Greetings and Happy Friday!
Wrapping up February from Sacred Heart School. Believe it or not over half of the school year is already behind us. This month brought the conclusion of Catholic Schools Week and celebrated St. Valentine’s Day and the beginning of Lent. Today the following grades earned a free dress down day as they were the winners of the can food drive and rock paper scissor tournament during catholic schools week (grades K, 1, 2, 6, 7, and 10). We hope that your child had well deserved fun with their classmates during these celebrations of our school and its ministry.
I hope everyone has had the opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful weather lately. As the days are a little warmer, it is nice to get our students outside for a lesson or class activity. Field trips are starting back up. 15 of our freshman students toured the MU -Vet Center this week. Our 4th and 5th graders will be going to the Children’s Literature Festival at UCM soon. Field trips continue to be engaging enrichment opportunities for our students.
Finally, as we continue to journey through the lenten season it is a wonderful time to come together as a family for prayer and reflection. Typically we tend to “give up” something for lent. However, what if our focus turned to more time set aside for family? What is your family doing for lent?

Welcome Back to SHS Alumni Ms. Martha Angel
Please join me in welcoming Ms. Martha Angel to our team. She joined our team on February 12th full-time to support our Religion, Social Studies, and Communication departments.
Ms. Angel will be teaching our 6th grade, 8th grade, and Freshman Religion courses and 8th grade Social Studies. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Angel will join our office staff.
Ms. Angel joined Sacred Heart School in 6th grade and graduated in 2020. She is a life-long member of St. Vincent de Paul parish. Her commitment to faith, work ethic, and overall quality of character that she demonstrated as a student at SHS earned her high accolades, including the prestigious Living the Spirit Award. She earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from SFCC. She will graduate from UCM in May with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and plans to pursue a master’s degree in educational leadership and criminal justice. In addition to her studies, Ms. Angel worked as a business administrator for Allen Industries and lent support to our school as a substitute teacher. Ms. Angel is active in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement and travels the state with her family performing at various retreats. Ms. Angel also has served in a leadership role with our St. Vincent de Paul Confirmation classes.
For those of us who knew Ms. Angel as a student, we can speak to her professionalism, compassion, energy, and devotion to faith and family, and it’s exciting to have such a bright and dedicated talent return to mentor the next generation of Sacred Heart scholars.
Ms. Angel said she has a greater realization of the importance of quality education and is excited to give back to a school and parish that is an important part of her life. When not in the classroom you’ll find her involved with various church ministries and cheering on her sister Jocelyn (6th grade) and nieces Emily (9th), Catherine (6th), and Lizbeth (3rd). Her goal this year is to seamlessly transition each class to make students feel comfortable. She is open to learning and growing under our team.

Knights of Columbus Fish Frydays – February 23, March 8, March 22
Lent is here, which means the Knights of Columbus Fish Frydays begin this week. Don’t delay to purchase your tickets and be sure to buy them from a SENIOR PARENT to support Project Graduation for the Class of 2024. Tickets are available in the school, business and parish offices. TO GO Orders are also available if you are in a hurry. Senior Parents will also have Baked Goods available for purchase for a free will donation the night of the dinners. Seriously, these dinners are so good you are not going to want to miss out! Thanks!
Protecting The Innocence of The Family Event

Save The Date – Spring Musical Fiddler on the Roof JR.

Rehearsals are underway for Sacred Heart’s Spring Musical Fiddler on the Roof JR. Make plans to attend on March 22 and 23 at the Hayden Liberty Center. Lent Opportunities Within the Parish
Mark Your Calendars for the 2024 Diocesan Summer Camps and Register NOW!
It’s not too early to look at your summer calendars now and start making plans for activities and trips for your children for the summer. Once again this year, the Diocese of Jefferson City is offering several opportunities for our youth to build and strengthen their faith and their relationship with God. For those not ready for overnight camps, Totus Tuus will be returning to our parish again this summer from Sunday, June 16th thru Friday, June 21st (Sunday thru Thursday for junior high and high school age youth, and Monday thru Friday for elementary age youth).

It is hard to believe but the first official practice day for HS athletics is this upcoming Monday, February 26th. I am pleased to share the spring programs and coaching staff for 2024. Annual Fund Drive – Student Appeal Kick-off Next Week!
Our SHS Foundation Annual Fund Drive is underway to support the immediate and long-term needs of Sacred Heart School. Every year we ask families and students to participate because a successful Annual Fund Drive greatly improves the amount of funds we can award toward scholarships, facility improvements, and teacher retention. Last year was our most successful student appeal thanks to your support and super sweet class incentives. (See below!)
We’ll host a student kickoff assembly next week. Help your favorite Gremlin earn sweet rewards by donating online to our Annual Fund Drive. More to come next week!

2024 Sacred Heart Hall of Fame – April 13
We are excited to celebrate the SHS Hall of Fame Class of 2024 on Saturday, April 13. The event is open to everyone! Please share with friends, family alumni, parishioners. The more the merrier!
We do charge for dinner to help us cover the meal expense ($25 adults | $12.50 Ages 10 -17; 9 and under are free.)

Stop in at the school office on Tuesdays and Thursdays during our volunteer open hours from 9:00am – 11:00am for immediate purchases, or drop your order at the school office or email it to the program coordinator. Our volunteers will fill your order on Tuesdays and Thursdays and let you know when it’s available for pick-up. RaiseRight will be at Masses on Sunday, February 25th. Saludos y feliz viernes!
Concluyendo febrero desde la escuela del Sagrado Corazón. Lo creas o no, más de la mitad del año escolar ya quedó atrás. Este mes concluyó la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas y celebración del Día de San Valentín y el comienzo de la Cuaresma. Hoy, los siguientes grados obtuvieron un día de vestimenta informal gratis ya que fueron los ganadores de la colecta de latas de comida y del torneo de piedra, papel y tijera durante la semana de las escuelas Católicas (grados K, 1, 2, 6, 7 y 10). Esperamos que su hijo se haya divertido bien merecido con sus compañeros durante estas celebraciones de nuestra escuela y su ministerio.
Espero que todos hayan tenido la oportunidad de salir al aire libre y disfrutar del hermoso clima últimamente. Como los días son un poco más cálidos, es agradable que nuestros estudiantes salgan a tomar una lección o una actividad de clase. Las excursiones están comenzando de nuevo. 15 de nuestros estudiantes del grado 9 recorrieron el MU -Vet Center esta semana. Nuestros alumnos de 4º y 5º grado acudirán próximamente al Festival de Literatura Infantil de UCM. Las excursiones continúan siendo interesantes oportunidades de enriquecimiento para nuestros estudiantes.
Finalmente, mientras continuamos nuestro viaje a través de la temporada de Cuaresma, es un momento maravilloso para reunirnos como familia para orar y reflexionar. Normalmente tendemos a “renunciar” a algo para la Cuaresma.. Sin embargo, ¿qué pasaría si nos centráramos en dedicar más tiempo a la familia? ¿Qué hace tu familia durante la Cuaresma?

Bienvenida de nuevo a SHS Alumni Sra. Martha Angel
Únase a mí para darle la bienvenida a la Sra. Martha Angel a nuestro equipo. Se unió a nuestro equipo el 12 de febrero a tiempo completo para apoyar nuestros departamentos de Religión, Estudios Sociales y Comunicación.
La Sra. Angel enseñará nuestros cursos de Religión para estudiantes de sexto y octavo grado y Estudios Sociales de octavo grado. Fuera del salón de clases, la Sra. Angel se unirá a nuestro personal de oficina.
La Sra. Angel se unió a la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón en sexto grado y se graduó en 2020. Ha sido un miembro de la parroquia de San Vicente de Paúl por mucho tiempo. Su compromiso con la fe, la ética de trabajo y la calidad general de carácter que demostró cuando era estudiante en SHS le valieron grandes elogios, incluido el prestigioso Premio Living the Spirit. Obtuvo un título de asociado en justicia penal de SFCC. Se graduará de UCM en mayo con una licenciatura en justicia penal y planea obtener una maestría en liderazgo educativo y justicia penal. Además de sus estudios, la Sra. Angel trabajó como administradora de empresas para Allen Industries y brindó apoyo a nuestra escuela como maestra sustituta. La Sra. Angel participa activamente en el movimiento de Renovación Carismática Católica y viaja por el estado con su familia participando en varios retiros. La Sra. Para aquellos de nosotros que conocimos a la Sra. Ángel cuando era estudiante, podemos hablar de su profesionalismo, compasión, energía y devoción a la fe y la familia, y es emocionante tener un talento tan brillante y dedicado regresando para guiar a la próxima generación de estudiantes del Sagrado Corazón.
La Sra. Angel dijo que es más consciente de la importancia de una educación de calidad y está emocionada de contribuir a una escuela y parroquia que es una parte importante de su vida. Cuando no esté en el salón, la encontrará involucrada en varios ministerios de la iglesia y animando a su hermana Jocelyn (sexto grado) y a sus sobrinas Emily (noveno), Catherine (sexto) y Lizbeth (tercero). Su objetivo este año es hacer una transición perfecta de cada clase para que los estudiantes se sientan cómodos. Está abierta a aprender y crecer con nuestro equipo.

Deportes de primavera
Es difícil de creer, pero el primer día de práctica oficial para atletismo de HS será el próximo lunes 26 de febrero. Me complace compartir los programas de primavera y el cuerpo técnico para 2024. Si tiene alguna pregunta, no dude en comunicarse con uno de los entrenadores de ese programa específico o conmigo directamente.

Recaudación de fondos anual: ¡Inicio de la apelación estudiantil la próxima semana!
Nuestra recaudación de fondos anual de la Fundación SHS está en marcha para apoyar las necesidades inmediatas y a largo plazo de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón. Cada año pedimos a las familias y a los estudiantes que participen porque una colecta anual de fondos exitosa mejora en gran medida la cantidad de fondos que podemos otorgar para becas, renovaciones de las instalaciones y retención de maestros. El año pasado fue nuestra convocatoria estudiantil más exitosa gracias a su apoyo y a los incentivos de clases súper dulces. (¡Vea abajo!)

Salón de la Fama del Sagrado Corazón 2024 – 13 de abril
Estamos emocionados de celebrar la Generación 2024 del Salón de la Fama de SHS el sábado 13 de abril. ¡El evento está abierto a todos! Comparta con amigos, familiares, exalumnos y feligreses. ¡Cuantos más, mejor!
Cobramos la cena para ayudarnos a cubrir los gastos de comida ($25 adultos | $12.50 de 10 a 17 años; 9 años y menores entran gratis).

Nuestro próximo pedido interno de tarjetas de regalo físicas será el lunes 26 de febrero.
