225 per family.  On June 1, 2023 the enrollment processing fee becomes $300.  These are non-refundable fees and will NOT be applied to tuition.  (These dates apply to the full completion of the enrollment process.)

• To be eligible for named scholarships the FACTS Aid and Award application must be submitted by January 20, 2023.

• The cost to educate a student for 2023-2024 will be:

  • K-5 $6,771

  • 6-12 $8,335

• Every family that completes the FACTS Aid & Award application will receive some level of assistance based on their individual situation.

• If you do not wish to request tuition assistance, please notify Shari Brown, Finance Director, at sbrown@gogremlins.com of your intent to enroll.

This timeline is designed to help us be proactive when we see that we have teacher needs to fill, allowing us to recruit and attain the best teaching talent possible for our students. We also hope that this helps each of you as you plan for your household budgets moving forward.  As always, it is an honor and a pleasure to serve your family!

High School Leadership #ICANHELP

Student Council officers and class presidents went to Odessa to learn how to educate and empower their peers to promote the good use of technology, while making a positive impact, in an effort to prevent cyberbullying. It was a fun day for collaboration. The students will be making a plan to share this information with their peers next semester. A big thank you to the Missouri Association of Student Councils and Odessa High School for hosting this event!

On Saturday evening, the high school choir students bundled up and performed a variety of Christmas carols for the community prior to the start of the Sedalia Christmas Parade. The Sacred Heart choir students also kicked off the parade with the singing of the National Anthem.

Freshmen Mass on November 19th

Once a month, different groups of students get together to attend one of the Masses we have as parishioners at Saint Vincent de Paul Parish. Last time, Freshmen went to Saint John on Saturday, November 19th, to attend the 7:30 pm Saturday Mass. When students go as a group, they get to serve, read, and take active participation in the Mass. This helps them, and the parishioners, understand and see that Sacred Heart School is an inseparable ministry of Saint Vincent de Paul. It also gives the students the opportunity to express their thankfulness for the congregation’s support with their actions. In addition, students get the chance to see different faces since some of them regularly attend a different Mass. This time, some students were amazed because it was the first time they had been to Saint John’s, and they did not know “it was so far away.” After Mass, they were happy and expressed their desire to do this again.

8th-Grade Regional Retreat

On November 17th, our 8th graders had the amazing opportunity to be part of the 8th-Grade Regional Retreat hosted at Sacred Heart School. Students from Boonville and Pilot Grove came to join our 8th graders in the day-long retreat led by the Catholic family band MJM7. MJM7 is a well-known Catholic family band in Sacred Heart because they have been performing the exciting School Concert for the last few years, bringing music, fun, praising, and praying together. During the 8th Grade Regional Retreat, students got to play and explore the love of God and the way we, as children of God, are called to respond to that love. The day continued with many fun activities, prayers, testimonies, etc. Michael Mette and his children did a fantastic job leading this retreat with enthusiasm and joy. The day after the retreat, one of our 8th graders stated that it was an “amazingly fun day… it is very nice to pray and have fun at the same time. It makes me feel the love of God towards us and the fact that he is happy with us.”

Healing Rosary

Sacred Heart School started the monthly Rosary to support and help our alumnus Coen Brown in his battle against cancer. God, through the intercession of his Blessed Mother, heard our prayer and healed Coen of the cancer itself. He still has a long way to go, and as he does so, we continue to go to Our Blessed Mother Mary asking her to intercede for us before her Son, Our Lord. As we move forward, we also include Mandy Belsha, Erin Rogers, and Katie Pettis in our prayers so they can also obtain health and assistance for themselves and their families. Please join us in the prayer of the Healing Rosary on Wednesday the 14th at 3:15 pm at Sacred Heart Chapel. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Update on The Novena

The Novena is going on as expected. Lots of people have gathered together to pray the Rosary to our Blessed Mother as a way to get ready for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The prayer of our parishioners goes to heaven in both Spanish and English as we join together as one. It is always amazing to see how the love for our Mother brings people together as children of the same father and mother. Six more days are left, and I wanted to extend the invitation for everybody to join us in praying the Holy Rosary to our Lady of Guadalupe.

Feast of Saint Nicholas

Today, we celebrate the Feast of Saint Nicholas. This feast is celebrated as a Christian festival with particular regard to Saint Nicholas’ reputation as a bringer of gifts, as well as through attending church services. In the European countries of Germany and Poland, boys have traditionally dressed as bishops and begged for alms for the poor. In Poland and Ukraine, children wait for St. Nicholas to come and put a present under their pillows, under the condition that the children were good during the year. In the Netherlands and Belgium, children put out a shoe filled with hay and a carrot for Saint Nicholas’s horse. All these customs have been built into some of the Christmas traditions we celebrate in America. Santa Claus is, then, a character based on Saint Nicholas and his ministry of service. His feast invites us to wait for the upcoming of our Lord in Christmas and keep our hearts steadfast despite the rush typically associated with this holiday.

Job Duties

• Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician.

• Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities.

 Don’t forget we have several retailers ONLY available through the office (i.e. Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD,  Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens, and VISA to name a few).  Come in during our volunteer open hours on Tuesday & Thursday from 9:30am – 11am for immediate purchases, or drop your order at the office or email it to scrip@gogremlins.com.  Our volunteers will fill your order and let you know when it’s available for pick-up.  RaiseRight will be available at all Masses this Sunday, December 11th.  We will also be at all Sunday Masses on December 11th & 18th.  Questions? El primer semestre está RÁPIDAMENTE llegando a su fin y la temporada de inscripción para 23-24 ha comenzado. Las familias deberían haber recibido su invitación para inscribirse el viernes 17 de noviembre. El correo electrónico procedía de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón y el asunto decía “La reinscripción está abierta”. Si no ha visto esta importante comunicación, puede revisar sus archivos de correo no deseado.

Aquí hay un recordatorio rápido sobre cómo se desarrolla el proceso:

¡La ventana de solicitud de FACTS para el año escolar 2023-2024 se abrirá el lunes 21 de NOVIEMBRE! ¡Los padres han pedido que se hagan ajustes en el proceso de inscripción y se están haciendo mejoras!

Por ahora, aquí hay algunos recordatorios:

• Todas las familias podrán usar las declaraciones de impuestos de 2021 para completar la solicitud.

• La tarifa de solicitud de subvención/ayuda, las tarifas SIS y los formularios de inscripción en línea de FACTS están incluidos en la tarifa de procesamiento de inscripción para el año escolar 2023-2024.

Liderazgo de la escuela preparatoria #ICANHELP

Los funcionarios del Consejo Estudiantil y los presidentes de las clases fueron a Odessa para aprender cómo educar y empoderar a sus compañeros para promover el buen uso de la tecnología, al mismo tiempo que tienen un impacto positivo, en un esfuerzo por prevenir el acoso cibernético. Fue un día divertido para la colaboración. Los estudiantes harán un plan para compartir esta información con sus compañeros el próximo semestre. ¡Muchas gracias a la Asociación de Consejos Estudiantiles de Missouri y a la Escuela Secundaria de Odessa por organizar este evento!

El sábado por la noche, los estudiantes del coro de la escuela preparatoria se abrigaron e interpretaron una variedad de villancicos navideños para la comunidad antes de que diera  inicio el Desfile de Navidad de Sedalia. Los alumnos del coro Sagrado Corazón también dieron inicio al desfile con el canto del Himno Nacional.

19 de diciembre:  exámenes finales (1, 3, 5, y 7)  La salida de la escuela será a las 3:05 pm.

Solicitud de Almuerzos Gratis o Reducidos inglés/español

Misa de alumnos de noveno grado el 19 de noviembre

Una vez al mes, diferentes grupos de estudiantes se reúnen para asistir a una de las Misas que tenemos como feligreses en la parroquia San Vicente de Paúl. La última vez, los estudiantes de noveno grado fueron a la capilla de San Juan el sábado 19 de noviembre para asistir a la misa del sábado a las 7:30 pm. Cuando los estudiantes van en grupo, pueden servir, leer y participar activamente en la misa. Esto les ayuda, y los feligreses, entiendan y vean que la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón es un ministerio inseparable de San Vicente de Paúl. También da a los estudiantes la oportunidad de expresar su agradecimiento por el apoyo de la congregación con sus acciones. Además, los estudiantes tienen la oportunidad de ver caras diferentes, ya que algunos de ellos asisten regularmente a una Misa diferente. Esta vez, algunos estudiantes quedaron asombrados porque era la primera vez que iban a San Juan y no sabían que “era tan lejos.” Después de la Misa, estaban felices y expresaron su deseo de volver a hacer esto.

Retiro Regional de octavo Grado

El 17 de noviembre, nuestros alumnos de octavo grado tuvieron la increíble oportunidad de ser parte del retiro regional de octavo grado organizado en la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón. Los estudiantes de Boonville y Pilot Grove se unieron a nuestros estudiantes de octavo grado en el retiro de un día de duración dirigido por la banda familiar católica MJM7. MJM7 es una banda familiar católica muy conocida en el Sagrado Corazón porque han estado realizando el emocionante Concierto Escolar durante los últimos años, trayendo música, diversión, alabanza y oración juntos. Durante el Retiro Regional de octavo grado, los estudiantes jugaron y exploraron el amor de Dios y la forma en que nosotros, como hijos de Dios, estamos llamados a responder a ese amor. El día continuó con muchas actividades divertidas, oraciones, testimonios, etc. Michael Mette y sus hijos hicieron un trabajo fantástico dirigiendo este retiro con entusiasmo y alegría. El día después del retiro, uno de nuestros alumnos de octavo grado dijo que fue un “día increíblemente divertido… es muy agradable orar y divertirse al mismo tiempo. Me hace sentir el amor de Dios hacia nosotros y el hecho de que está feliz con nosotros”.

Rosario de sanación

La Escuela del Sagrado Corazón inició el Rosario mensual para apoyar y ayudar a nuestro exalumno Coen Brown en su batalla contra el cáncer. Dios, a través de la intercesión de su Santísima Madre, escuchó nuestra oración y sanó a Coen del cáncer mismo. Él todavía tiene un largo camino por recorrer, y mientras lo hace, seguimos yendo a Nuestra Santísima Madre María pidiéndole que interceda por nosotros ante su Hijo, Nuestro Señor. A medida que avanzamos, también incluimos a Mandy Belsha, Erin Rogers y Katie Pettis en nuestras oraciones para que también puedan obtener salud y asistencia para ellos y sus familias. Únase a nosotros en el rezo del Rosario de Sanación el miércoles 14 a las 3:15 pm en la Capilla del Sagrado Corazón. Actualización sobre la novena

La Novena se desarrolla como se esperaba. Muchas personas se han reunido para rezar el Rosario a nuestra Santísima Madre como una forma de prepararse para la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. La oración de nuestros feligreses va al cielo tanto en español como en inglés cuando nos unimos como uno solo. Siempre es asombroso ver cómo el amor a nuestra Madre une a las personas como hijos de un mismo padre y madre. Quedan seis días más y quería extender la invitación para que todos se unan a nosotros en el rezo del Santo Rosario a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.

Fiesta de San Nicolás

Hoy celebramos la fiesta de San Nicolás. Esta fiesta se celebra como un festival cristiano con especial atención a la reputación de San Nicolás como portador de regalos, así como a través de la asistencia a los servicios religiosos. En los países europeos de Alemania y Polonia, los niños se han vestido tradicionalmente como obispos y piden limosna para los pobres. En Polonia y Ucrania, los niños esperan a que venga San Nicolás y pongan un regalo debajo de sus almohadas, con la condición de que los niños se porten bien durante el año. En los Países Bajos y Bélgica, los niños sacan una herradura llena de heno y una zanahoria para el caballo de San Nicolás. Todas estas costumbres se han integrado en algunas de las tradiciones navideñas que celebramos en Estados Unidos. Papá Noel es, pues, un personaje basado en San Nicolás y su ministerio de servicio. Su fiesta nos invita a esperar la venida de nuestro Señor en Navidad y a mantener nuestros corazones firmes a pesar de la prisa típicamente asociada con esta festividad.

San Vicente de Paul está buscando una persona de mantenimiento de tiempo completo.

Deberes de trabajo

• Realiza reparaciones generales que no requieren de un técnico especializado.

• Limpia y ayuda con el mantenimiento de las instalaciones.

• Realiza otras tareas afines que le sean asignadas

Habilidades Requeridas:

• Habilidad para seguir instrucciones del supervisor.

• Conocimientos de carpintería en general y reparación.

• Habilidad para usar herramientas manuales/herramientas eléctricas.

• Excelentes habilidades de organización y gestión del tiempo.

Our next in house order for physical gift cards will be Tuesday, December 13th.  All orders submitted to the school office by the end of school, or through the RaiseRight app by 8pm, on the 14th will be included in the order.  Orders should be ready for pick-up before Christmas break.  Our last bulk order before Chrismtas is Tuesday, December 13th.

Acérquese durante nuestro horario de voluntariado los martes y jueves de 9:30 a. m. a 11 a. m. para compras inmediatas, o deje su pedido en la oficina o envíelo por correo electrónico a scrip@gogremlins.com. Nuestros voluntarios llenarán su pedido y le avisarán cuando esté disponible para recogerlo. RaiseRight estará disponible en todas las misas este domingo 13 de noviembre. Club de Padres Activos (APC por sus siglas en inglés) Unase a nosotros

Nuestra próxima reunión del Club de Padres Activos (APC) será el viernes 9 de diciembre a las 8:15 en el Centro Parroquial al otro lado de la calle de la escuela.
