This Sunday we honored our third class of inductees into our Sacred Heart School Hall of Fame. More than 130 guests from all over the country joined us at the Fox Theater for the special ceremony. Thanks to our faculty choir for leading a full congregation in song at 10 am Mass. Special thanks to Mrs. Liz Van Leer, Development Director; Mike Freels and our maintenance team; our SHS Alumni Association; Mrs. Liz Kehl, Volunteer Coordinator; and all of our student volunteers for bringing this special day to life. We are proud to have these individuals as part of our third SHS Hall of Fame induction class.

New Morning Recess Educationally Sound and a BIG Hit!
For your average elementary student, being at school from 7:40 in the morning to 2:50 in the afternoon is a long day. Current research from leading education publications has shown that providing breaks during the school day can have a large impact on student performance. When you combine these breaks with physical activity, the benefit is magnified to an even greater degree.
With this research in mind, Sacred Heart has implemented a new morning recess time for our Elementary K-5 students. When combined with our existing afternoon recess time and physical education program, our students are averaging 60 minutes of structured playtime every day.
Students who average over 45 minutes of structured break time during the school day have shown to increase test scores by 1.7 percent of a standard deviation. (Christiansen 2016)
These structured play times are even more important for students who struggle with attention deficits or hyperactivity. The increase in recess time allows these students to have heightened levels of concentration while in the classroom.
This new recess policy was implemented at the beginning of this school year and our Elementary Staff has already reported an increase in concentration levels and a decrease in small classroom disruptions.

St. Vincent de Paul Parish – FIRST MASS!
Please make plans to join us for the first-ever mass of St. Vincent de Paul parish! This takes place on Sunday, September 22 at 10:30 am. Mass will be held at the Heckart Performing Arts Center on the campus of Smith-Cotton High School.
The Most Reverend Bishop W. Shawn McKnight will be here to serve as the main presider with Fr. Mark Miller and our pastors Fr. Joseph Corel and Fr. David Veit concelebrating. It will be a beautiful and joyous celebration. Please make plans to bring the children and join us.
There will be a reception at the Knight of Columbus Hall immediately following.
SHS Family Fun Day ~ Monday, Sept 30
“Wear RED and Get FED for FREE”
Join us Monday, Sept. 30, at the Sedalia Country Club for a FREE Family Day and BBQ following the SHS Golf Classic.
Back by popular demand are burgers and dogs donated by Kehde’s BBQ and out-of-world bounce houses. For those of you who joined us last year, you know how fun this is. Grab your family and friends and we’ll see you at the Country Club. Family events begin at 4 p.m.

¡Nuevo Receso Matutino Educacionalmente Sólido y un GRAN Éxito!
Para un estudiante de primaria promedio, estar en la escuela de las 7:40 de la mañana a las 2:50 de la tarde es un día largo. Investigaciones recientes de publicaciones líderes en educación han mostrado que proporcionar descansos durante el día escolar puede tener un gran impacto en el desempeño del estudiante. Cuando combina los descansos con actividad física, el beneficio se magnifica en un grado aún mayor.
Con esta investigación en mente, el Sagrado Corazón ha implementando un nuevo receso matutino para nuestros estudiantes de primaria de K a 5. Cuando se combina con nuestro receso vespertino actual y el programa de educación física, nuestros estudiantes promedian 60 minutos de tiempo de juego estructurado por día.
Los estudiantes que promedian más de 45 minutos de descanso estructurado durante el día escolar han mostrado un incremento en su puntuación en exámenes en un 1.7 % de la desviación estándar (Christiansen 2016)
Estos horarios de juego estructurado son aún más importantes para los estudiantes que tienen problemas de déficit de atención o hiperactividad. El incremento del tiempo de receso permite a estos estudiantes tener elevados niveles de concentración mientras están en el aula.
Esta nueva política de receso se implementó al inicio del ciclo escolar y nuestro personal de primaria ya ha reportado un incremento en los niveles de concentración y una disminución en interrupciones pequeñas en el aula.

Parroquia de San Vicente de Paúl – ¡PRIMERA MISA!

Habrá una recepción en el Salón de los Caballeros de Colón inmediatamente después de la misa.

Acompáñenos el lunes 30 de septiembre en el Country Club de Sedalia en la diversión familiar y parrillada GRATUITA al terminar el torneo de golf.
De nueva cuenta a petición del público las hamburguesas y los hot dogs donados por Kehde’s BBQ y juegos inflables. Quienes nos acompañaron el año pasado, saben lo divertido que es esto. Traiga a su familia y amigos y nos vemos en el Country Club. El evento familiar comenzará a las 4 p.m.
