Sacred Heart School
The assistant principal will serve as an assistant to the school administrator to ensure the smooth function of primary and intermediate grade tasks and activities. This leadership is fulfilled in accordance with the policies of the diocesan school office, the diocesan religious education office, and the local school board. Assistant Principal Job Duties
The assistant principal will:
1) provide support and assistance to teachers and staff particularly at the elementary level
2) serve as a liaison between pastor, principal and elementary personnel
3) assist in coordinating and implementing a scheduled plan of formal and informal supervision of elementary faculty
4) serve as a member of the Principal’s Advisory Council
5) encourage and contribute to staff development ideas
6) plan and facilitate elementary faculty meetings
7) assist in planning in-services
8) review weekly newsletters and other communications between elementary teachers and parents
9) assist elementary teachers in developing professional growth plans
10) promote professional growth of elementary faculty by assisting them in finding sources and funds to enable them to continue to acquire new skills and knowledge as educators
11) review plans for elementary field trips
12) assist in the preparation of specials class schedules for elementary and middle grades
13) coordinate special events such as Grandparents Day, etc.
14) assist in coordination of Kids Clubs and Reading Enrichment programs
15) assist in coordination of St. Jude’s math-a-thon
16) communicate information to teachers and staff especially in regard to the elementary grades
17) assist in the planning and oversight of special programs and assemblies
18) facilitate designated co-curricular academic functions such as math contests, spelling bees, geography bee, etc.
19) assist in coordination of elementary field day
20) assist in coordination of events such as science, social studies and fine arts fairs
21) assist in communication of health issues with the school nurse
22) assist in coordination of parent volunteers
23) other responsibilities as directed by pastor and/or administrator and agreed upon as reasonable by pastor, administrator and coordinator
At the present time the assistant principal will be a teaching administrator. The assistant principal will have paid personnel assigned to them daily in a secretarial or assistant’s capacity to help with paperwork, supervisions and provide other assistance as deemed necessary. The assistant principal will not be required to attend evening meetings or weekend events, unless in keeping with their duties as a teacher or in special circumstances. The assistant principal will also be excluded from supervision for extracurricular activities.
The individual should:
1) be a veteran faculty member with a valid teaching credential
2) be an active and practicing Catholic who is involved as a member of Sacred Heart or St. Patrick’s Parishes
3) possess a strong working understanding of the Catholic School and a Catholic School system
4) possess competent basic computer skills
5) demonstrate the ability to communicate to large and small groups in both verbal and written manners
6) have organizational skills to plan and carry out events in detail
7) be able to motivate, relate to, and interact with people of all ages
