We are so blessed at Sacred Heart to have many incredible stewards who help our school. A special thank you to Angela McMullin, Jen Cordia, Lacy Judd, Megan Page, Gabe Hesse, and Ben Jackson for purchasing the school a new washing machine. Another special thank you to Will Register, Superior Lawns, for donating a backflow. Sacred Heart School Open Grant and Aid for 2024-2025 – DUE JANUARY 15

Now is the time to complete your Grand and Aid for the upcoming school year. Early enrollment in 2024 enables us to allocate resources and effectively plan various paths to success for our scholars through our exceptional academic environment, faith formation programs, and extracurricular programs. We aim to have enrollment numbers before finalizing teacher contracts in March to ensure efficient staffing that meets student and family needs. This timeline assists us in proactively addressing teacher needs and recruiting the best talent. We hope this aids you in planning your household budgets.

Enrollment Reminders:

• January 15 is the deadline for all Grant & Aid applications to be eligible for tuition assistance and named scholarships for grades K-12.

Rotary Student of the Month

Congratulations to Senior Faithlynn Parks for being named the Sacred Heart Rotary Student of the Month for November. Faithlynn credits Sacred Heart for pushing her to do better for herself by helping her achieve things she was unaware she could do. She is in NHS, Varsity Cheer Co-Captain, and part of FCCLA. She is the Missouri FCCLA Region 12 Vice President of Public Relations. In July, she went to Denver to attend the National Leadership Conference with FCCLA. She plans to attend SFCC to study Diagnostic Imaging.

Practicing Design Skills

During the week of the book fair students in grades 2-5 had the opportunity to design a book fair poster.  The criteria for the poster was…..

• Use 8×11 sheet of computer paper

• Include a title

• Include favorite book character

• Use a minimum of 2-3 colors

• Fill the entire page

• Promotes book fairs and reading

• All work must be the students original work.  Poster should be created at school not home.

The winners from the contest will have their poster enlarged and used to promote the next book fair at SH.

6th Graders Go Caving

As part of our academic curriculum, our 6th-grade students went on a field trip on Friday, November 10th. We went to Jacob’s Cave in Versailles, MO. The purpose of this field trip was to learn about rocks and minerals in Missouri. We had a tour inside the cave, which is 1 mile long. The tour lasted around an hour. This was a great opportunity to see various components of geology and relate them to the lessons in our classroom. Trips such as this provide students with many opportunities for hands-on learning. After the tour, we had time for lunch and played some bonding games. The sun was out and it made our day brilliant and a little warm while spending a terrific time together

5th Graders Visit the Old Penitentiary

 

5th graders enjoyed attending their annual field trip to the Missouri State Penitentiary in early November. It was a cool sunny day. We enjoyed the history and connections we were able to make to our class novel, Al Capone Does My Shirts. In addition, we ended our day with a quick picnic at the park.

HS Choir Spreading Christmas Joy

The Sacred Heart Choir has been busy the past few days spreading Christmas cheer to our community and faith friends. Recently, the SH Choirs have performed for State Fair Community College’s Jingle on the Green as well as singing Christmas carols and the National Anthem for the Sedalia Christmas parade on Saturday evening. On Tuesday, the choir traveled to Kansas City’s Crown Center to be a part of the Festival of Choirs. On December 10th at 6:30 p.m., the SH band and choir will perform Follow the Star in the SH Parish, a tribute to the holy family.

FCS Students Making Monsters

FCS Students made felt monsters as the culminating project for the hand sewing unit. Students used their creative skills to sketch out the design. They viewed demonstrations by Mrs. Manning and videos to learn four different stitches (running, backstitch, french knot and blanket). The students had a lot of fun with this project and it was a great self esteem booster as most of them had never done anything like this before.  Many said it was a stress reducer for them learning to hand sew. The students all agreed the skills learned in this until will be transferred into life after high school. It is never too late to learn a new life skill!  Way to go FCS students!

Faculty and Staff Learning Safety Skills

  

A bleeding injury can happen anywhere. We’ve all seen it happen too often—on the news or in everyday life. Life-threatening bleeding can happen in people injured in serious accidents or disasters. Instead of being a witness, you can become an immediate responder because you know how to STOP THE BLEED.

Mrs. Kim Perez, SH parent, and her colleagues joined the faculty and staff as part of the November professional development day. Everyone learned and practiced three quick techniques to help save a life before someone bleeds out: (1) How to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound; (2) How to pack a wound to control bleeding; (3) How to correctly apply a tourniquet. These three techniques will empower us to assist in an emergency and potentially save a life.  It was a great opportunity. Thank you to Kim and colleagues for providing this opportunity at SH. We appreciate you!

Armor of God (AOG) for Sophomores

On Thursday, November 30th, the sophomores received their AOG in the form of a Driving Agreement and a small medal of Saint Christopher, the patron of travelers. With the Driving Agreement, students made an official and formal promise to their parents, in the sight of God, to assume all the responsibilities and duties related to safe driving. With Saint Christopher’s medal in a visible place in their cars, the sophomores will ask for his intercession before God to stay safe while driving. Please join me, then, praying to God through the intervention of Saint Christopher:

Dear Saint Christopher, protect me today in all my travels along the road’s way.
Give your warning sign if danger is near so that I may stop while the path is clear.
Be at my window and direct me through when the vision blurs from out of the blue.
Carry me safely to my destined place, like you carried Christ in your close embrace.

Amen.

Celebrating the Real St. Nick … St. Nicholas of Myra

Born in what is now known as Turkey during the Roman Empire, St. Nicholas was born into, and raised in, the Christian faith. From an early age he led a life of obedience to his faith, modeling his actions on the Gospel story of the rich young man. After his parents died when he was young, he used his inheritance to help those in need, the sick, and the poor. In one instance he provided dowries, in the form of gold coins, for three daughters of a poor family, making it possible for the father to secure marriages for his daughters. Later, St. Nicholas was elected Bishop of Myra and was imprisoned, along with other faithful Christians, under Roman Emperor Diocletian. Once freed he returned to Myra and served as the bishop until his death on December 6, 343 AD.

The tradition of giving gifts to children on the Feast Day of St. Nicholas lives on today as Santa Claus.

Somos muy bendecidos en el Sagrado Corazón de tener tantos buenos e increíbles  administradores que ayudan a nuestra escuela. Ahora es el momento de completar su Grand y Aid para el próximo año escolar. Estudiante Rotario del mes

Felicitaciones a la estudiante del duodécimo grado, Faithlynn Parks por ser nombrada estudiante Rotaria del mes de noviembre del Sagrado Corazón. Faithlynn le da crédito al Sagrado Corazón por impulsarla a mejorar por sí misma ayudándola a lograr cosas que no sabía que podía hacer. Ella está en NHS, Varsity Cheer Co-Captain y es parte de FCCLA. Es la vicepresidenta de Relaciones Públicas de la Región 12 de FCCLA de Missouri. En julio, fue a Denver para asistir a la Conferencia Nacional de Liderazgo con FCCLA. Ella planea asistir a SFCC para estudiar Diagnóstico por Imágenes.

Los estudiantes de sexto grado van a las cuevas

Como parte de nuestro plan de estudios académico, nuestros estudiantes de 6to grado realizaron una excursión el viernes 10 de noviembre. Fuimos a la cueva de Jacob en Versailles, MO. El propósito de esta excursión fue aprender sobre rocas y minerales en Missouri. Hicimos un recorrido por el interior de la cueva, que tiene 1 milla de largo. El recorrido duró alrededor de una hora. Esta fue una gran oportunidad para ver varios componentes de la geología y relacionarlos con las lecciones en nuestro salón de clases. Viajes como este brindan a los estudiantes muchas oportunidades de aprendizaje práctico. Después del recorrido, tuvimos tiempo para almorzar y jugamos algunos juegos. Salió el sol e hizo que nuestro día fuera brillante y un poco caliente mientras pasábamos un tiempo fantástico juntos.

Alumnos de 5to grado visitan la antigua prisión

Los estudiantes de quinto grado disfrutaron asistiendo a su excursión anual a la Prisión Estatal de Missouri a principios de noviembre. Era un día fresco y soleado. Disfrutamos la historia y las conexiones que pudimos hacer con nuestra novela de clase, Al Capone Does My Shirts. Además, terminamos nuestro día con un picnic rápido en el parque.

Coro de HS difundiendo alegría navideña

El Coro del Sagrado Corazón ha estado ocupado los últimos días difundiendo alegría navideña a nuestra comunidad y amigos de fe. Recientemente, los Coros SH se presentaron para Jingle on the Green de State Fair Community College, además de cantar villancicos y el Himno Nacional para el desfile de Navidad de Sedalia el sábado por la noche. El martes, el coro viajó al Crown Center de Kansas City para ser parte del Festival de Coros. El 10 de diciembre a las 6:30 p.m., la banda y el coro de SH presentarán Follow the Star en la Parroquia SH, un homenaje a la sagrada familia.

Estudiantes de FCS haciendo monstruos

Los estudiantes de FCS hicieron monstruos de fieltro como proyecto culminante de la unidad de costura manual. Los estudiantes utilizaron sus habilidades creativas para dibujar el diseño. Vieron demostraciones de la Sra. Manning y videos para aprender cuatro puntos diferentes (correr, pespunte, nudo francés y manta). Los estudiantes se divirtieron mucho con este proyecto y fue un gran refuerzo para su autoestima, ya que la mayoría de ellos nunca antes habían hecho algo así. Muchas dijeron que les sirvió para reducir el estrés al aprender a coser a mano. Todos los estudiantes estuvieron de acuerdo en que las habilidades aprendidas en esto se transferirán a la vida después de la High School. ¡Nunca es demasiado tarde para aprender una nueva habilidad para la vida! ¡Así se hace, estudiantes de FCS!

Profesores y personal aprendiendo habilidades de seguridad

Una lesión sangrante puede ocurrir en cualquier lugar. Todos lo hemos visto suceder con demasiada frecuencia, en las noticias o en la vida cotidiana. Las personas lesionadas en accidentes o desastres graves pueden sufrir hemorragias potencialmente mortales. En lugar de ser un testigo, puedes convertirte en un respondedor inmediato porque sabes cómo DETENER EL SANGRADO.

La Sra. Kim Pérez, madre de familia de SH, y sus colegas se unieron al personal como parte del día de desarrollo profesional de noviembre. Todos aprendieron y practicaron tres técnicas rápidas para ayudar a salvar una vida antes de que alguien se desangre: (1) Cómo usar las manos para aplicar presión sobre una herida; (2) Cómo tapar una herida para controlar el sangrado; (3) Cómo aplicar correctamente un torniquete. Estas tres técnicas nos permitirán ayudar en caso de emergencia y potencialmente salvar una vida. Fue una gran oportunidad. Gracias a Kim y sus colegas por brindar esta oportunidad en SH. ¡Te apreciamos!

Armadura de Dios (AOG) para estudiantes del 10 ° grad

            El jueves 30 de noviembre, los estudiantes del 10 °grado recibieron su AOG en forma de Acuerdo de Conducción y una pequeña medalla de San Cristóbal, patrón de los viajeros. Con el Acuerdo de Conducción, los estudiantes hicieron una promesa oficial y formal a sus padres, ante los ojos de Dios, de asumir todas las responsabilidades y deberes relacionados con una conducción segura. Con la medalla de San Cristóbal en un lugar visible de sus autos, los estudiantes del 10 °grado pedirán su intercesión ante Dios para mantenerse seguros mientras conducen. Por favor únase conmigo para orar a Dios por la intervención de San Cristóbal:

Querido San Cristóbal, protégeme hoy en todos mis viajes a lo largo del camino. Da tu señal de aviso
si el peligro está cerca para que pueda detenerme mientras el camino está libre. Estate junto a mi ventana y
dirígeme a través de ella cuando la visión se nuble de la nada. Llévame con seguridad a mi lugar de destino,
cómo llevaste a Cristo en tu estrecho abrazo.

Celebrando al verdadero San Nicolás… San Nicolás de Myra

Nacido en lo que ahora se conoce como Turquía durante el Imperio Romano, San Nicolás nació y creció en la fe Cristiana. Desde temprana edad llevó una vida de obediencia a su fe, modelando sus acciones según la historia evangélica del joven rico. Después de que sus padres murieran cuando él era joven, utilizó su herencia para ayudar a los necesitados, los enfermos y los pobres. En un caso, proporcionó dotes, en forma de monedas de oro, a tres hijas de una familia pobre, lo que permitió al padre asegurar el matrimonio de sus hijas. Más tarde, San Nicolás fue elegido obispo de Myra y fue encarcelado, junto con otros Cristianos fieles, bajo el emperador romano Diocleciano. Una vez liberado, regresó a Myra y sirvió como obispo hasta su muerte el 6 de diciembre de 343 d.C. La tradición de dar regalos a los niños en el día de San Nicolás sigue viva hoy como Papá Noel.
