On September 23rd, our 2nd graders received the gift of the Guardian Angel as part of the armor of God. This beautiful tradition invites us to pause and reflect: What is the role of a Guardian Angel in our lives?
In Catholic teaching, angels are spiritual beings created by God to serve Him. From the moment of our birth, God entrusts each of us to a specific Guardian Angel whose mission is to walk with us throughout life. Jesus himself reminds us of their importance: “See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I say to you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father” (Matthew 18:10).
Guardian Angels protect us from harm, guide us toward holiness, and intercede for us before God. Though unseen, they are ever-present, offering prayers and support as we strive to grow closer to Christ. The Church encourages us to show respect, pray to our Guardian Angels, and seek their intercession in our daily lives.
Not only do individuals have Guardian Angels, but communities and even nations are believed to be under the care of angels—just as St. Michael is entrusted with the protection of the Church.
As we honor this gift, let us remember to invoke our Guardian Angels each day, trusting in their constant presence and God’s loving watch over us.
