Dear Sacred Heart Families,
I trust this message finds you well. Homecoming this year turned out to be an extended snow-day celebration, filled with joy and memorable moments for our Sacred Heart community. A heartfelt thank you goes out to STUCO advisors, Mrs. Angela Hostetler and Mrs. Jamie Jennings and to our Student Council members for all of their hard work and creativity that went into Homecoming. Your support is what makes our school truly special.
Now, let’s shift our focus to an exciting upcoming event – the Kaysinger Conference Basketball Tournament. Mrs. Blackburn has all the details below, and we hope to see the stands adorned in red and white as we come together to cheer on the Gremlins. It’s bound to be a thrilling week of basketball!
Additionally, mark your calendars for an evening of fun and friendly competition at the Battle of the Brains, kicking off Sacred Heart School Foundation’s Annual Fund Drive. Gather your team, and secure your tickets online for a lively Feb. 10 pre-Lent celebration.
In other news, we’ve been diligently working to enhance the enrollment process for the upcoming academic year (24-25). Anticipate receiving your enrollment contracts in mid-February, where you’ll have the convenience of updating your information, signing your tuition contract, and setting up your payment plan, all through our improved online system. Our commitment is to continually enhance the experience for all Sacred Heart families.

Key Club Christmas Recap
Fifteen of our SHS Key Club members showed up bright and early on the first day of Christmas break to assemble and deliver over 150 stockings to members of the Armed Security Forces stationed at WAFB who are unable to make it home for Christmas. It’s one of our favorite service projects! Members took a picture in front of a Misty war plane. Here’s an article about the Misty planes which includes an interview from SHS Alumni and Hall of Famer Col. PJ White. He has quite a story and you might just see him at 9am Mass at St. Pat’s!

What’s In A Heart?
Last week, our high school students in Anatomy and Human Biology classes had the opportunity to dissect a beef heart. They were able to use the information they learned in their heart unit with a hands-on lab, getting to see up close the structure of the heart and how it works. They were also able to type their blood using a human blood typing kit. Not only did this lab benefit our high school students, but our junior high students as well. Mrs. Hagebush’s 6th and 7th grade students took the opportunity to observe the dissection of the fresh cow heart. While these hearts didn’t quite fit in the 6th grade Earth Science curriculum, we will always stop and take advantage of opportunities we are presented with! The students had varying reactions, but most agreed it was pretty cool! Thanks to senior Tommy Mertes for sharing his knowledge, and to Mrs. Blades-Reed for providing the opportunity.
Warrensburg Speech Results
On a frigid Saturday, January 20th, the Sacred Heart Speech Team traveled to Warrensburg to compete.
In Humorous Interpretation, Mariah Van Leer placed 4th.
In Duet Acting, Sophie Anderson and Anthony Sierra placed 2nd.
In Duo Interpretation, Mariah Van Leer and Sophie Anderson placed 2nd and Logan Howell and Anthony Sierra placed 5th.
In Radio Speaking, Mariah Van Leer placed 2nd.
In Storytelling Sophie Anderson placed 3rd.

5th Grade Learning With Snow
Mrs. Libby’s 5th graders have been learning about irregular plural nouns! Some of the 5th graders used their snow days to review our lessons! Beaches, women, snowmen, and leaves were some of the words they chose.
Kindergarten Screening Appointments Now Open!
It’s time to look forward to the 2024-2025 school year! Kindergarten screening dates have been set for February 8, 2024 and February 9, 2024 for all students entering Kindergarten for the 24-25 school year. Confirmation Retreat
This past Sunday, January 21st, Oddwalk Ministries led a large group of parishioners on the Confirmation Retreat. It was a beautiful time of prayer, reflection, and games, where candidates and their sponsors got to talk and discuss the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The McGremlin Gym was full of enthusiasm, music, and faith as we all followed the lead of Oddwalk Ministries in their testimonies, prayers, and activities. Visit From Warrensburg
On Thursday, January 4th, Fr Andrew Kleine from Sacred Heart Church in Warrensburg visited us. He led the Holy Mass and then visited some of the classrooms. That visit was especially meaningful to our students who live in Warrensburg and attend Sacred Heart there. Father Kleine expressed how happy he was to see his parishioners in Sacred Heart School and was thankful for this opportunity.
First Reconciliation
On December 17th, our second graders who will receive First Communion went through First Reconciliation. As they were getting ready for that, students had the opportunity to reflect on the marvelous fact that God can forgive our sins if we come to Him with repentance. As Christians, we can take that for granted, and so it is beneficial for us to take a moment and think about the fact that God loves us and is willing to receive us back into His grace. Our second graders’ enthusiasm and energy were a beautiful testimony and example. As adults, we might get a little bit tired of asking for forgiveness because, in our pride, we would want to be “more independent,” but the second graders reminded us of the joy of going back to God with joy and humility.

Stop in at the school office on Tuesdays and Thursdays during our volunteer open hours from 9:00am – 11:00am for immediate purchases, or drop your order at the school office or email it to the program coordinator. Our volunteers will fill your order on Tuesdays and Thursdays and let you know when it’s available for pick-up. RaiseRight will be at Masses this Sunday, January 28th. Queridas familias del Sagrado Corazón,
Confío en que este mensaje le encuentre bien. El Homecoming de este año resultó ser una celebración prolongada del día de la nieve, llena de alegría y momentos memorables para nuestra comunidad del Sagrado Corazón. Un sincero agradecimiento a los asesores de STUCO, la Sra. Angela Hostetler y la Sra. Jamie Jennings y a los miembros de nuestro Consejo Estudiantil por todo su arduo trabajo y creatividad en Homecoming. Su apoyo es lo que hace que nuestra escuela sea realmente especial.
Ahora, centrémonos en un próximo emocionante evento: el Torneo de baloncesto de la Conferencia Kaysinger. La Sra. ¿Qué hay en un corazón?
La semana pasada, nuestros alumnos de secundaria de las clases de Anatomía y Biología Humana tuvieron la oportunidad de diseccionar un corazón de res. Pudieron utilizar la información que aprendieron en su unidad cardíaca en un laboratorio práctico y pudieron ver de cerca la estructura del corazón y cómo funciona. También pudieron tipificar su sangre utilizando un kit de tipificación de sangre humana. Este laboratorio no solo benefició a nuestros estudiantes de secundaria, sino también a nuestros estudiantes de secundaria. Los estudiantes de sexto y séptimo grado de la Sra. Hagebush aprovecharon la oportunidad para observar la disección del corazón de vaca fresco. Si bien estos corazones no encajaban del todo en el plan de estudios de Ciencias de la Tierra de sexto grado, ¡siempre nos detendremos y aprovecharemos las oportunidades que se nos presenten! Los estudiantes tuvieron diferentes reacciones, pero la mayoría estuvo de acuerdo en que ¡fue genial! Gracias al estudiante del 12 ° grado Tommy Mertes por compartir sus conocimientos y a la Sra. Aprendizaje de quinto grado con nieve

Retiro de Confirmación
El pasado domingo 21 de enero, Oddwalk Ministries dirigió a un gran grupo de feligreses en el Retiro de Confirmación. Fue un hermoso tiempo de oración, reflexión y juegos, donde los candidatos y sus padrinos pudieron hablar y discutir los dones del Espíritu Santo. El Gimnasio McGremlin estuvo lleno de entusiasmo, música y fe mientras todos seguíamos el ejemplo de Oddwalk Ministries en sus testimonios, oraciones y actividades. Visita desde Warrensburg
El jueves 4 de enero nos visitó el Padre Andrew Kleine de la Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón en Warrensburg. Presidió la Santa Misa y luego visitó algunos de los salones. Esa visita fue especialmente significativa para nuestros estudiantes que viven en Warrensburg y asisten al Sagrado Corazón allí. El Padre Kleine expresó lo feliz que estaba de ver a sus feligreses en la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón y estaba agradecido por esta oportunidad.
Primera reconciliación
El 17 de diciembre, nuestros alumnos de segundo grado que recibirán la Primera Comunión pasaron por la Primera Reconciliación. Mientras se preparaban para eso, los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre el hecho maravilloso de que Dios puede perdonar nuestros pecados si acudimos a Él con arrepentimiento. Como Cristianos, podemos dar esto por sentado, por lo que es beneficioso para nosotros tomarnos un momento y pensar en el hecho de que Dios nos ama y está dispuesto a recibirnos nuevamente en Su gracia. El entusiasmo y la energía de nuestros alumnos de segundo grado fueron un hermoso testimonio y ejemplo. Como adultos, quizás nos cansemos un poco de pedir perdón porque, en nuestro orgullo, quisiéramos ser “más independientes”, pero los alumnos de segundo grado nos recordaron la alegría de volver a Dios con alegría y humildad.
