I hope the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is turning out to be a wonderful day for everyone. It was nice to celebrate mass as a school this morning even if the setting in the gym wasn’t quite as beautiful or intimate as it is in the Sacred Heart Chapel. Still great to celebrate together!

Message From the Pastors
Advent…
We are already well into the Season of Advent – in which we both look for and celebrate the “Coming” of Christ! As a refresher, we get the word Advent from the Latin “Adventus” meaning “coming” or “arrival.” But what or who exactly is Coming!? The King – Christ the King! You will notice that last weekend, and indeed until December 17, little will be mentioned in the church’s prayers about the “nativity” of Jesus, but much about His coming!
We often speak of the “three comings” of Christ: Christ’s birth in Bethlehem (1st), Christ’s coming as King at the end of time (2nd), and Christ coming to us in the here and now, while we still journey here on earth (3rd). Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153), doctor of the church, is one of the most well-known to speak of these, three comings: “Because this [3rd] coming lies between the other two, it is like a road on which we travel from the first coming to the last. In the first, Christ was our redemption; in the last, he will appear as our life; in this middle coming, he is our rest and consolation.”

Last week, we invited you to the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the United States and then we invited you to pray the Rosary 6 pm every night this week at our Novena in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of Americas. So, let’s break it down:
Each of our chapels has a patron: St Patrick, St John the Evangelist, and while not a Saint, an aspect of Jesus, the Sacred Heart of Jesus. These three chapels make up a parish that has a patron Saint, St Vincent de Paul. All of the parishes are part of the diocese of Jefferson City who’s patroness is The Immaculate Heart of Mary. We are part of the state of Missouri whose patroness is St Rose Philippine Duchesne. And we are all part of the United States whose patroness is The Immaculate Conception. To promote harmony and solidarity, Saint Pope John Paul II said we should not think of North, Central, and South America instead, just the Americas and named Our lady of Guadalupe as patroness of the Americas. It could be said that St Joseph and Mary, Mother of God are patron and patronesses of the whole world respectively.
Check Out This Beautiful Piano Lab
We’re making beautiful music in the Barbara Lamy Cooney Piano Lab! This innovative piano lab, made possible by a grant from the Cooney Family Foundation, allows students the opportunity to practice and improve their piano skills at their own pace while still being in a group setting.
The piano lab, which debuted in September 2020, features 17 digital pianos, each equipped with speakers, bench seating, and interactive headphones. Instructions, which are integrated into the K-12 music curriculum, are led by Mr. Darrin Hartman, SHS music director. Using a modern master control unit, Mr. Hartman is able to monitor a student’s progress and communicate with the student without leaving their desk. Audio routing can also be adjusted from individual learning to group lessons. Since nearly every sound is routed through the headphones, a virtually silent classroom is created with no soundproofing required for the room.
Jim and Barbara Cooney were longtime leaders in the Sedalia community, lifelong members of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, and graduates of Sacred Heart School — Jim in 1946 and Barbara in 1954.
The piano lab is named in honor of Barbara, who passed away in 2019. It was one of Jim’s last gifts to SHS before his passing on Nov. 10, 2020. We are grateful for the many ways Jim and Barbara gifted our parish, school, and community with their kindness, talents, generosity, and faithfulness.
Senior Lucas Martin Signs to play Soccer at SFCC
Sacred Heart Senior Lucas Martin signed his National Letter of Intent to play soccer for State Fair Community College. Lucas had an incredible career, earning All-State, All-Region, All-Conference, and All-District honors as a four-year starter for the Gremlins.
In 2020, Lucas served as the captain for the Gremlin’s soccer squad, guiding them to a 13-5 record. The Gremlins went undefeated in Kaysinger Conference play and captured first place in the Kaysinger Conference Tournament. Lucas anchored a defense that recorded 10 shutouts on the season while scoring seven goals of his own.
Playground Sensory Path
Along with the upgrade to the playground last summer, we were blessed to have a sensory path added to provide additional options to our students during recess. Parent volunteer and APC President, Angela McMullin graciously volunteered her time and talents to create the sensory path that provides our students with a creative and playful way to engage in complex, multi-stage tasks that help build connections in their brains.
NHS & NJHS Inductions a Success
NHS and NJHS inductions were held on Friday December 4th at 2:15. NJHS was led by their current president Mariah Van Leer and they inducted 8 new members. NHS was led by their current president Allie Ferguson and 10 new members were inducted. The NHS/NJHS induction was followed with a small reception for those newly inducted members.
Annual Christmas Eve Dinners sponsored by NHS
The annual NHS Christmas Eve Dinner will be offered as a curbside, pick up a meal for all those in need on December 24th. Pickup will be available between 8 am-1 pm in the circle drive in front of Sacred Heart School. Directional signs will be out to help lead the way, come, and enjoy a wonderful Christmas meal complete with pie!

Espero que la Fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción sea un día maravilloso para todos. Fue agradable celebrar la misa esta mañana como escuela, incluso si el entorno del gimnasio no era tan hermoso o íntimo como en la Capilla del Sagrado Corazón. Aún así, ¡es genial celebrar juntos!

Mensaje de los Pastores
Adviento…
Ya estamos en la temporada de Adviento – ¡en la que ambos buscamos y celebramos la “Venida” de Cristo! Como un recordatorio, la palabra Adviento proviene del latín “Adventus” que significa “venida” o “llegada”. Pero ¡¿qué o quién viene exactamente?! El Rey ¡Cristo Rey! Notará que el fin de semana pasado y de hecho hasta el 17 de diciembre, se menciona poco en las oraciones de la iglesia sobre la “natividad” de Jesús pero ¡mucho sobre Su venida!
A menudo hablamos de las “tres venidas” de Cristo: el nacimiento de Cristo en Belén (1ra), la venida de Cristo como Rey al final de los tiempos (2da) y la venida de Cristo a nosotros en el aquí y ahora, mientras seguimos viajando aquí en la tierra (3ra). Bernardo de Claraval (1090-1153), doctor de la Iglesia es uno de los más conocidos para hablar de estas tres venidas: “Porque esta (3ra) venida se encuentra entre las otras dos, es como un camino en el que viajamos desde el primero hasta el último. En la primera, Cristo fue nuestra redención; en el último, aparecerá como nuestra vida; en esta venida intermedia, Él es nuestro descanso y consuelo”.

La semana pasada, lo invitamos a la Fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción. Patrona de los Estados Unidos y después lo invitamos esta semana a rezar el Rosario todas las noches a las 6:00 pm a nuestra Novena en honor a Nuestra Virgen de Guadalupe, Patrona de las Américas. Entonces, analicemos:
Cada una de nuestras capillas tiene un patrón: San Patricio, San Juan el Evangelista y si bien no es un Santo, es un aspecto de Jesús, el Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. Estas tres capillas forman una parroquia que tiene un Santo Patrón, San Vicente de Paul. Todas las parroquias son parte de la diócesis de Jefferson City cuya Patrón es El Inmaculado Corazón de María. Nosotros somos parte del Estado de Missouri cuya patrona es St Rose Philippine Duchesne. Y todos somos parte de los Estados Unidos cuya patrona es La Inmaculada Concepción. Para promover la armonía y solidaridad, el Santo Papa Juan Pablo II dijo que no deberíamos de pensar en América del Norte, Central o del Sur, en su lugar, sólo en América y nombró a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe como patrona de las Américas. Podría decirse que San José y María, Madre de Dios, son Patrón y Patrona de todo el mundo respectivamente.
Eche un vistazo a este Hermoso Laboratorio de Piano
¡Estamos haciendo música hermosa en el Laboratorio de Piano Barbara Lamy Cooney! Este innovador Laboratorio de Piano, que fue posible gracias a la Fundación de la Familia Cooney, permite a los alumnos la oportunidad de practicar e innovar sus habilidades de piano a su propio ritmo sin dejar de estar en un entorno grupal.
El Laboratorio de Piano, que debutó en septiembre de 2020, cuenta con 17 pianos digitales, cada uno equipado con bocinas, banco y auriculares interactivos. La enseñanza que está integrada en el plan de estudios de música de K a 12vo grado es liderada por el Sr. Darrin Hartman, Director de Música de SHS. Usando una moderna unidad de control principal, el Sr. Hartman puede monitorear el progreso de los estudiantes y comunicarse con ellos sin dejar su escritorio. El enrutamiento de audio también puede ajustarse de aprendizaje individual a lecciones grupales. Dado que casi todos los sonidos se pueden enrutar mediante los auriculares, se crea un salón de clases virtualmente silencioso sin necesidad de insonorización para la sala.
Durante mucho tiempo Jim y Barbara Cooney fueron líderes en la comunidad de Sedalia, miembros de toda la vida de la Parroquia de San Vicente de Paul y graduados de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón — Jim en 1946 y Barbara en 1954. El laboratorio de piano lleva el nombre de Barbara, quien falleció en el 2019. Fue uno de los últimos regalos de Jim a SHS antes de que falleciera el 10 de noviembre de 2020. Estamos muy agradecidos por las diversas formas en las que Jim y Barbara obsequiaron a nuestra parroquia, escuela y comunidad con su bondad, talentos, generosidad y fidelidad.
Lucas Martin del Grado Senior Firma con SFCC
El alumno Lucas Martin del Grado Senior firmó su Carta Nacional de Intención para jugar fútbol soccer con State Fair Community College. Lucas tuvo una carrera increíble, ganando los honores de Todos los Estatales, Todos los Regionales, Todas las Conferencias y Todos los Distritos como titular por cuatro años consecutivos para los Gremlins.
En 2020, Lucas se desempeñó como capitán del equipo de fútbol soccer de los Gremlin, guiándolos a un récord de 13-5. Los Gremlins quedaron invictos en el juego de la Conferencia Kaysinger y obtuvieron el primer lugar en el Torneo de la Conferencia Kaysenger. Lucas ancló una defensa que registró 20 juegos sin permitir anotación y anotó siete goles.
Camino Sensorial del Área de Juegos
Junto con la renovación del área de juegos el verano pasado, tuvimos la suerte de tener además un camino sensorial para brindar opciones adicionales para los alumnos durante el receso. La madre voluntaria Angela McMullin brindó amablemente su tiempo y talento para crear el camino sensorial que proporciona a los alumnos una forma creativa y divertida de participar en tareas complejas de múltiples etapas que ayudan a construir conexiones en su cerebro.
¡Las Inducciones de NHS y NJHS son un Éxito!
Las inducciones de La Sociedad Nacional de Honor (NHS por sus siglas en inglés) y la Sociedad Nacional de Honor Junior (NJHS por sus siglas en inglés) se llevaron a cabo el viernes 4 de diciembre a las 2:15 pm. HJHS fue liderada por su actual presidenta Mariah Van Leer e incorporaron 8 miembros nuevos. NHS fue dirigida por su actual presidenta Allie Ferguson y se incorporaron 10 nuevos miembros. La inducción NHS/NJHS fue seguida de una pequeña recepción para los miembros recién incorporados.
Más de NHS – – – Cena de Nochebuena
La Cena anual de Nochebuena de NHS se ofrecerá el 24 de diciembre para los necesitados como comida para recoger en la acera. La recolección estará disponible de las 8:00 am a la 1:00 pm en la unidad circular frente a la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón. Habrá señales para ayudar a marcar el camino, ¡venga y disfrute de una maravillosa comida de Navidad completa con pay!
