Dear parents and families,

Happy Friday!  It has been another great week at SH. I really enjoy the time spent throughout the week observing, listening and learning throughout all our classrooms. The following are a few highlights that stood out to me; reciting multiplication facts to peers, sharing Pearl Harbor facts, influential songs in our lives, operant conditioning experiment, and all the advent wreaths.

Speaking of advent, a major piece of living out the Catholic faith is growing in stewardship. Many people associate Advent and Christmas as a time of giving. It is important not just for the season; but for every day of our lives. Teaching our students the importance of loving others as Catholics and Christians, is something to be practiced and valued for an entire lifetime.

Stewardship was seen this week through the SH/FCCLA members. They shopped, wrapped and presented gifts for the 2 Christmas angels adopted. Overall the FCCLA members enjoyed this opportunity of giving back to the pettis county community.

NHS Christmas Eve Dinner

For over 40 years, the NHS members at Sacred Heart School have hosted a Christmas Eve dinner to help those in need throughout our community. This year, we are asking for volunteers to help package the meals for carry-out or delivery. There will be shifts from 7am-1pm on Thursday, December 21st to prep and then shifts from 6:30am-2pm on Saturday, December 23rd in the Sacred Heart School cafeteria. If you are interested in volunteering, you may scan the QR code to sign up online or contact the school office at 660-827-3800 or via email at office@gogremlins.com.

Little Gremlins Night – Dec. 15

Bring the whole family for Little Gremlins Night! Festivities center around some exciting basketball action as our boys take on the Cole Camp Bluebirds! Little Gremlins in our daycare and preschool will receive free admission to the game and free popcorn. STUCO will have a face painting station. Kids will be invited onto the court for the National Anthem and starting lineup. A chicken dinner meal and dessert will be available for purchase. There will also be a special performance by our Cheerleaders and the Little Gremlins who attended the Cheer Clinic! It’ll be a great night for family time and fun!

Advent Wreath

We are in the first week of Advent, which means we are starting out a four-week journey to prepare for the coming of our Lord Jesus. To help us get closer to God and live this Advent Season with a renewed spirit, we set up advent wreaths, which, just like everything else in our rich liturgy, have a lot of meaning. Let’s now try to break down that meaning:

• The evergreen symbolizes new life. Even in the cold of winter, the evergreen radiates the rich green of the coming of spring. Like the evergreen that grows even in winter, we should always keep our faith growing. God, increase our faith!

• The first candle, a purple one, is called the Prophet’s candle, and it represents hope and the first week of Advent. It reminds us of those holy men and women who spoke God’s word to the people during the centuries before Christ’s coming. We spread that same hope in the world, knowing that Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead.

• The second candle, a purple one, is the Bethlehem candle, and it represents love and the second week of Advent. Jesus came into this world as a baby born in the small town of Bethlehem without making noise. He was born poor to the eyes of this world but was greeted and received with great love.

• The third candle, a pink one, is the Shepherd’s candle, and it represents joy and the third week of Advent. By the example of the shepherds, we rejoice that Christ was sent to earth, and we seek Him to honor Him.

• The fourth candle, a purple one, is the Angel’s candle, and it represents peace and the fourth week of Advent. The message of the Angel was, “Fear not! We bring you great tidings of Joy!” Our hearts feel peace as we know God sent Jesus to be one of us, and we remember that Jesus will return at the end of time to gather all people to Him.

Our volunteers will fill your order on Tuesdays and Thursdays and let you know when it’s available for pick-up. During the month of December RaiseRight will be at all Sunday Masses on December 3rd, 10th, and the 17th. Come visit our table after Mass to see what cards we have in stock. Questions? Queridos padres y familias,

¡Feliz viernes! Ha sido otra gran semana en SH. Realmente disfruto el tiempo que pasó durante la semana observando, escuchando y aprendiendo en todas nuestros salones. Los siguientes son algunos aspectos destacados que me llamaron la atención; recitar las tablas de multiplicar a sus compañeros, compartir datos de Pearl Harbor, canciones influyentes en nuestras vidas, experimentos de condicionamiento operante y todas las coronas de adviento.

Hablando de adviento, una parte importante de la vivencia de la fe Católica es el crecimiento en la buena administración. Mucha gente asocia el Adviento y la Navidad como un tiempo para dar. Es importante no sólo por la temporada; sino para cada día de nuestras vidas. Enseñar a nuestros estudiantes la importancia de amar a los demás como Católicos y Cristianos es algo que debe practicarse y valorarse durante toda la vida.

La administración se vio esta semana a través de los miembros de SH/FCCLA. Compraron, envolvieron y entregaron regalos para los 2 ángeles navideños adoptados. En general, los miembros de FCCLA disfrutaron de esta oportunidad de retribuir a la comunidad del condado de Pettis.

Cena de Nochebuena de NHS

Durante más de 40 años, los miembros del NHS de la Escuela Sacred Heart han organizado una cena de Nochebuena para ayudar a los necesitados en nuestra comunidad. Este año, estamos pidiendo voluntarios para ayudar a empaquetar las comidas para llevar o entregar. Habrá turnos de 7 am a 1 pm el jueves 21 de diciembre para la preparación y luego turnos de 6:30 am a 2 pm el sábado 23 de diciembre en la cafetería de la escuela Sagrado Corazón. Si está interesado en ser voluntario, puede escanear el código QR para registrarse en línea o comunicarse con la oficina de la escuela al 660-827-3800 o por correo electrónico a office@gogremlins.com.

Noche de los Pequeños Gremlins – 15 de diciembre

¡Trae a toda la familia a la Noche de los Pequeños Gremlins! ¡Las festividades se centran en una emocionante acción de baloncesto mientras nuestros niños se enfrentan a los Cole Camp Bluebirds! Los pequeños Gremlins de nuestra guardería y preescolar recibirán entrada gratuita al juego y palomitas de maíz gratis. STUCO tendrá una estación de pintura de caras. Los niños serán invitados a la cancha para escuchar el Himno Nacional y la alineación titular. Se podrá comprar una cena de pollo y un postre. ¡También habrá una actuación especial de nuestras porristas y los Little Gremlins que asistieron a la Cheer Clinic! ¡Será una gran noche para pasar tiempo en familia y divertirse!

Corona de Adviento

Estamos en la primera semana de Adviento, lo que significa que estamos iniciando un viaje de cuatro semanas para prepararnos para la venida de nuestro Señor Jesús. Para ayudarnos a acercarnos más a Dios y vivir este tiempo de Adviento con un espíritu renovado, colocamos coronas de Adviento que, como todo lo demás en nuestra rica liturgia, tienen mucho significado. Intentemos ahora desglosar ese significado:

• El árbol de hoja perenne simboliza la nueva vida. Incluso en el frío del invierno, el árbol de hoja perenne irradia el rico verde de la llegada de la primavera. Como el árbol de hoja perenne que crece incluso en invierno, siempre debemos mantener nuestra fe creciendo. ¡Dios, aumenta nuestra fe!

• La primera vela, de color morado se llama vela del Profeta y representa la esperanza y la primera semana de Adviento. Nos recuerda a aquellos hombres y mujeres Santos que hablaron la palabra de Dios al pueblo durante los siglos anteriores a la venida de Cristo. Difundimos esa misma esperanza en el mundo, sabiendo que Cristo vendrá otra vez para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos.

• La segunda vela, de color morado, es la vela de Belén y representa el amor y la segunda semana de Adviento. Jesús vino a este mundo como un bebé nacido en el pequeño pueblo de Belén sin hacer ruido. Nació pobre a los ojos de este mundo pero fue saludado y recibido con gran amor.

• La tercera vela, de color rosa, es la vela del Pastor y representa la alegría y la tercera semana de Adviento. Por el ejemplo de los pastores, nos alegramos de que Cristo haya sido enviado a la tierra y lo buscamos para honrarlo.

• La cuarta vela, de color morado, es la vela del Ángel y representa la paz y la cuarta semana de Adviento. El mensaje del ángel fue: “¡No temáis! ¡Os traemos grandes noticias de alegría!” Nuestros corazones sienten paz al saber que Dios envió a Jesús para ser uno de nosotros, y recordamos que Jesús regresará al final de los tiempos para reunir a todas las personas con Él.
