Sports Action

Soccer: The varsity soccer team opened their season with a 5-1 win over Knob Noster on Saturday at Clover Dell Soccer Park.

The Gremlins began their 2018 season with a 5-1 victory over the Knob Noster Panthers at Clover Dell Soccer Park. The first half saw the young Gremlins struggle to find an effective style to the Panther’s high pressure and physical play. It took a huge save from Senior goalkeeper Easton Webb to preserve a 0-0 tie at the half. After making the necessary adjustment at halftime, the Grems scored off a goal by Francisco Rojas in the first 3 minutes. Lucas Martin quickly followed with a goal of his own to extend the lead. Three minutes later, Rojas put on a dribbling display beating four Panther defenders to score his second goal.

The Panthers then answered off a miscommunication in the back by the young Gremlins defense and scored off a breakaway. SH newcomer Dallin Chappell answered back with a goal scored from the top of the box. The Gremlins capped off the game with a goal by returning All-State defender Jude Rollings. The goal was assisted by Sam Bello who stabilized the midfield in the second half. Converted offensive lineman, Easton Webb, shined in goal making six saves. Coach Jones was particularly pleased with the play of left-back John Ulbrich. Ulbrich’s ability to carry the ball forward from the back gives the Gremlins a new dimension to their offense.

They travel to Barstow this week to play in the Barstow Tournament. Their first action is Tuesday @ 6:15 vs Northland Christian.

Volleyball: The varsity volleyball team opens their season on Tuesday night at home vs. Fr. Tolton High School from Columbia.  JV actions begins at 6pm.

Girls Golf: The varsity girls opened their season on Friday at the Warrensburg tournament.  The girls shot a 479 on a tough Warrensburg Country Club course.
