It’s a cherished time for our school community, fostering a profound experience of faith every day. The week was truly moving, and we aim to carry this spirit forward throughout the rest of the school year.
This Saturday holds a special event that all adults shouldn’t miss – our Battle of the Brains trivia night. Come dressed in Mardi Gras attire or in theme with your team, and anticipate plenty of laughter and surprises. This event holds significant importance for Sacred Heart School, being our primary night for fundraising to support the school. Mrs. Jill Bentch named 2024 SHS Teacher of the Year
At the conclusion of the Catholic School’s Week all-school Mass, the Sacred Heart School Foundation recognized Mrs. Jill Bentch as Teacher of the Year. Candidates eligible for teacher of the year must demonstrate a positive school spirit. They must be involved in school, church, and or community activities. They must achieve an overall above-average evaluation on classroom teaching and have at least six years of teaching experience at Sacred Heart School. What makes Teacher of the Year so special is that the only people who vote for Teacher of the Year are the Sacred Heart School Faculty.
Bentch has been in education for 22 years, 18 of which have been at Sacred Heart. She earned a degree in elementary education and Spanish and made the Dean’s List. She also has a master’s in curriculum & instruction.
Mrs. Bentch embraces her God-given abilities to bring out the best in her students and in her colleagues. No matter how busy life may get, she never falters on her creativity, willingness to learn and adapt, commitment to student success, and dedication to her faith and family.
“When we had virtual learning during COVID, Mrs. Bentch would schedule after-hour zoom calls with a student when they needed help with a lesson,” said Mrs. Nikki Howell, SHS President. “Other times, she intentionally scheduled classroom show-and-tell days to keep students connected. The patience she has to organize kids whether it be in person or through a virtual classroom is quite a gift. She proves that you don’t have to have a big voice to have a big presence.”

2024 “I Dare You” Award
Riley Bradley and Laysa Lopez were selected as the Class of 2024 recipients of the American Youth Foundation “I Dare You” National Leadership Award.
Nominated by school administration, the award recognizes two youth (a boy and a girl) currently in 11th grade, who strive to be their best and make a positive difference in their communities. Recipients distinguished themselves through actions and leadership potential.
Sacred Heart instituted this award to honor the life of Zach Parsons. Zach was a recipient of this award and a remarkable student at Sacred Heart from his 2013 freshman year until he passed from this earth in a car accident in 2016, at the age of seventeen.
Riley and Laysha were presented with the award by Jason and Debbie Parsons, Zachary’s parents, following the Catholic Schools Week all-school Mass.

CSW Blood Drive Impacts 261 Lives

Thank You APC for CSW Student and Teacher Appreciation
Once again this year APC made sure our students, daycare through 12th grade, felt the love on Student Appreciation Day during Catholic Schools Week. Not only did each student get a Papa Jake’s donut, but they also got to choose from juice or white, chocolate, or the ever popular strawberry milk. It’s a small gesture, but one our students look forward to each year.
Thank you to APC and all of their amazing parent volunteers, who knocked it out of the park again during Catholic schools week! APC was able to host a fantastic luncheon for our beloved SHS staff on 2/1. If you helped organize, brought food, ordered supplies, covered a classroom or helped decorate/set up/clean up, please know that you are truly appreciated. We couldn’t do it without everyone pitching in!
Freshman Egg-static Osmosis Lab
In this lab, Mrs. Hagebusch’s freshman Biology students set up eggs in an apparatus to test osmosis and diffusion (example pictured below). The eggs were left to sit. The students were able to see that, after a few days of waiting, the egg had taken in more water than the membrane could contain so the contents of the egg were first pushed upwards through the straw and then collapsed through the bottom of the egg. From this outcome the students had to understand what kind of solution the egg and water were in from the options hypertonic, hypotonic, or isotonic. The students correctly understood the solution was hypotonic (more water outside the cell, more salt/solvent inside the cell).

5th Grade Shares Love of SH with Pre-K
Last week Pre-K welcomed us with open arms. 5th grade had an amazing time showing excellence in service. The 5th grade helped Pre-K to think about and depict why they love going to a Catholic School. Pre-K shared answers such as “singing about Jesus, going to Church, and learning about God”. 5th grade then had the opportunity to play games with the Pre-K class, having fun is an understatement! Thank you Pre-K for sharing your hearts and minds with us!
Groundhog Day for Pre-K
Ms. Keele’s Pre-K 4 students started their groundhog study by learning about Punxsutawney Phil and making their own predictions about whether Phil would see his shadow on February 2. The students learned a lot of fun facts about groundhogs, sang a groundhog song, and went outside and looked for their own shadows.

Catholic Schools Week
When parents are asked why they bring their kids to Sacred Heart, the number one answer is always because of the faith environment their kids get to live at Sacred Heart. Parents want the very best for their kids, and what is better than growing up in a community that encourages and celebrates the fact that we are children of God and that we want to love Him with all our minds, souls, and hearts? Catholic schools make that a reality. They help parents, the first educators, form their kids in the faith they live at home while going through an academic and sports program of excellence. Catholic Schools Week was the perfect occasion for us to celebrate this. We rejoiced and celebrated our faith with fun activities and different devotions such as Singing of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, Holy Rosary, Litany of the Eucharist, and Holy Mass. We also kept our community in mind and gathered more than 1,500lbs of non-perishable food. The big “THANK YOU!” sign on the window of the first floor represented how thankful we are to all those who help Catholic education be the amazing opportunity it is.

Stop in at the school office on Tuesdays and Thursdays during our volunteer open hours from 9:00am – 11:00am for immediate purchases, or drop your order at the school office or email it to the program coordinator. Our volunteers will fill your order on Tuesdays and Thursdays and let you know when it’s available for pick-up. RaiseRight will be at Masses this Sunday, February 11th. Queridas familias del Sagrado Corazón
Apreciamos profundamente el apoyo y el amor brindado a la Escuela Sagrado Corazón durante la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas. Es un momento preciado para nuestra comunidad escolar, que fomenta cada día una profunda experiencia de fe. La semana fue realmente conmovedora y nuestro objetivo es mantener este espíritu durante el resto del año escolar.
Este sábado se lleva a cabo un evento especial que todos los adultos no deberían perderse: nuestra noche de trivia de la Batalla de los Cerebros. Ven vestido en vestidura de Mardi Gras o con un tema temático con tu equipo y puedes anticipar muchas risas y sorpresas. Este evento tiene una importancia significativa para la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón, ya que es nuestra noche principal para recaudar fondos para apoyar a la escuela. Invitamos cordialmente a todos a unirse a nosotros, mostrar su amor por Gremlin y registrarse en línea hoy.

La Sra. Jill Bentch nombrada Maestra del Año 2024 de SHS
Al concluir la Misa para toda la escuela de la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas, la Fundación de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón reconoció a la Sra. Jill Bentch como Maestra del Año. Los candidatos elegibles para maestro del año deben demostrar un espíritu escolar positivo. Deben participar en actividades de la escuela, la iglesia o la comunidad. Deben lograr una evaluación general superior al promedio en la enseñanza en el salon y tener al menos seis años de experiencia docente en la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón. Lo que hace que el Maestro del Año sea tan especial es que las únicas personas que votan por Maestro del Año son los profesores de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón.
Bentch ha estado en educación durante 22 años, 18 de los cuales han sido en Sagrado Corazon. Obtuvo una licenciatura en educación primaria y español y entró en la Lista del Decano. También tiene una maestría en currículo e instrucción.
La Sra. Bentch sostiene las habilidades que Dios le ha dado para sacar lo mejor de sus alumnos y colegas. No importa cuán ocupada pueda ser la vida, ella nunca falla en su creatividad, voluntad de aprender y adaptarse, compromiso con el éxito estudiantil y dedicación a su fe y a su familia.
“Cuando teníamos aprendizaje virtual durante COVID, la Sra. Bentch programaba llamadas de Zoom fuera del horario laboral con un estudiante cuando necesitaba ayuda con una lección”, dijo la Sra. Nikki Howell, presidenta de SHS. “Otras veces, programó intencionalmente días de exposición en el salón para mantener a los estudiantes conectados. La paciencia que tiene para organizar a los niños, ya sea en persona o a través de un salón virtual, es todo un regalo. Ella demuestra que no es necesario tener una gran voz para tener una gran presencia”.

Premio “Te Reto” 2024
Riley Bradley y Laysa López fueron seleccionados como los ganadores de la clase de 2024 del Premio Nacional de Liderazgo “I Dare You” de la American Youth Foundation.

Gracias APC por el agradecimiento a los estudiantes y maestros de CSW
Una vez más este año, APC se aseguró de que nuestros estudiantes, desde la guardería hasta el grado 12, sintieran el amor en el Día de Aprecio Estudiantil durante la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas. Cada estudiante no solo recibió una dona de Papa Jake’s, sino que también pudo elegir entre jugo o leche blanca, chocolate o la siempre popular leche de fresa. Es un gesto pequeño, pero que nuestros estudiantes esperan con ansias cada año.
¡Gracias a APC y a todos sus increíbles padres voluntarios, que volvieron a triunfar durante la semana de las escuelas Católicas! APC pudo organizar un fantástico lonche para nuestro querido personal de SHS el 1 de febrero. Si ayudó a organizar, trajo comida, pidió útiles, cubrió un salón de clases o ayudó a decorar/instalar/limpiar, sepa qué es realmente apreciado. ¡No podríamos hacerlo sin que todos colaboraran!
Laboratorio de ósmosis estática para huevos para estudiantes de primer año
En este laboratorio, los estudiantes de primer año de Biología de la Sra. Hagebusch colocaron huevos en un aparato para probar la ósmosis y la difusión (el ejemplo se muestra a continuación). Los huevos se dejaron reposar. Los estudiantes pudieron ver que, después de unos días de espera, el huevo había absorbido más agua de la que la membrana podía contener, por lo que el contenido del huevo primero fue empujado hacia arriba a través de la pajita y luego colapsó por el fondo del huevo. A partir de este resultado, los estudiantes tuvieron que comprender en qué tipo de solución se encontraban el huevo y el agua entre las opciones hipertónica, hipotónica o isotónica. Los estudiantes entendieron correctamente que la solución era hipotónica (más agua fuera de la célula, más sal/disolvente dentro de la célula).

El quinto grado comparte el amor por SH con el preescolar
La semana pasada Pre-K nos recibió con los brazos abiertos. El quinto grado se lo pasó genial mostrando excelencia en el servicio. El quinto grado ayudó a Pre-K a pensar y describir por qué les encanta ir a una escuela Católica. Pre-K compartió respuestas como “cantar sobre Jesús, ir a la iglesia y aprender sobre Dios”. Luego, el quinto grado tuvo la oportunidad de jugar con la clase de Pre-K, ¡divertirse es quedarse corto! ¡Gracias Pre-K por compartir sus corazones y mentes con nosotros!
Día de Groundhog para Pre-K
Los estudiantes de Pre-K 4 de la Sra. Keele comenzaron su estudio sobre los groundhog aprendiendo sobre Punxsutawney Phil y haciendo sus propias predicciones sobre si Phil vería su sombra el 2 de febrero. Los estudiantes aprendieron muchos datos divertidos sobre los groundhogs, cantaron una canción de groundhog y salieron y buscaron sus propias sombras.

Semana de las Escuelas Católicas
Cuando se les pregunta a los padres por qué traen a sus hijos al Sagrado Corazón, la respuesta número uno es siempre por el ambiente de fe que sus hijos viven en el Sagrado Corazón. Los padres quieren lo mejor para sus hijos, y ¿qué es mejor que crecer en una comunidad que alienta y celebra el hecho de que somos hijos de Dios y que queremos amarlo con toda nuestra mente, alma y corazón? Las escuelas Católicas hacen que eso sea una realidad. Ayudan a los padres, los primeros educadores, a formar a sus hijos en la fe que viven en casa mientras siguen un programa académico y deportivo de excelencia. La Semana de las Escuelas Católicas fue la ocasión perfecta para que celebremos esto. Nos regocijamos y celebramos nuestra fe con actividades divertidas y diferentes devociones como el Canto de la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia, el Santo Rosario, la Letanía de la Eucaristía y la Santa Misa. También tuvimos en cuenta a nuestra comunidad y reunimos más de 1,500 libras de alimentos no perecederos. alimento.
