Greetings,

I hope everyone is well and rested since it seems like a second winter break we have had. It is great to be back in school getting the momentum going without worries of weather for the time being. Next week looks great for Catholic Schools Week.  Be sure to check out the daily events here.

Kindergarten Screening Appointments Now Open – 9 Spots Left!

It’s time to look forward to the 2024-2025 school year!  Kindergarten screening dates have been set for February 8, 2024 and February 9, 2024 for all students entering Kindergarten for the 24-25 school year. Spots are filling up FAST! There are 9 open appointments, so don’t wait to get your appointment! Knight of Columbus Free Throw Contest

All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2024 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. Trophies are awarded in all 12 divisions (9-year old boys through 14-year-old boys and 9-year-old girls through 14-year-old girls). Age eligibility is determined by the age of the contestant as of January 1st, 2024. This contest is free of charge and open to all area youth. The local competition will be held on Sunday, January 28th beginning at 1:00 PM in the Sacred Heart School gym. Although this is a kickoff event to Catholic Schools Week 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic School, we would like to reiterate that all young people falling within these age categories are invited to participate regardless of the school they attend. The K of C Free Throw Championships is sponsored annually with winners progressing through local, district and state competition. Participants are required to have proof of age and parental consent. SHS Blood Drive January 31st – Still Time to Sign-up to Save Lives!

Did you know each time Sacred Heart School hosts a blood drive and meets the quota for donated units for the event the school receives money for a scholarship for graduating seniors? In the last two years alone 3 graduating seniors have received scholarships because YOU have signed up to give the gift of life in the form of a blood donation. EVERY unit of blood donated is precious, not just for those who will receive it, but also for our graduating seniors. Click HERE to reserve your spot TODAY!!

Donating blood REALLY does save lives! One of our most faithful donors, Charles Gerke, was recently blessed to be able to travel to Kansas City to actually meet with one of the recipients of his blood donation. The gentleman who received the blood (due to a diagnosis of Sickle Cell Anemia) expressed his appreciation to all of those who had come together over the past 20+ years to donate blood so that he could continue to live a full life.  (With Sickle Cell Anemia, this gentleman has to receive frequent donations.)

Isn’t it an honor to be able to say, “I helped save a life?”  We appreciate those of you who make the appointment and then commit to showing up.  It is truly an act of service toward your fellow man. This also shows our students what it means to be of service to others. By finding donors, students have a direct hand in filling a need in our community. The blood collected by Community Blood Center stays local and serves Bothwell Hospital, helping save our neighbors and fellow community members.

Protecting Your Family Event

All parents are invited to attend this double feature event sponsored by the Diocese of Jefferson City. The speaker is the author of “Theology of the Body”, the book given to our 8th graders as part of the Armor of God program. In a world where traditional Catholic values are under attack these presentations are invaluable to help us protect our families and prepare our children.

Catholic Schools Week

Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week has been the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. This year, the celebration will go from Sunday, January 28th, til Friday, February 2nd, and will encompass lots of activities under the theme: Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community. This theme will be our banner as we celebrate our students, our parents, and our larger community.

I have heard many times in my life that young people don’t want to be close to God and that “religious stuff” doesn’t make sense to them. At the end of the 2021/2022 academic year, I left my role as the Assistant Principal to take a new position as the Director of Faith Formation. This position takes the responsibilities of what was previously known as the Campus Minister and expands them to assist every member of our school community in putting faith at the center of what they do, along with leading the Religion department from an academic and sacramental perspective. Judging by what I have seen these past two years, the assertion that students are disinterested in religion is a gross misstatement. Seeing our students grow in their faith both from a theoretical/academic perspective but also from a personal and spiritual standpoint is amazing. Students do want to make sense of things; they do have the highest expectations and the most meaningful dreams. They just need the opportunity to realize that only God can satisfy our desire for infinity. Once they have discovered that with their studies, religious practices, and through our testimony of what we say and what we do, they open their hearts to God in a moving way. Sacred Heart School catalyzes this encounter with God.

The unique opportunity of the Catholic school to provide such opportunities has made them a long-lasting, critical component of the Christian education parents want for their children. Parents are the first educators of their children since they are the structural spine of the institution of family, and they constitute the primary witnesses and role models of Christian values to their children. In our Catholic school, we come alongside parents with the immense responsibility to help students share their beliefs, grow as a Christian community, learn about the immense love that God has for all mankind, and live out their faith. Having the opportunity to be a member of a community like this is reason enough to be exceedingly joyful and thankful. Consequently, we want to acknowledge and celebrate this immense privilege and the parents who love their children so much that they seek this out for them. We want God and everybody in our community to see how thankful we are. We want to bring to our hearts and souls the happiness that naturally flows from being close to Him.

Beyond our students and parents, we are blessed to have an even larger Sacred Heart family. All these shining qualities of our Catholic school, made possible by the prayers and support of this family, will be on full display during Catholic Schools Week as we create opportunities to celebrate our faith, have fun, worship our Lord Jesus, receive Him at the Holy Mass, pray for ourselves and our community, help our local community with food and a blood drive, and come together in fellowship. We act on the love of God, and the love of His people, that overflows from our souls. We also take advantage of this opportunity to express how thankful we are to all those who help us make Sacred Heart School the amazing community it is. Lots of people live out their stewardship and bring their time, talent, and treasure to support Sacred Heart, and we truly appreciate that. It does not matter if someone says that your help is big or small, we deeply appreciate what you do and encourage you to keep supporting us. You make a difference! If you want to join the amazing group of people who make Sacred Heart possible and help us in any shape or form, please reach out to our main office, and they will guide you.

One mural at the heart of our school prays as follows: Be it known to all who enter here that Christ is the reason for this school. He is the unseen but ever-present teacher in its classes. He is the model for its faculty and the inspiration of its students. Our faith is at the center of everything we do, and the main goal for our students is to develop a personal relationship with Jesus that will mark their lives forever and help guide their steps into adulthood. We do not want to take this privilege for granted but want to celebrate it and express our gratitude to God. To Him be all praise and glory forever and ever!

Food Drive during CSW

During CSW, students from all grades will compete to see who brings more non-perishable items that will then be taken to Open Door. Feeding the hungry is one of the corporal works of mercy and doing this comes naturally during CSW because it is a week where we want to celebrate and live out our faith. Make sure your family participates in this fantastic opportunity to serve our local community, knowing that Jesus said: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

World Day of Consecrated Life

“BROTHERS AND SISTERS, GO FORTH! Remember the beauty of your first call. Jesus continues to call you today with the same full love and untamed grace. GO FORTH! There is always more to do, to encounter, to be grateful for, to be astonished by. Begin and end with the joy of prayer—the marrow of consecrated life. GO FORTH! Each of us has a role to play in the Church. Witness and sow well each day, and look to tomorrow with hope. GO FORTH! Grow in love for God so that others will be attracted by the divine light in you. Welcome the new vocations the Lord sends to continue the work of consecration. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of God and the first disciple of her son, Jesus, our Lord. Amen.” — Pope Francis

In 1997, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day for women and men in consecrated life. This global celebration is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd which is also known as Candlemas Day, the day on which candles are blessed, symbolizing Christ, who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples. The celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life is transferred to the following Sunday, Feb 4, in order to highlight the gift of consecrated persons for the whole Church.

There are several ways to celebrate World Day for Consecrated Life. Invite sisters, brothers, and priests to publicly renew their vows at Mass, send cards of support to newer entrants, ask to visit a mother house to meet and pray with sisters, brothers, and priests, invite a vocation director to visit your classroom, Board meeting, or faith group to learn more about consecrated life, etc. One very essential thing we can do is to pray for them as they constitute the sometimes invisible pillars that keep our Church alive.

RaiseRight 2023 Rebates!!

With January on the downhill slide, we are almost ready to distribute rebates for the 2023 calendar year. We will finish up our reports by the end of month. Look for your rebates to be paid out sometime in the beginning of February. Similar to last year, we will send emails to each family with details on the rebates they earned throughout the year. Watch out for an email the first couple of weeks of February with this information. If you’re not sure we have a current email address for you, contact the program coordinator at scrip@gogremlins.com to make sure you receive your rebate notification.

If you haven’t started using the program yet, what are you waiting for? It’s never been easier to earn $$$ to use on tuition. It’s super easy to get set-up and start earning rebates RIGHT NOW! Visit the RaiseRight page on the school website for more information on how to get started earning rebates TODAY!!

Our next in-house order for physical gift cards will be Monday, January 29th. All orders submitted to the school office by the end of school or through the RaiseRight app by 8pm on the 29th will be included in the order. Orders should be ready for pick-up the following week.

Don’t forget we have several retailers ONLY available through the office (i.e. Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens, and VISA to name a few). Stop in at the school office on Tuesdays and Thursdays during our volunteer open hours from 9:00am – 11:00am for immediate purchases, or drop your order at the school office or email it to the program coordinator. Our volunteers will fill your order on Tuesdays and Thursdays and let you know when it’s available for pick-up. RaiseRight will be at Masses this Sunday, January 28th. Concurso de tiros libres de Caballero de Colón

Todos los niños y niñas de 9 a 14 años están invitados a participar en la competencia a nivel local para el Campeonato de Tiro Libre de Caballeros de Colón 2024. Los trofeos se otorgan en las 12 divisiones (niños de 9 a 14 años y niñas de 9 a 14 años). La elegibilidad de edad está determinada por la edad del concursante al 1 de enero de 2024. Este concurso es gratuito y está abierto a todos los jóvenes del área. La competencia local se llevará a cabo el domingo 28 de enero a partir de la 1:00 PM en el gimnasio de la escuela Sagrado Corazón. Aunque este es un evento de inicio de la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas 2024 en la Escuela Católica del Sagrado Corazón, nos gustaría reiterar que todos los jóvenes que se encuentran dentro de estas categorías de edad están invitados a participar independientemente de la escuela a la que asistan. El Campeonato de Tiros Libres de C de C se patrocina anualmente y los ganadores avanzan a través de competencias locales, distritales y estatales. Donación de sangre SHS 31 de enero: ¡aún hay tiempo para inscribirse para salvar vidas!

¿Sabía que cada vez que la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón organiza una campaña de donación de sangre y cumple con la cuota de unidades donadas para el evento, la escuela recibe dinero para una beca para los estudiantes del grado 12 que se gradúan? Sólo en los últimos dos años, 3 estudiantes del grado 12 que se graduaron han recibido becas porque TÚ te has inscrito para dar el regalo de la vida en forma de donación de sangre. CADA unidad de sangre donada es preciosa, no sólo para quienes la recibirán, sino también para nuestros estudiantes del grado 12  que se gradúan. ¡Haga clic AQUÍ para reservar su lugar HOY!

¡Donar sangre REALMENTE salva vidas! Uno de nuestros donantes más fieles, Charles Gerke, recientemente tuvo la bendición de poder viajar a Kansas City para reunirse con uno de los destinatarios de su donación de sangre. El caballero que recibió la sangre (debido a un diagnóstico de anemia falciforme) expresó su agradecimiento a todos aquellos que se habían unido durante los últimos 20 años para donar sangre para que él pudiera continuar viviendo una vida plena. (Con anemia falciforme, este caballero tiene que recibir donaciones frecuentes).

¿Que no es un honor poder decir: “Ayudé a salvar una vida”? Apreciamos a aquellos de ustedes que programan la cita y luego se comprometen a presentarse. Es verdaderamente un acto de servicio hacia el prójimo. Esto también muestra a nuestros estudiantes lo que significa estar al servicio de los demás. Al encontrar donantes, los estudiantes tienen una participación directa para satisfacer una necesidad en nuestra comunidad. La sangre recolectada por Community Blood Center permanece local y sirve al Bothwell Hospital, ayudando a salvar a nuestros vecinos y miembros de la comunidad.

Protegiendo su evento familiar

Todos los padres están invitados a asistir a este evento doble patrocinado por la Diócesis de Jefferson City. El orador es el autor de “Teología del Cuerpo”, el libro entregado a nuestros alumnos de 8º grado como parte del programa La Armadura de Dios. En un mundo donde los valores católicos tradicionales están bajo ataque, estas presentaciones son invaluables para ayudarnos a proteger a nuestras familias y preparar a nuestros hijos.

Semana de las Escuelas Católicas

Desde 1974, la Semana Nacional de las Escuelas Católicas ha sido la celebración anual de la educación Católica en los Estados Unidos. Este año, la celebración se extenderá desde el domingo 28 de enero hasta el viernes 2 de febrero y abarcará muchas actividades bajo el tema: Escuelas Católicas: Unidas en la Fe y la Comunidad. Este tema será nuestro estandarte mientras celebramos a nuestros estudiantes, nuestros padres y nuestra comunidad en general. He escuchado muchas veces en mi vida que los jóvenes no quieren estar cerca de Dios y que las “cosas religiosas” no tienen sentido para ellos. Al final del año académico 2021/2022, dejé mi puesto de subdirector para asumir un nuevo puesto como director de formación en la fe. Este puesto asume las responsabilidades de lo que antes se conocía como Ministro Universitario y las amplía para ayudar a cada miembro de nuestra comunidad escolar a poner la fe en el centro de lo que hacen, además de liderar el departamento de Religión desde una perspectiva académica y sacramental. A juzgar por lo que he visto estos últimos dos años, la afirmación de que los estudiantes no están interesados en la religión es un error grave. Ver a nuestros estudiantes crecer en su fe tanto desde una perspectiva teórica/académica como desde un punto de vista personal y espiritual es asombroso. Los estudiantes quieren darle sentido a las cosas; Tienen las expectativas más altas y los sueños más significativos. Sólo necesitan la oportunidad de darse cuenta de que sólo Dios puede satisfacer nuestro deseo infinito. Una vez que han descubierto que con sus estudios, prácticas religiosas y a través de nuestro testimonio de lo que decimos y hacemos, abren su corazón a Dios de manera conmovedora. La escuela del Sagrado Corazón cataliza este encuentro con Dios.

La oportunidad única que tiene la escuela Católica de brindar tales oportunidades la ha convertido en un componente crítico y duradero de la educación Cristiana que los padres desean para sus hijos. Los padres son los primeros educadores de sus hijos, ya que son la columna vertebral estructural de la institución familiar y constituyen los principales testigos y modelos de los valores Cristianos para sus hijos. En nuestra escuela Católica, acompañamos a los padres con la inmensa responsabilidad de ayudar a los estudiantes a compartir sus creencias, crecer como comunidad Cristiana, aprender sobre el inmenso amor que Dios tiene por toda la humanidad y vivir su fe. Tener la oportunidad de ser miembro de una comunidad como ésta es motivo suficiente para estar sumamente alegres y agradecidos. En consecuencia, queremos reconocer y celebrar este inmenso privilegio y a los padres que aman tanto a sus hijos que buscan esto para ellos. Queremos que Dios y todos en nuestra comunidad vean lo agradecidos que estamos. Queremos llevar a nuestros corazones y almas la felicidad que naturalmente fluye al estar cerca de Él.

Más allá de nuestros estudiantes y padres, tenemos la suerte de tener una familia del Sagrado Corazón aún más grande. Todas estas brillantes cualidades de nuestra escuela Católica, posibles gracias a las oraciones y el apoyo de esta familia, estarán en plena exhibición durante la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas mientras creamos oportunidades para celebrar nuestra fe, divertirnos, adorar a nuestro Señor Jesús, recibirlo en la Santa Misa, oremos por nosotros y nuestra comunidad, ayudemos a nuestra comunidad local con alimentos y una donación de sangre, y unámonos en compañerismo. Actuamos sobre el amor de Dios y el amor de su pueblo, que se desborda de nuestras almas. También aprovechamos esta oportunidad para expresar lo agradecidos que estamos con todos aquellos que nos ayudan a hacer de Sacred Heart School la increíble comunidad que es. Mucha gente vive su responsabilidad y aporta su tiempo, talento y tesoro para apoyar al Sagrado Corazón, y realmente lo apreciamos. No importa si alguien dice que tu ayuda es grande o pequeña, apreciamos profundamente lo que haces y te animamos a seguir apoyándonos. ¡Tú haces la diferencia! Si desea unirse al increíble grupo de personas que hacen posible el Sagrado Corazón y nos ayudan de cualquier forma, comuníquese con nuestra oficina principal y ellos lo guiarán.

Un mural en el corazón de nuestra escuela reza lo siguiente: Sepan todos los que entren aquí que Cristo es la razón de esta escuela. Es el maestro invisible pero siempre presente en sus clases. Él es el modelo para su cuerpo docente y la inspiración de sus estudiantes. Nuestra fe está en el centro de todo lo que hacemos, y el objetivo principal de nuestros estudiantes es desarrollar una relación personal con Jesús que marcará sus vidas para siempre y los ayudará a guiar sus pasos hacia la edad adulta. No queremos dar por sentado este privilegio, sino celebrarlo y expresar nuestra gratitud a Dios. ¡A Él sea toda la alabanza y la gloria por los siglos de los siglos!

Colecta de alimentos durante la CSW

Durante CSW, estudiantes de todos los grados competirán para ver quién trae más artículos no perecederos que luego se llevarán a Open Door. Alimentar a los hambrientos es una de las obras de misericordia corporales y hacerlo es algo natural durante la CSW porque es una semana en la que queremos celebrar y vivir nuestra fe. Asegúrate de que tu familia participe en esta fantástica oportunidad de servir a nuestra comunidad local, sabiendo que Jesús dijo: Todo lo que hiciste por uno de estos hermanos míos más pequeños, por mí lo hiciste.

Jornada Mundial de la Vida Consagrada

En 1997, el Papa San Juan Pablo II instituyó una jornada para mujeres y hombres en la vida consagrada. Esta celebración mundial está unida a la Fiesta de la Presentación del Señor el 2 de febrero, también conocida como Día de la Candelaria, día en el que se bendicen las velas que simbolizan a Cristo, quien es la luz del mundo. Así también quienes están en la vida consagrada están llamados a reflejar la luz de Jesucristo a todos los pueblos. La celebración de la Jornada Mundial de la Vida Consagrada se traslada al domingo siguiente, 4 de febrero, con el fin de resaltar el don de las personas consagradas para toda la Iglesia.

Hay varias formas de celebrar la Jornada Mundial de la Vida Consagrada. Invite a hermanas, hermanos y sacerdotes a renovar públicamente sus votos en la Misa, envíe tarjetas de apoyo a los nuevos ingresantes, pida visitar una casa madre para reunirse y orar con hermanas, hermanos y sacerdotes, invite a un director de vocaciones a visitar su salón de clases, Reunión de junta directiva, o grupo religioso para aprender más sobre la vida consagrada, etc. Una cosa muy esencial que podemos hacer es orar por ellos, ya que constituyen los pilares a veces invisibles que mantienen viva a nuestra Iglesia.

¡¡Reembolsos RaiseRight 2023!!

Con enero en descenso, estamos casi listos para distribuir reembolsos para el año calendario 2023. Terminaremos nuestros informes a finales del mes. Busque que sus reembolsos se paguen a principios de febrero. Al igual que el año pasado, enviaremos correos electrónicos a cada familia con detalles sobre los reembolsos que obtuvieron durante el año. Esté atento a un correo electrónico las primeras semanas de febrero con esta información. Si no está seguro de que tengamos una dirección de correo electrónico actual para usted, comuníquese con el coordinador del programa en scrip@gogremlins.com para asegurarse de recibir su notificación de reembolso.

Nuestro próximo pedido interno de tarjetas de regalo físicas será el lunes 29 de enero. Todos los pedidos enviados a la oficina de la escuela antes del final de clases el día 12, o a través de la aplicación RaiseRight antes de las 8 p.m. del día 15, se incluirán en el pedido. Los pedidos deberían estar listos para ser recogidos la semana siguiente.

No olvide que tenemos varias tarjetas de regalo físicas SÓLO disponibles a través de la oficina (es decir, Casey’s, Cenex, Shell, Colton’s, Kehde’s, McD, Menards, Taco Bell, Walgreens y VISA, por nombrar algunos). Visite la oficina de la escuela los martes y jueves durante nuestro horario de atención voluntaria de 9:00 a. m. a 11:00 a. m. para compras inmediatas, o deje su pedido en la oficina de la escuela o envíelo por correo electrónico al coordinador del programa. Nuestros voluntarios completarán su pedido los martes y jueves y le informarán cuando esté disponible para ser recogido. RaiseRight estará en las Misas este fin de semana el domingo 28 de enero.
